Chapter 587 Two Different Things
"Check this out." Elara pulled a fake marriage certificate from her bag and handed it to Jesse.
Jesse glanced at it, not seeing anything off. "What's the deal?"
"Are you blind? Look at the seal. Is it right?" Elara gave him a playful poke. "You're the president of HorizonTech Group, and you missed this?"
"Work just needs top-notch skills," Jesse shot back.
Feelings and work were two different beasts. Some folks were smooth in relationships but a mess at work, while others killed it at work but fumbled in love. Few could nail both.
"You need skills in relationships too," Elara reminded him, getting serious. "You gotta know when I'm really mad and when I'm just faking it."
Jesse nodded. "Got it."
Elara pinched his cheek again, worried he might turn her fake anger into the real deal.
"Come meet my parents," Elara was eager to marry Jesse and start a family. "Then we'll meet yours in a few days."
Jesse stared at the seal on the certificate again and asked, "This is fake, right?"
"Obviously," Elara replied.
"But you looked pretty happy in that photo with Willie," Jesse said seriously, still cool. "You must really want to marry him."
Elara smacked him.
Jesse rubbed his head. "Why'd you hit me?"
"Don't you get it?" Elara thought Jesse was being dense. "Don't you know who I want to marry?"
A rare smile crept onto Jesse's usually stoic face, his lips curling up slightly. Elara, not used to seeing him smile, stared a bit longer.
"Me," Jesse finally said.
"Exactly," Elara explained the photo. "It was edited by someone Willie hired, not taken for real."
Jesse pressed his lips together. "Okay."
"Come home with me," Elara said, grabbing his hand.
Jesse didn't budge. "Hold on."
"What's up?" Elara asked.
"Are you really sure about being with me?" Jesse still felt a bit insecure. To him, Elara was someone special. "You don't regret it?"
"What do you think?" Elara shot back. Why hadn't she noticed Jesse's hesitation before?
"I'm gonna change clothes," Jesse said. Despite his insecurities, he always managed to focus on the little things.
Elara was puzzled. "Why change clothes?"
"This is a formal meeting with your parents," Jesse said seriously. "I need to dress the part."
"Go ahead," Elara didn't stop him.
Ten minutes later, Jesse came back in a sharp suit, looking dashing.
"Change into something else," Elara said, even though he looked great.
Jesse glanced at his outfit, puzzled. "Doesn't it look good?"
"It looks great," Elara said, lounging back. "But you're meeting my parents, not business partners. No need for a suit."
Jesse paused.
"Try one of those outfits I got you last time," Elara suggested.
From a business angle, Harry respected and admired Jesse. But now, Jesse was meeting Harry as a potential son-in-law, and matching outfits with Elara would be better. Coincidentally, her outfit today matched one of the sets she had bought for him.
Another ten minutes later, Jesse emerged in a different outfit. He hesitated, looking at Elara. "Isn't this too casual?"
"Nope," Elara was thrilled with his look.
Being handsome had its perks; everything looked good on him.
Elara walked over, holding Jesse's hand, her eyes sparkling with joy. "Let's go."
Jesse took another look and nodded.
On the way back, Jesse stopped by the mall to buy gifts for Elara's parents.
Elara told him it wasn't necessary, but Jesse insisted, picking up gifts and supplements for her parents.
Two hours later, at the Gonzalez Mansion, Ryder immediately informed Harry and Zara when he saw Elara and Jesse arrive together.
"Are you sure she came back with Jesse?" Harry was skeptical.
Ryder nodded. "Positive."
Harry looked at Zara, discussing, "Did Elara really get Jesse that quickly?"
"Are you sure it was her getting Jesse?" Zara corrected him, her eyes questioning. "Wasn't it Jesse who got her?"
Harry paused, his curious face turning serious. "Hmm."
"With Elara's personality, she's been planning to marry Jesse for a while," Zara explained, though she felt a bit reluctant.
They used to urge Elara to get married, but now that the day had come, they felt a bit hesitant.
"No way," Harry refused, "We only have one daughter; Jesse should be the one to join our family."
Zara took a sip of water, meeting his gaze. "Would you really ask him to?"
"Why not," Harry's words trailed off, Jesse's image popping into his mind. For a moment, he felt a bit intimidated.
Jesse had a strong presence and a cold demeanor.
"Dad, Mom," Elara greeted warmly as she entered, her happiness evident, "Jesse is here."
Zara immediately greeted Jesse.
Then came a series of pleasantries and conversations.
Harry and Zara looked at Elara, asking with their eyes if she had won Jesse over.
Elara replied with a look that said absolutely.
"Let me introduce you, this is Jesse, my boyfriend," Elara formally introduced, her eyes full of smiles.
Jesse greeted politely, "Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Gonzalez."
"Hello," Harry replied nervously, lightly coughing and pointing to the fruit plate, "Have some fruit."
Jesse's hands on his knees were slightly tense, and he politely said, "Thank you."
Harry responded, "No need to thank."
