Chapter 605 I'll Have Someone Drive You

"Are you up for it?" Alexander asked again.

Jesse hesitated for a second, then nodded, "Yeah, I am."

"Great, from now on, you're my godson," Alexander announced, glancing at Daphne, "And also Daphne and Lydia's brother."

Jesse felt a bit weird about it.

"Don't stress too much," Daphne noticed Jesse's expression and thought he was nervous. "Our family is pretty laid-back; we don't have strict rules or anything."

"I have a question." Jesse couldn't hold back his curiosity.

Daphne and Alexander both turned to look at him.

Jesse took a moment before speaking, "Why did you choose me to be your godson, Alexander? Evan seems like a more fitting choice."

"We're already close with the Winston Family and have a relationship with Evan, so it's not right to form another kind of bond," Alexander explained. "As for why I chose you, you should know the reason."

Jesse thought, 'What reason?'

"You've always looked out for Daphne like a brother, helping her out," Alexander said earnestly, "I want to make our relationship closer."

"But," Jesse still had some doubts.

Alexander was patient. "Say whatever's on your mind; no need to hold back with family."

Jesse looked at Alexander and Daphne. After a lot of internal struggle, he finally opened up about his past. He talked about their support and his upbringing, mentioning both what Elara had told them and the things she hadn't.

Jesse's thoughts were simple. Since Alexander and Daphne were so sincere with him, he didn't want to hide anything from them.

"That's everything," Jesse concluded, his serious expression showing on his handsome face.

"Why worry about all this? You're a good kid; it's your parents who didn't appreciate you," Alexander felt a bit heartbroken for Jesse. "If you have no objections, I'll announce our relationship within our circle tomorrow."

Jesse hesitated; he didn't want it to be announced. His personality was similar to Daphne's; he preferred that only close people knew about such decisions. But at the moment, he didn't know how to say it.

"No need to announce it," Daphne spoke up for Jesse, understanding him well. "A family meal together is enough."

"Alright," Alexander always listened to Daphne.

And so, Jesse became Alexander's godson.

Thinking about Lydia's situation, they scheduled the meal for Sunday noon and asked Jesse to bring Elara along.

After the discussion, Alexander initially wanted to keep Jesse for lunch.

Daphne stopped him. "Better not. He just started dating Elara; it's not good to keep them apart for too long."

Alexander had already forgotten about Elara hiding in the room.

"Bring Elara over for lunch and dinner tomorrow," Daphne suggested, wanting to send Jesse away so Elara could come out of the room, "And find out what Elara likes to eat."

Jesse nodded. "Okay."

With that, and after a brief farewell, Jesse left.

As soon as Jesse left, Elara cautiously emerged from the room, breathing a sigh of relief. She had been worried Jesse might stick around for lunch. Thankfully, Daphne stepped in.

"Alexander, Daphne," Elara said, her tone lively and energetic. "Thanks for today; I'm heading out now."

"Alright," Daphne replied, her red lips parting slightly. "Drive safe."

"Will do," Elara said, feeling more relaxed as she walked out.

But after a few steps, she suddenly dashed back like she was escaping.

Seeing her run towards the room she had been hiding in, Daphne and Alexander exchanged confused glances.

Before they could react, Jesse walked back in, holding two boxes. "These are toys I got for Louis and Diana. I forgot to bring them earlier; hope they like them."

"They always love what you get them," Daphne remarked. "If Diana were here, she'd be all over you for a hug."

"Where are they?" Jesse asked, curious.

"They went out to play," Daphne answered truthfully.

Jesse smiled, knowing Diana loved to be out and about, while Louis preferred staying home. He stood there for a moment, seemingly lost in thought.

His reaction made Elara, hiding in the room, very nervous, fearing he had noticed her earlier.

"What's up?" Daphne noticed his hesitation.

Jesse hesitated for a moment before asking, "Is Elara here?"

Daphne felt a bit nervous but kept her cool, asking naturally, "Why do you think so?"

"I saw her car in the parking lot earlier," Jesse said, already suspecting that Alexander's decision to make him a godson might have been Elara's idea.

"That white sports car?" Daphne asked.

Jesse nodded. "Yeah."

"Richard drove that here," Daphne lied smoothly.

Jesse didn't doubt her. In his mind, Daphne would never lie to him. "Got it."

After a few more words, Jesse left. As he drove away, he called Elara.

Seeing Jesse's call, Elara felt a bit nervous. "Jesse is calling."

"He probably wants to know where you are so he can pick you up." Daphne guessed, adding, "If he asks about the car, just say Richard's car had a problem and was towed, so you lent him yours."

"Okay," Elara agreed.

She let it ring a few times before picking up. As Daphne predicted, Jesse's first question was about her whereabouts.

"I'm still shopping with Autumn, what's up?" Elara used her friend as an excuse.

"I saw your car at Ms. Murphy's place earlier," Jesse said, driving with the speaker on. "Need me to pick you up?"

"No need, Autumn will drop me off later," Elara replied, explaining about the car, "I lent my car to Richard; his car had a problem and was towed for repairs."

"Alright," Jesse said, not doubting her at all.

If it were anyone else, he might have overthought it. But Daphne and Elara held a special place in Jesse's heart; he trusted them completely.

After a brief chat, they ended the call. Elara told Daphne and Alexander she'd see them tomorrow, then grabbed her bag to leave.

"I'll have someone drive you," Daphne offered as Elara picked up her bag.
