Chapter 732 Inspection
"I don't know." Louis wasn't very knowledgeable about these things, and besides, it was hard to guess what their parents were thinking. "But they have always loved you, so they probably won't make you sad."
Diana looked a bit worried.
She had been very confident before, thinking that their parents would definitely not stop her from being with Caspian.
Now that it had come to this critical point, she was feeling a bit nervous.
"Mom is easier to talk to," Diana said each word carefully, her beautiful eyes showing a bit of complexity. "It's Dad who's harder to deal with."
Benjamin was usually easygoing, treating them like friends.
Bu when it came to certain times, he could put on his dad persona, and Diana and Louis couldn't handle it.
"Instead of worrying about this, you might as well break up with Caspian in advance," Louis said sharply.
Diana retorted, "If you can't say anything nice, just shut up."
Louis glanced at her and said nothing.
The next morning.
Caspian came with Charles.
Benjamin and Daphne were a bit surprised to see Charles.
Daphne invited them in to sit, and they exchanged some polite but distant greetings.
At first, everyone chatted about trivial matters, sometimes about current events, sometimes about business trends, or how quickly time passed.
"Let's get to the point." Diana, sitting next to Caspian, really didn't want to listen to these meaningless conversations. "We can eat after we talk."
"Alright." Benjamin was dressed casually, exuding a relaxed yet imposing aura.
Caspian had never seen such an aura before, but he knew that Diana's father was a very impressive person.
"Your name is Caspian?"
"Yes, Mr. Reynolds."
"Yesterday on the phone, you said you wanted to talk about your marriage with Diana?" Benjamin started the conversation slowly.
It was Caspian's first time meeting the parents, and he maintained his composure. "Yes."
"I have no objection to you dating Diana." Benjamin first gave a sweetener, then raised the stakes. "But marriage is a lifelong commitment, and as parents, we have to consider it carefully."
"I understand." Caspian remained calm and polite. "You can state any requirements you have."
"What do you think about the difference in family backgrounds between you and Diana?" Benjamin's gaze fell on him, asking in a casual tone.
Diana immediately spoke up, "Dad!"
Benjamin looked over.
He didn't say anything, but it put a lot of pressure on her.
Diana immediately backed down.
"The difference is significant," Caspian said honestly and sincerely. "If it were a few days ago, I would have thought I wasn't good enough. But now, I can assure you that Diana will be happy with me."
Before coming here, he had been thinking about all sorts of things.
But after arriving, he suddenly understood a lot.
Diana had always been the brave one in this relationship. As her boyfriend, he should be even braver.
"What if we don't agree to you being together because of this?" Benjamin continued.
Diana wanted to speak again.
Louis discreetly nudged her.
Diana was confused. 'What?'
Louis signaled with his eyes. 'Don't interrupt.'
Diana was a bit worried. 'Caspian already cares about this, and now Dad is saying this. He must be thinking of running away.'
Louis thought differently. 'If he can't face this, there's no point in you being together.'
He knew why Dad was bringing this up.
If Caspian couldn't face this, then in the future, he might divorce Diana because of it.
Marriage was very different from dating. Once divorced, it was much harder to move on. Unless she could meet someone who can heal her, which was a rare thing.
"I will respect your decision," Caspian said what was on his mind, as if he had suddenly figured things out. "But I will work hard to become excellent, excellent enough for you to overlook the difference in family backgrounds."
Upon hearing this, Diana was a bit surprised. Was this really her Caspian speaking?
"We only have one daughter, and we can't bear to see her marry far away." Benjamin looked at Caspian from all angles. "Would you consider moving in with us?"
Diana was stunned. It sounded like she was an only child.
Caspian looked at Diana, and after careful consideration, he replied, "I can."
"Really?" Benjamin's tone was as usual.
"Yes." Caspian nodded, then added, "But I might only be able to stay here on weekends and holidays. I have to work in Ivrea City during the week."
"You can quit your current job and work here." Benjamin offered. "The Murphy Group, the Reynolds Group, and HorizonTech Group can all give you a position."
Caspian was taken aback. "HorizonTech Group?"
"Yes." Benjamin's voice was steady and pleasant.
"Sorry, Charles has been a mentor to me, and I will only work for the Lancelot Group for the rest of my life," Caspian said honestly, trying to fight for his and Diana's relationship. "But don't worry, I will fly here every Friday after work to be with Diana, and fly back early Monday morning."
It might be tiring, but he was willing.
Diana puffed her cheeks and called out, "Mom..."
Flying every week would be exhausting. She didn't want Caspian to suffer.
Daphne wanted to say something but thought it would be too obvious.
Seeing the servant bringing in fruit, she stood up and walked over to take it, taking the opportunity to send Diana a message: [Your dad is just testing him, he won't really make things difficult.]
The first question was to prevent Caspian from giving up on Diana for this reason in the future.
The second was to see if he had a sense of gratitude.
Everyone in the circle knew that Charles had personally mentored him, and Benjamin was no exception.
Whether he gave up Diana for his career or gave up his career for Diana, neither would be a satisfactory answer.
Caspian's current answer was just right.
Diana felt relieved after seeing the message and happily took the fruit Daphne handed her.
Benjamin saw their little interaction and a barely noticeable smile appeared on his handsome lips.
"This could lead to relationship problems." Benjamin wanted to see if Caspian would give up under pressure. "I still hope you will quit your current job and work in Gedser."
"There's no need for that." Charles understood his intentions and joined the conversation. "The Lancelot Group has a branch in Gedser. We can just move the headquarters here."
"Charles..." Caspian didn't like this idea.
Charles, with his good looks and outstanding temperament, said, "Listen to me."
After saying this, Charles gave Caspian a look.
They were close, and Caspian immediately understood what he meant, realizing it was just a test.
