Chapter 686 Is It Really Okay to Say This About Yourself?

"Don't let Caspian know about this," Charles said, rubbing his phone.

Wilder agreed, "Okay."

"Later, lend your phone to Diana for a bit," Charles said, trying every possible way to get the message to Diana indirectly. "You don't need to say anything else, just five minutes."

"Got it." Wilder instantly understood.

After leaving the room, he waited outside Diana's door.

At that moment, Diana was looking at the information in the USB drive on the computer. It contained Caspian's schedule for the next month, as well as his preferences and habits over the past few years.

After reading it, Diana thought it was a pity Charles wasn't a detective, given how detailed his knowledge was.

She was about to open the door to thank Charles when she saw Wilder standing there.

"Mr. Lancelot asked me to give you this phone." Wilder handed over his own phone. "It's mine."

Diana paused for a moment, then immediately understood and thanked Wilder.

After taking the phone, she called Charles. Honestly, she didn't understand why he was doing this. Clearly, he was just next door. Why use Wilder's phone to call him?

"Hello, is this Charles?" Diana, with her acting talent, knew from the previous conversation what Charles wanted Wilder to convey. "I'm a relative of Wilder."

Sitting in his room, Charles chuckled at this. He cleared his throat and played along. "Yes, I know."

"You asked me to call you. Is there something important you need to tell me?" Diana continued the call in front of Charles's door, with only a door separating them.

Charles, sitting inside, could hear her talking outside. "Yes."

"Go ahead."

"I can't tell Diana face-to-face about the person she likes," Charles, becoming more cautious with age, said. "Because I promised Caspian I wouldn't tell her. How do I subtly let her know that Caspian knew she was coming today and didn't dare to come back for dinner with me?"

Diana laughed.

She opened the door and walked in, looking at Charles lounging on the sofa. She spoke directly to him, "Do we still need the phone call?"

"Get out," Charles said without hesitation. "Can't you see I'm busy?"

Diana played along."Alright, alright, I'm going."

"Close the door," Charles reminded her.

Diana agreed and closed the door, but her next words were uncooperative. "No need to tell her. Wouldn't it be better for you and Diana to have some peace and quiet?"

Charles glanced at the closed door. Did Diana still want to know about Caspian?

"I think Diana might not want to meet Caspian these days." Diana leaned against the railing, looking at the door. "She'd rather spend time with Charles."

"Really?" Charles couldn't hide his happiness.

"Just my opinion." Diana played along. "As for what she really thinks, you should ask her yourself."

Charles's eyes flickered, still thinking about letting Diana and Caspian meet. "She probably thinks the same as you. I'm planning to visit the company later. Should I ask her to come along?"

"No," Diana said deliberately. "She's so heartless. Why ask her?"

Charles thought, 'is it really okay for you to talk about yourself like that?'

Diana didn't waste any more time on the phone. After hanging up, she returned the phone to Wilder and thanked him before going to find Charles.

When she entered, Charles was staring at his phone. "Such a small matter, couldn't you just tell me directly? Why involve Wilder?"

"Ask Wilder's relative," Charles, understanding the act, said. "I told her."

"What's the difference between telling me on the phone and telling me in person?" Diana couldn't understand his logic. "Isn't it the same?"

Charles's deep eyes looked at her for a moment and said, "Think about it."

"On the phone, it's talking to Wilder's relative. In person, it's talking to Diana," Diana tried to guess Charles's thoughts. "So when Caspian asks, you can confidently say you didn't tell me, right?"

Charles remained silent.

But Diana clearly got a "yes" from his expression.

She couldn't help but cough.

Charles's gaze lingered on her face. "What's with that expression?"

He had gone to great lengths to help her, and she was laughing.

Diana exposed him directly. "In essence, you still told me."

"One more word, and I'll rearrange Caspian's work," Charles began to threaten, clearly not wanting her to continue mocking him. "I'll mess up his current schedule."

"No, no," Diana immediately complied. "I was wrong."

Caspian had been groomed by Charles as his successor since childhood. Neither Rex nor Rex's children had any business talent. Charles had tried to train them but failed, ultimately choosing Caspian.

Now, Caspian was the CEO of the Lancelot Group, while Charles enjoyed a leisurely retirement, having handed over the work to him.

"Charles," Diana said as they walked downstairs together.

Charles's talk of taking a nap was just a ruse. He glanced at her. "If you have something to say, say it."

"Were you this funny when you were young?" Diana was genuinely curious. She didn't know about Charles's youth quite well.

After all, Diana hadn't visited Ivrea City many times, and each time Charles had been very gentle and patient with her, rarely showing this side of him.

Charles's eyes darkened slightly. "No."

"Then how did you become like this?" Diana asked as they descended the stairs. Her presence had brought a lively atmosphere to the entire villa. "In my memory, you were always very gentle, just occasionally serious. Why have you never treated me like this before?"

"With fewer worries, I gradually became more relaxed," Charles replied.

Diana acknowledged with a knowing sound.

Charles took her for a couple of laps outside, as a way to digest their meal.

"I can't help you much with matters of the heart," Charles said as they walked. "If liking someone is too exhausting, then just stop it."

"I know." Diana had her own thoughts about relationships. "In a couple of days, I'll confess to Caspian. If he rejects me, I'll pursue him. If my sincere pursuit yields no results, then I'll give up."
