Chapter 290 Don't You Feel Any Sense of Crisis?

Daphne nodded. "Alright."

Brian felt a wave of relief wash over him.

Daphne's word was as good as gold.

"Everything I told you at the hospital was what he instructed me to say," Brian explained. "On the way there, he woke up once and told me that if things got worse, I should relay those words to you."

Daphne frowned a bit.

Brian went on, "He didn't want you to feel guilty or blame yourself. He felt it was his duty."

"So, he never woke up at the hospital?" Daphne quickly pieced it together.

"Not only did he not wake up, but his condition was also really bad," Brian admitted. "If I hadn't treated him, he probably wouldn't have made it."

Daphne paused, struggling to process her emotions.

"I don't know what went down between you two," Brian said, "But from what I saw, Charles really loves you."

Brian admired Charles' willpower; waking up in that state to give so many instructions was nothing short of a miracle.

"And blocking me?" Daphne pondered.

"He was afraid you'd suspect something, so he gave me his phone password," Brian revealed. "He asked me to delete you at a certain time and then tell you those words when the moment was right."

Daphne glanced at the closed door, feeling conflicted.

Brian added, "You don't have to worry about him bothering you after he recovers. He told me that if you don't want to see him, he won't disturb you again."

Brian found Charles quite contradictory. He was decisive and unyielding in business, but he was extreme in matters of the heart.

Either he acted entirely on his own will, or he completely prioritized the other person's feelings. Both extremes had been evident in his relationship with Daphne.

"Got it," Daphne responded calmly.

"So, you willingly took him away?" Brian asked cautiously.

Brian was still worried that Daphne might feel deceived by him.

The future was long, and if Daphne held a grudge against him for deceiving her now, it would be disastrous if he needed her help later.

Daphne nodded. She followed Brian to sign some papers and then took Charles away from the medical facility.

On the way back, Charles sat quietly in the passenger seat, occasionally glancing at Daphne.

His pure eyes were filled with nervousness, unease, and a bit of confusion. Just like a five-year-old child.

"Daphne," Charles called out.

Daphne glanced at him and continued driving steadily. "What's up?"

Charles fidgeted with his hands on his lap and asked cautiously, "Do you not like me?"

Daphne's heart skipped a beat. After pushing away the chaotic thoughts in her mind, she finally spoke, "Why do you ask that?"

"Just a feeling." Charles' voice was gentle, with a hint of childlike tone.

"Don't overthink it." Daphne didn't know how to answer his question. "When we get back, take a bath and have a good sleep. Tomorrow, I'll call your dad to come and take you home."

Charles didn't say anything, just hung his head, thinking, "Daphne really doesn't like me."

Daphne felt conflicted. Charles was in this state because he saved her, and it was only right for her to take care of him until he got better.

But she didn't know how to answer some of his questions. Like the one just now—if she treated him like a regular five-year-old and coddled him, what if he thought she still liked him when he recovered?

If she treated him coldly, Charles, with the mind of a five-year-old, was in a sensitive period. Kids pick up on a lot of subtle things.

Thinking about this, she drove into her neighborhood.

When Daphne got out of the car, Charles followed with his belongings, silently trailing behind her.

She took him into the elevator and up to her apartment.

Coincidentally, as they exited the elevator, they ran into Benjamin, who was about to see Kevin off.

Kevin looked at Charles and Daphne as they emerged from the elevator, his eyes wide with disbelief. "Daphne, you..."

What was going on? Why was Daphne involved with Charles again?

"I'm bringing him back to recuperate," Daphne explained simply.

Benjamin glanced at Charles, noting his position and expression, and asked, "Brian didn't cure him?"

"No," Daphne replied briefly, "Now we can only wait for him to recover slowly."

Kevin was completely confused. What recuperation and treatment?

Daphne glanced at the silent Charles and said, "I'll take him inside to rest."

"Okay." Benjamin's voice was low. "Call me if you need anything."

Daphne nodded and took Charles into her apartment.

As the door closed, Kevin looked at Benjamin with curiosity and blurted out, "Benjamin, don't you feel any sense of crisis?"

"What crisis?" Benjamin asked lazily, his long eyes showing no emotion.

"Stop pretending," Kevin said, looking like he knew everything, "We all know you like Daphne."

Benjamin remained calm, "And then?"

Kevin thought, "With Daphne bringing Charles back, shouldn't you be worried?"

"The person who just went in with Daphne is her ex-husband. They were together for two years." Kevin felt the need to emphasize. "He even saved Daphne's life before."

Benjamin's tone remained casual. "I know."

From what he had just seen, Charles' mind seemed to have some issues. His demeanor and aura were vastly different from when they first met.

Kevin wanted to give a thumbs-up.

Only Benjamin could remain calm in such a situation.

"Just be careful." Kevin didn't want Daphne to fall into Charles' trap again. "If Daphne gets back with Charles, you'll be single."

Benjamin only said, "Drive safely."

"Got it." Kevin reluctantly entered the elevator.

He had to tell the others about this. If Charles showed any signs of pursuing Daphne, they had to find ways to sabotage it!

At this moment, Daphne wasn't checking her phone and didn't know that the group chat was buzzing with discussions about her bringing Charles home.
