Chapter 212 Let Him Know What Despair Is

After stepping out of the private room, Mark followed behind and said, "Mr. Lancelot, could you please give me a heads-up next time you need to leave urgently? It makes things difficult for me."

"Is that so?" Charles exuded a chilling aura.

Mark was extremely puzzled. He thought, 'Why did I feel like Charles was a bit angry with me?'

Without dwelling on it too much, Mark assumed Charles was not in a good mood and asked, "Is there something urgent?"

Charles remained silent. He approached the door of the private room where Daphne and Jesse had gone and lifted his foot, ready to kick it open.

Mark stopped him just in time!

"Please calm down." Mark mistakenly thought Charles felt jealous about Jesse and Daphne having dinner together. "If you go in like this, Ms. Murphy will surely dislike you even more in the future."

"As if she ever liked me at all." Charles' aura was relatively subdued.

Mark thought to himself, 'It's rare that Charles had a bit of self-awareness.'

He still held him back and persuaded, "Let me knock, please wait."

Charles furrowed his brow.

Mark took a deep breath and knocked on the door with a complex heart.

After waiting for a while, he heard no response.

He knocked again, but still no response.

"Ms. Murphy, Jesse," Mark knocked once more, this time speaking up, "Can we come in for a moment?"

Charles pushed the door open forcefully.

Mark, with his ear against the door, stumbled and nearly fell.

Just as he was about to speak, he saw that the room was empty. Before he could inquire, he saw Charles's face turn even colder, as if there was a chill emanating from him.

In the next moment.

Charles turned and walked away, leaving Mark with a warning. "Tell Jesse, if he dares to do anything to Daphne, I will make him understand what despair is."

"Jesse?" Mark was even more bewildered.

Without more speaking, Charles headed towards the hotel front desk.

Mark was at a loss, but since Charles had spoken, there must be something going on.

After much deliberation, he took out his phone and called Jesse.

Regardless of the situation, Mark felt that this matter should be clarified, although it was likely a misunderstanding, and Jesse probably wouldn't actually do anything to Daphne.

However, after a few rings, Jesse hung up the call.

Seeing Mark suddenly stop in his tracks, Charles looked back at him and asked, "Did you get through?"

"I did..." Mark was very nervous, feeling like something unpredictable was about to happen. "But he hung up."

Charles's anger was nearly at its peak.

Thinking that Daphne might be in danger, he didn't care if she would be displeased with him. He continued walking while calling Daphne.

Just like with Jesse, the call was also hung up after he dialed.

When he tried calling again, Daphne's phone was switched off.

Seeing Charles' increasingly intense aura, Mark messaged Jesse: [Why did you hang up? Charles is looking for you. Where are you?]

Jesse: [I have important matters to attend to with Ms. Murphy. Don't let him disturb us.]

Since starting work, Jesse had changed his Facebook nickname, from "Soon-to-be Employee" to "Jesse."

Mark was worried.

Mark: [Please answer the phone first.]

Jesse: [I'll call you back later.]

After Mark saw Jesse's response, his nervous heart eased slightly, and he walked over.

When the receptionist saw them approaching, she greeted them politely with excellent manners.

"Give me a room on the 23rd floor." Charles was concerned but remained composed. "Any room type will do."

"The rooms on the 23rd floor are fully booked," the receptionist replied after checking, "Would rooms on the 22nd or 24th floors be acceptable?"

Charles asked, "No rooms available?"

The receptionist replied, "That's correct, sir."

Charles's gaze darkened slightly.

Mark still hadn't figured out what was going on. "Mr. Lancelot, why are you getting a room?"

"Could you please swipe the elevator to the 23rd floor for me," Charles didn't respond to his question, his mind filled with the content of the previous phone call, "I need to find my friend upstairs."

"Could you provide your friend's name and room number?" the staff member inquired.

"Jesse, room 2309," Charles replied.

Mark felt very puzzled.

"Sorry, sir, we have no record of your friend checking in," The receptionist maintained a courteous tone. "You can call your friend to confirm, and once it's verified, I can swipe the card for you."

Clad in a suit, Charles exuded a strong presence, but due to his current mood, an icy chill seemed to emanate from him.

Now, he realized that the room was booked by someone else for Jesse.

With strict hotel management, he wouldn't be able to go up.

"Keep trying to contact Jesse," Charles instructed Mark, "I'll make a call over there."

"Alright." Mark agreed, still confused about what was happening.

Rubbing his brow, Charles dialed a number on his phone.

The call was answered shortly.

Edwin said, "Charles! Do you have a grudge against me?"

Susie, having just managed to answer Edwin's Facebook call, was interrupted by Charles's call, which annoyed her greatly!

"Call your hotel reception and ask her to let me up to the 23rd floor," Charles didn't argue with him, stating his purpose.

Edwin was a bit confused as he spoke, "Which hotel?"

Charles provided the address.

Edwin grumbled but made the call for him.

He didn't ask much over the phone, knowing Charles was serious if he made such a direct request.

Three minutes later, the receptionist answered the call.

Meanwhile, on Daphne's end.

After receiving Mark's Facebook message, Jesse stopped with Daphne in the hallway on the twenty-third floor.

The hallway had surveillance cameras, and Daphne was pretending to be unconscious to deceive those watching.

Furrowing his brow, Jesse whispered to Daphne, "Mark and the others are looking for us. What should we do?"

"No need to worry," Daphne replied softly.

Based on her past experiences, Charles probably felt uncomfortable seeing her and Jesse having dinner together, so she didn't pay much attention.

After hearing her response, Jesse didn't press further.

As for his promise to call Mark back, he planned to do so after everything was settled.

But as he led Daphne towards room 2309, they heard a sound coming from the elevator.

Although he appeared calm on the surface, he was still a bit nervous inside.

Daphne was currently feigning unconsciousness, supported by Jesse. If anyone saw them, they might mistake him for a bad person, then their plan would be disrupted.

He continued walking calmly with Daphne, but after a few steps, he heard someone call his name from behind.

"Jesse?" Mark was surprised to see him and quickly approached. "It's really you."

Jesse remained silent.

Daphne also stayed silent.
