Chapter 227 Just Don't Bother Her
In response to his questioning, Daphne simply replied, "She is my friend."
"So what if she's your friend?" Austin was not convinced at all.
"Do you think Charles and Matt are with you because of money?" Daphne retorted, "If they went bankrupt, would you stop associating with them?"
"I'm not that kind of shallow person," Austin replied.
Daphne said nothing more, just stared at him.
She had worked hard to learn various things and to earn money, all so that one day if her friends were in trouble, she could help them on her own without relying on her family.
And now she had achieved that.
Daisy was someone worth her efforts.
"Friendships without any interests involved last longer. You and Daisy come from very different backgrounds," Austin continued, "Over time, problems will arise between you two."
"The problems you worry about will never happen between Daisy and me," Daphne clarified, "You just need to divorce her and then leave her alone."
Daisy was a hardworking, dream-chasing, and warm-hearted person.
Austin was not worthy of her.
"Don't even think about the custody of the child," Daphne handed the divorce agreement back to him and said, "As for the division of property, you can handle it yourself."
If they really demanded half of the marital property, Daisy would definitely refuse to take it.
She was that naive and didn't want to get entangled with Austin over money.
"Wait," Austin called out to her as she was about to leave.
Daphne looked over calmly.
Austin clarified, "The custody of the child isn't my demand. My parents found out."
"And then?" Daphne asked coldly.
"They want the child, or they'll ruin Daisy's career," Austin replied. He didn't know how they found out, but he couldn't help Daisy with this matter.
He alone made the decision to split the marital property equally. If his parents knew, they would be furious. After all, they had always had issues with Daisy's career.
"What did Daisy ever do to you?" Daphne couldn't understand their thoughts. "Why would you treat her like this?"
"The child will stay with me, and I'll raise him well," Austin suddenly softened his tone, saying, "Daisy can visit anytime she wants, and I won't stop her."
"Damn it! Don't think about it!" Daphne cursed.
Jesse was stunned.
Austin paused as well.
Jesse cleared his throat and walked over. "Ms. Murphy, you should go join Mr. Murphy and the others. I'll handle this."
"No need to handle it," Daphne's temper flared as she said, "Let them continue to slander her. Do they really think Daisy is easy to bully?"
Daphne didn't like to abuse power. But if the Hill family dared to smear Daisy, she wouldn't mind exposing their deeds.
When that time came, it would be the Hill family losing face.
"Jesse, let's go." Daphne didn't plan to stay any longer.
Jesse responded coolly, "Alright."
Watching them leave, Austin felt a surge of frustration and slammed his fist on the table. His emotion sank into a deep low.
He didn't believe Daphne could protect Daisy.
As they left, Jesse noticed Daphne's foul mood and pulled a candy from his pocket, offering it to her. "Ms. Murphy, have a candy; it will make you feel better."
Daphne paused.
She looked at the fair, slender hand in front of her, and her expression softened a bit.
She took it directly and said, "Thank you."
"You don't need to worry about Daisy and the Hill family. I'll handle it," Jesse didn't want Daphne to be troubled. His duty was to help her solve problems.
Daphne replied, "I'm not worried, just feeling sorry for Daisy."
A girl as good as Daisy actually ended up with Austin.
Jesse's gaze lingered on Daphne. There was something else in his usually cold eyes. He said, "I also feel it's unfair."
"What?" Daphne confused.
"I feel it's unfair for you," Jesse spoke with utmost seriousness. He thought Daphne deserved the best.
Daphne was taken aback, then gave a faint smile, her heartwarming.
"Ms. Murphy." Jesse was always serious as he addressed her formally.
Daphne asked, "What is it?"
"Although I've mentioned it before, I want to advise again," Jesse said, "If you ever decide to get married, please consider it from all angles. It would be best if you let me help you investigate the person."
"Alright." Daphne agreed.
The moment she agreed, Jesse's emotions subtly shifted, but only for a moment before he returned to his usual cool demeanor.
They didn't linger any longer and headed to the place Gavin had arranged.
It was a relaxing resort.
When Daphne and Jesse arrived, only Gavin, Lydia, Alexander, Evan, and Kevin were there. Daphne was a bit surprised to see them.
"Why are you all here?" As Daphne asked, she glanced at Gavin. It seemed as if she was asking with her eyes, "Wasn't this supposed to be a team-building event? Why are Evan and Kevin here, too?"
Evan and Kevin exchanged a glance, and Evan spoke up, "Gavin asked us to come."
Daphne looked at Gavin, waiting for his explanation.
"The team-building was just a pretext. The others went somewhere else," Gavin explained. He was dressed in casual attire, looking quite dashing. "Lydia and Alexander thought you might not be in the best mood lately, so they arranged this outing to cheer you up."
Given Daphne's personality, if they had directly told her it was to cheer her up, she would have insisted she was fine.
No one went through a divorce without any emotional impact.
They hadn't mentioned it before because there wasn't a suitable opportunity. Considering that Daphne had just divorced, she might not have been interested in unwinding.
Now was the perfect time.
"Since you're here, let's have a good time today," Kevin said.
"Daphne, you really should relax," Lydia said.
"Daphne, it's rare for Lydia to show such concern for you. You shouldn't let her down."
"Are you implying that I don't usually care about her? Kevin, you must make it clear."
"How are you talking to me? I'm older than you. Please show some respect."
After a while, Kevin and Lydia were playfully bickering, laughing, and teasing each other.
Alexander and Gavin glanced at each other, deciding to give the younger ones some space. They said, "I'll go check on Lydia and the others. You all take your time chatting."
"Alright."
They all agreed.
Alexander then left.
He had initially planned to take Jesse with him, but considering Daphne's relationship with him, he decided against it.
He thought that Daphne and Jesse seemed to have a good relationship.
"Let's go. There's a flower field over there," Evan suggested. The environment is nice, and there's a pavilion to rest in."
Everyone agreed and followed along.
At first, Evan and Gavin chatted with Daphne about everyday things or told a few jokes.
Daphne's mood gradually lightened.
Eventually, they turned their attention to Jesse, who had been silent since they arrived.
