Chapter 456 What is Your Purpose in Kidnapping Me
"Yo, Mr. Sullivan, didn't you say we couldn't touch her?" Laird's guy looked all puzzled. "You also said anyone who made her cry or hurt her would get punished. So why are we grilling her now?"
If they freaked her out during the grilling, Benjamin would probably go ballistic.
"It's not a real grilling, just a little test," Laird said, knowing the boundaries. "I'm just curious."
The crew hesitated, clearly unsure.
Laird made up his mind and suddenly put on a stern face. "What’s with those looks? You think I'm scared of him?"
"You're not scared; you just lost to Benjamin in that special ops competition."
"And you lost three times in a row."
"Benjamin only signed up for three times."
"The previous champs became runners-up when facing Benjamin. You definitely ain't scared."
The two guys kept yapping, making Laird more and more ticked off.
He snorted, looking all serious. "Alright, I'll show you if I'm scared or not!"
With that, he headed to the room where Daphne was being held.
Daphne was in the middle of untying the ropes. Just as she was about to succeed, the door swung open, making her stop.
The way the ropes were tied was as tricky as Benjamin's, hard to untie.
Laird saw Daphne sitting there quietly, and his curiosity spiked. He walked over, yanked off her blindfold, and pulled up a chair to sit across from her.
His two guys naturally stood behind him.
The sudden return of light was a bit disorienting for Daphne, but she adjusted after a second.
"Spill the beans about your relationship with Benjamin and his life story, and I'll let you go," Laird said, just wanting to test her.
Daphne glanced at the three of them, finally locking eyes with Laird. "Your words are as good as trash."
"What'll it take for you to believe me?"
"Give me back my phone."
"I'm trying to be nice here. Don't push it," Laird said, emphasizing each word. "You should know where you are. Our methods aren't something a girl like you can handle."
Daphne didn't respond, her hands behind her back still working on the knots silently.
Laird thought she was just being stubborn and signaled to one of his guys. "Go get her our appetizer."
"What appetizer?" The guy looked confused.
He was scared. If it wasn't the appetizer he was thinking of, wouldn't that be asking for trouble?
Laird was fuming, not getting why they lacked this bit of understanding. "What appetizer do you think? Do we have another one here?"
The guy instantly got it but was still puzzled on the way to get it.
'Isn't this just out of curiosity? Is it necessary to bring out the appetizer? That thing is no joke.'
Despite his confusion, he obediently went to get it.
When he brought it back, Laird held the small item in his hand and waved it in front of Daphne. "Don't be fooled by its size. Just a light flick on your leg or arm, and the bones in your entire leg or arm will crack."
"And then?" Daphne stayed calm.
At that moment, she recognized the guy. He was the head honcho of some special ops group in Elbonia, a buddy of Benjamin's, and Elbonia was an ally.
Laird was puzzled. And then? He couldn't really flick it on her. Could he?
If he did, Benjamin would totally lose it.
"I don't know why you dragged me here, and I don't care about your reasons," Daphne gave them one last chance. "But if you don't let me go, things are gonna get ugly."
Laird and his two guys exchanged glances.
How could she make things ugly while tied up?
"Alright, I'll bite," Laird said, genuinely curious. "Show me how things get ugly."
Daphne had already untied the ropes.
She still couldn't figure out their game. At first, she thought they were just messing with Benjamin, but now that they had brought out the big guns, it was clear this wasn't a joke.
She didn't know if something had happened to turn allies into enemies, but no matter what, she couldn't let Benjamin come and take the risk.
Laird didn't underestimate her. He looked relaxed but was actually watching Daphne's every move. "Why aren't you doing anything yet?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Daphne's hands moved, and the ropes hit the floor.
This caught the attention of all three, even Laird was shocked.
Daphne's playing cards flew out.
The guns in the hands of the two guys were knocked away, and Laird caught the incoming King of Spades.
At that moment, Daphne scooped up the two guns on the ground, one aiming at the two guys and the other at Laird.
The two guys were stunned, and Laird was beyond surprised.
Normally, he would've been able to grab a gun at the same time as Daphne and face her in a standoff.
But today he slipped up. First, because she was Benjamin's girl, he wasn't fully on guard. Second, he was shocked she could untie the ropes he tied and had such mad skills.
Of course, the biggest thing was the playing card in his hand.
He wasn't worried about Daphne pointing a gun at him. Instead, he slowly rubbed the playing card in his hand and said, "There's only one girl I know who can use playing cards this well."
With that, Laird showed the King of Spades to Daphne.
His thin lips slowly uttered, "K."
"What's your game in kidnapping me?" Daphne was fully on guard, showing no emotion despite him guessing her identity.
This guy used to be friends with Benjamin, so it wasn't surprising he knew Benjamin had a team member called 'K'.
"Chill out," Laird's attitude shifted after knowing she was K. He wasn't as cautious or aggressive as before. "I'm friends with Benjamin, you should know that."
If she didn't know, she would've already shot him.
"Put the gun down; let's talk this out," Laird said, emphasizing each word.
Daphne didn't respond, not letting her guard down.
She knew exactly what kind of person was in front of her. As Benjamin would say, this guy looked honest and straightforward, with a tall and strong build, but was actually top-notch in every aspect.
