Chapter 282 Do You Want to Be My Girlfriend

Daphne felt a quiet sympathy for Chris.

He'd pissed off Benjamin; things were about to get ugly.

Benjamin didn't avoid Daphne. He went straight to his study, pulled up his contact list, and called a young coach.

"Hahahaha!" Chris's laughter exploded through the phone. "How do you like the ringtone I set for you?"

Benjamin put the call on speaker. "Feeling proud of yourself?"

"Of course! Treat me to a nice meal, apologize sincerely, and admit you were wrong. Then I'll fix your phone," Chris said, clearly enjoying himself. "Otherwise, your phone will be broken."

Benjamin stayed silent, letting Chris gloat. He wanted Chris to feel the full weight of his mistake.

"This virus won't go away, even if you reformat your phone," Chris continued, still gloating.

Meanwhile, Benjamin had already taken out his SIM card and was using another phone to call him.

Chris never imagined someone around Benjamin could crack it.

Benjamin asked, "Where are you now?"

"Maple Avenue, why?" Chris's tone was smug. "Want to come hit me? Too bad, I'm heading home soon; you can't catch me!"

"Alright." Benjamin hung up.

He checked the time and told Daphne, "Inject it at six o'clock, and add another line: 'Too bad, you can't catch me, hahaha.'"

"Is he the paragliding coach from today?" Daphne recognized the voice.

Benjamin nodded. "Yep."

"You said you met him just two days before I did," Daphne pointed out.

Benjamin shrugged. "You could say I didn't want to know him."

Daphne was speechless.

From their conversation, it was clear they had grown up together, sharing everything, and were very close.

"Inject the dialogue as: 'Mom, come hit me; too bad, you can't catch me, and five laughs?'" Daphne asked while modifying the program.

"Yes," Benjamin confirmed. "Make sure it uses his annoying tone."

Daphne's fingers flew over the keyboard.

In no time, she had implanted the virus into Chris's phone, set to activate at six o'clock.

After finishing, Benjamin replied in the group chat, indicating it was done.

At six that evening, Chris was sitting at his dining table at home. Just as he picked up his bowl, his phone started vibrating.

Thinking it was a call, he took it out of his pocket, only for an annoying voice to emerge from his phone. "Mom, come hit me; too bad, you can't catch me, hahahaha!"

As soon as the voice came out, the middle-aged couple at the table immediately turned their gaze to him, a chill running down his spine.

Chris felt a shiver down his back, knowing he was in trouble. "Mom, I can explain..."

Before he could finish, the phone played the message again. "Mom, come hit me; too bad you can't catch me, hahaha!"

"I'll show you if I can catch you or not." Mrs. Adams grabbed a stick and stormed over.

Chris hurriedly pressed the power button, but it had no effect!

Chris shouted, "Mom! Listen to me!"

"...you can't catch me, hahahahaha!"

'Damn it!' Chris thought.

"What is there to explain? You're old enough to have a girlfriend, but all you do is freeload at home," Mrs. Adams yelled, chasing him around. "And you dare to provoke me."

"I'm innocent!" Chris jumped around the living room.

"...hahahahaha," the voice identical to his own laughed maniacally from the phone.

Chris knew Benjamin had set him up.

To avoid making his mom even angrier, he threw the phone to the ground, smashing it into pieces. Fortunately, the voice stopped playing.

He let out a sigh of relief, thankful his phone had nothing important on it. "Mom, I..."

The stick landed on him.

Chris jumped up, looking like a clown. "It hurts!" His hair fell over his forehead, and his face scrunched up. "Go easy on me."

"Breaking things in front of me, who taught you that?" Mrs. Adams gave him another whack.

Chris knew his mom's temper well; admitting fault was the best strategy. "I was wrong!"

Mrs. Adams said, "Can I catch you?"

Chris nodded. "Yes, you can!"

Mrs. Adams said, "Pull any more stunts like this, and I'll beat you badly."

Chris said, "You are absolutely right."

With his quick admission of guilt, the matter finally passed. He quickly ate a few bites of food at the table and then went upstairs with his SIM card.

Luckily, he had spare phones; otherwise, he wouldn't even be able to curse Benjamin.

Meanwhile, Benjamin and Daphne were having dinner.

Daphne appreciated Benjamin's cooking skills. She wasn't picky, but she knew good food when she tasted it. "Benjamin."

"Yes?" Benjamin asked.

"What does your family do?" Daphne knew it was impolite to talk during meals, but she was curious.

"They run a store," Benjamin said seriously, "why?"

Daphne wasn't sure if he was telling the truth. She had heard that his family was well-off, but she wasn't certain.

She wouldn't investigate either, as it wasn't necessary.

"Nothing," Daphne said while eating. If you need to visit your parents, just let me know; there is no need to take leave."

Since retiring, Benjamin hadn't gone home.

"They told me to find a girlfriend before coming back." Benjamin started to set a trap.

Daphne fell right into it without any suspicion. "You can't go back if you don't find one?"

"Yes." Benjamin's tone was teasing. "Do you want to be my girlfriend so I can go home?"

"Ask Zoey," Daphne didn't realize this was a roundabout confession and seriously suggested, "She's lively and cute, easy to get along with. Pretending to be a couple wouldn't be a problem."

Benjamin smiled slightly, his eyes showing a hint of helplessness.

She was really dense.

He suddenly became curious about how Charles had managed to marry her. "Daphne."

"Yes?" Daphne asked.

"How did you meet Charles?" Benjamin felt he needed to understand more. "You seem to have a rather indifferent personality."

Upon hearing this, Daphne paused.

Her mind quickly recalled the scene when she first met Charles.

Even though it had been two years, the memory was still vivid.
