Chapter 23 Women Are More Important Than Friends
Charles ignored him and walked out of the ward with steady steps. Thinking about what Edwin Smith had said, his gaze turned deep. Could it be true that Daphne is Mr. Murphy's daughter?
With these thoughts in mind, his eyes fell on the branch director waiting outside the door, and he called out, "Manager Taylor. Make an appointment with CEO of the Murphy Group sometime."
Charles's voice was slow and his eyes were so deep that no one knew what he was planning.
Manager Taylor, was afraid he might have misheard: "Mr. Murphy of the Murphy Group?"
"Mm-hmm."
With a faint sound, Charles raised his foot and walked outside, and looked inside as he passed the Lydia ward.
"But the projects we work with the Murphy Group are not at the core."
Manager Taylor thought that Mr. Lancelot was going to get down to business. "Wouldn't it be a little inappropriate to ask out for dinner in this situation?"
"There's nothing wrong."
Charles withdrew his eyes and moved on, ready to explore from Mr. Murphy, "just say I enjoyed working with the Murphy Group and want to talk about deep cooperation."
Manager Taylor gave CEO a complicated look.
"What's the matter?" Charles sensed it.
"The cooperation between us and the Murphy Group is not very pleasant."
Manager Taylor recalled that, "when we talked about percentage points before, although the two families were polite on the surface, both of them had the impulse to beat each other up."
The last thing he wants to cooperate with in this life is the Murphy Group, which is so excruciating!
"…"
He did not expect this result, Gedser side of the business is arranged out: "then you find a new reason to make an appointment."
"Yes." Manager Taylor stubbornly agreed.
Daphne doesn't know that Charles is going to meet his dummy dad soon.
At nine o'clock in the evening, Lydia finally woke up.
She opened her eyes and looked at the white ward, feeling pain all over, frowning and trying to move her body, and heard a sound that she had dreamed of hearing.
"Don't move."
Daphne held her down. "You’re still on an intravenous drip."
"!"
She is in high spirits.
The first time I looked at the sound source, after seeing my sister, my eyes burst out with a thick surprise, "Sister! You're back! "
"mm-hmm."
Daphne is always gentle to her. "Today's drip will be over in more than 20 minutes. Lie down."
"Good." Lydia is very obedient.
The sparkling eyes looked at Daphne all the time, as if they couldn't see enough.
Daphne tucked her in for fear that she might catch cold.
"Daffy."
"Hmm?"
"It’s good to have you back."
"Mm-hmm."
"Daffy."
"Hmm?"
"I'm so happy to see you."
Daphne raised his hand and scraped her nose, and her eyebrows were doting: "take good care of the wound first."
"Good." Lydia happily agreed.
Twenty minutes later, when Daphne saw that the IV drip had finished, she called the nurse on duty.
After the infusion bottle was taken away, Lydia struggled to sit up — she missed Daffy so much!
Daphne followed her lead, propped up the bed, and got her a cup of hot water before sitting down herself.
Since Lydia saw Daphne, the joy on her face hadn't faded. She looked full of energy and said, "Dad told me you were planning to marry Charles but now want a divorce. Is it true?"
Daphne hesitated. Why did everyone know?
"Before I answer your question, you must tell me how you got all these injuries," Daphne's gaze fell on Lydia's head, still wrapped in bandages.
Lydia's excitement vanished from her eyes, a hint of fear present.
Daphne waited patiently, not rushing her.
"I said you can't get angry," Lydia bit her lip and set a condition before speaking.
Daphne agreed, saying, "Okay."
Lydia hesitated and struggled for a while before finally opening her mouth, speaking in a low voice, "I was assaulted, but I'm not entirely certain who ordered the attack."
"Tell me your assumptions," Daphne composed herself and calmly spoke to her.
"I suspect it was one of Sophia's relatives," Lydia whispered, biting her lip. "But I don't think Sophia is involved."
Sophia was dummy dad's new recruit.
Daphne knew.
"This morning, after I had one class, I was free and planned to go shopping with my dorm mates. However, I received a text message," Lydia explained the whole story slowly, bit by bit. "The message said that my friend was in trouble and I should come over quickly."
"What friend?" Daphne asked for more details.
Lydia stumbled over her words for a while and couldn't say who it was, her eyes avoiding Daphne's gaze.
Watching her, Daphne understood. "A boyfriend?"
"Yeah..." Lydia felt guilty as she spoke, afraid of Daffy's reprimand. "At the time, I didn't think much and just went to the address the person gave me, but it turned out to be a trap."
"Can you show me the message?"
"Sure!"
Seeing that Daphne didn't press the issue, Lydia immediately unlocked her phone and handed it over.
Daphne opened the message and memorized the sender's number.
"Daffy."
"Yeah?"
"Can you please not trouble Sophia?" Lydia asked cautiously, knowing that her sister had always had issues with this. "I can assure you that she has nothing to do with this."
In the two years since her sister had been away from home, Lydia had come to understand many things.
Sophia wasn't bad.
Daphne paused for a moment, then quickly replied, "As long as she hasn't hurt you, I won't trouble her."
"Will you go and..."
"What happened afterwards?" After reading the message, Daphne returned the phone to Lydia.
"I was attacked with a stick in an alley before reaching my destination. I vaguely saw Sophia's brother watching from outside the alley," Lydia objectively recounted, without exaggeration. "Afterwards... my boyfriend came and saved me, taking me to the hospital."
"After that, I don't know what happened."
"Oh yeah! My boyfriend came because I sent him a message when I was on my way to confirm if he really was in trouble."
"I see," Daphne understood and asked one final question, "Did you report it to the police?"
"I did," Lydia obediently nodded.
Daphne nodded and made a promise, "I will explain everything to you in seven days."
Lydia nodded softly.
After Lydia wasn't questioned about her boyfriend, her courage grew, "Sis, I already told you about my situation. Shouldn't you tell me about yours?"
Just as Daphne was about to answer, her attention was drawn to a WhatsApp message from dummy dad.
Dummy dad: [Daffy, Charles invited me for a meal. Should I go?]
