Chapter 644 Why Worry About Him

Brian just stood there looking at Richard.

Their gazes intertwined.

Richard's hands, hanging by his sides, his heart weighed down with a profound heaviness.

After a while, Brian's eyes, filled with all kinds of emotions, stared into his cold and distant ones, and he gently but directly called him, "Richard."

Richard didn't respond. He was held back his feelings with great effort. It pained him more to say such things to someone he cared about than it hurt Brian.

But Richard had been struggling all along. There was even a moment when he thought about forgiving Brian for everything in the past.

Forgiving Brian for calling him disgusting, and for telling his parents that he was only using Richard to achieve his own ends.

But Richard couldn't forgive it.

Richard knew that Brian had no choice back then, but he didn't explain it to him immediately after it happened, leaving those memories deeply ingrained.

When their relationship was solid, Richard might overlook it, but as soon as Brian made a small mistake, he would overthink.

Richard realized that his heightened sensitivity stemmed from his breakup with Brian, yet he found himself unable to move past it.

Given the current situation, it was best to end things definitively.

"Are you afraid of liking me?" Brian asked calmly.

Richard maintained his previous emotions as he looked at him, not answering.

"If my actions had truly made you feel foolish in the past, your character wouldn't allow you to harbor such emotions and attitudes." Brian tried to make up for the past with all his gentleness. "You would ignore me and treat me like a stranger, just like when we met at the hospital."

"You wouldn't have any emotional fluctuations because of me," Brian continued.

Richard felt touched a bit, but he quickly adjusted and said, "Don't always act like you know me so well."

"It's not acting, I really do know you," Brian said, looking into Richard's eyes the whole time.

Richard turned and went upstairs.

Brian followed.

"I'll give you ten minutes to leave," Richard said coldly. "Or I'll call the police."

"Do you really want me to go?" Brian asked him.

Richard's answer was devoid of emotion. "Yes."

"You can bear it." Brian pressed.

"I can."

"Fine, I'll go," Brian suddenly said. "But I'm not leaving because I no longer care about you. I just want to give you some time to calm down and think. I'll come back in a couple of days."

Richard returned to his study and closed the door behind him.

As the door closed, Brian stood outside Richard's room, speaking through the door, "If you're afraid of falling into the same situaton, I can assure you it won't happen."

"You have nine minutes left," Richard said coldly.

"I know you haven't completely let go of the past. The longer I stay by your side, the more afraid you are of falling into the same situation again," Brian could only guess Richard's thoughts, but he didn't know if he was right.

Richard's eyes grew darker.

Brian continued, "But Richard, I've given up my role as the Harris family's heir. Now I'm just Brian, a Brian who has no home if you don't give me one."

"Eight minutes," Richard forced himself to stay cold.

Brian was the most outstanding heir of the Harris family. Even though they had kicked him out for various reasons, they would eventually take him back for the family's future development.

What would await Richard then? He didn't dare to think about it and couldn't bear another heartbreak.

"No matter if you like me or not, I will always like you," Brian bravely pursued love. "I'll come back in a couple of days. If you miss me even a little, leave a crack in the window for me so I can sneak in at night."

The response to Brian was the sound of Richard closing the window.

Brian ignored it and continued, "I'm leaving now. If you miss me, remember to call me."

After waiting for a while and hearing no movement, Brian had to leave. As he left, he still said goodbye to Richard.

Richard sat in his room for a long time.

He heard the sound of Brian leaving, watched the sun set outside the window, and remained still until darkness enveloped the room.

For the next two days, Richard stayed at home and didn't go anywhere. It was the first time in his life that he couldn't even read a book.

On the third night after Brian left, Richard deliberately locked all the doors and windows, clearly to prevent Brian from sneaking in at night.

People were contradictory, and Richard was no exception.

On one hand, he hoped Brian wouldn't come and that they would have a clean break. On the other hand, he wanted Brian to come and be stopped at the door.

Richard's state was typical of someone who hadn't let go of the past but had already fallen in love again.

All night, Richard was in a semi-awake state.

At one point, when he fell asleep, Richard dreamed that Brian sent him a message, feeling wronged: [Richard, you're too harsh on me. If you don't leave a window open for me, I'll break your glass next time.]

Richard glanced at it but didn't reply. When he woke up and checked his phone again, he realized it was just a dream.

Brian hadn't come, nor had he sent any messages. It was as if he had completely disappeared from Richard's world.

It would be a lie to claim he didn't feel hollow inside, but Richard didn't look for Brian. After putting down his phone, he continued to lie in bed, repeatedly convincing himself to let go.

Another day passed in the blink of an eye.

Feeling a bit stifled at home, Richard went to see Daphne and Benjamin.

Seeing that Richard was clearly not in a good state, Daphne asked with concern, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing," Richard took a sip of water.

Daphne and Benjamin didn't press further, waiting for Richard to speak when he was ready.

Diana ran over with a piece of candy and jumped into Richard's arms, "Richard, have some candy."

Richard smiled and rubbed Diana's head. Seeing this, Diana's beautiful eyes sparkled.

Richard was good-looking, with a clean aura, which made Diana like him a lot.

"Our teacher said that if you're unhappy, you should talk about it," Diana said softly, like a little adult. "Maybe everyone can help solve it together."

"I'm not unhappy," Richard was quite fond of Diana, as her lively and affectionate personality was very endearing. "I just encountered some difficulties in my profession and came out to relax."

Despite his words, Daphne and Benjamin knew it wasn't because of that.

After a while, Benjamin spoke up, "Are you worried about Brian?"

Richard thought, 'why would he worry about Brian?'

"If you're really worried, you can go check on him as a friend," Daphne added. "Most importantly, this might be your last chance to see him."
