Chapter 609 Public Opinion
Yasmin saw Jesse about to leave and dashed over, looking like she was ready to jump into his arms.
Jesse instinctively put his hands up to block her.
Right then, Yasmin pulled out her phone and smashed it on the ground. As it hit the floor, she said something totally misleading, "Let go of me, I'm going to accuse you of sexual harassment."
Then she screamed and ended the livestream.
The viewers and recorders of the livestream started bombarding her with private messages, worried about her safety and following her.
[Are you okay?]
[What did that jerk do to you?]
[Call the cops!]
[He looks decent, but he's actually a heartless creep and a harasser!]
[I checked the background of the livestream; it looks like a five-star hotel in Gedser. Call the security there!]
The internet was buzzing with all kinds of comments and curses.
Anyone else in Jesse's shoes would probably be freaking out or losing it by now. But Jesse just watched Yasmin's little show quietly, then pointed to two spots in the lounge. "There are surveillance cameras. Whether I harassed you or you staged this, it's all on tape."
Yasmin looked a bit rattled but not too worried. She had already planned her escape route. She knew that if she told Eugene what happened, he'd back her up and make sure Jesse didn't come after her.
This way, Yasmin's account would blow up, and she'd get more followers.
People watching the livestream and its recording would know she had connections with the president of HorizonTech Group. Plus, she could keep milking this for more attention. In the long run, her earnings would skyrocket.
"So what if it's all recorded?" Yasmin said, not realizing she had really ticked Jesse off. "Do you think posting it will change anything? As long as I say I was scared and thought you were trying to molest me, they'll believe it."
"The surveillance in this room picks up audio too," Jesse explained. "They'll hear everything you just said."
Yasmin's face changed instantly.
Just then, the lounge door opened. A handsome guy walked in, surrounded by a group of people.
It was Gavin.
When he saw Jesse, Gavin paused, looking surprised. "Jesse?"
"Yeah, Gavin," Jesse responded using the way Daphne had instructed him to address Gavin.
"They told me someone was causing trouble upstairs, bullying a girl," Gavin said, having been pulled over while inspecting the place. "Was it you?"
Jesse nodded. "Yeah."
Gavin trusted Jesse's character. Over the years, he had gotten to know Jesse pretty well. "What happened?" He asked.
"She was livestreaming in this lounge, messing with my image and reputation," Jesse said seriously. "She rushed at me, smashed her phone, making the people in the livestream think I was bullying her."
"Get the surveillance footage from this lounge," Gavin told his team. "Copy what just happened and post it online to clear things up."
"Yes." Gavin's team jumped into action right away.
Yasmin started to panic. "Wait a minute!"
Everyone's eyes turned to her.
Yasmin bit her lip, genuinely scared. "Can you hold off on posting it? I want to talk to Jesse about this."
Gavin looked at Jesse. "Do you want to talk to her?"
Jesse didn't give her a chance. "No talk."
"As long as you give me a chance to talk, I'll find a way to make Eugene go back," Yasmin pleaded, desperate for attention but not wanting to be cyberbullied. "Okay?"
Jesse agreed to this condition.
If Eugene stayed in Gedser, it would be a problem. Given Eugene's personality, if Jesse ignored him, he'd definitely cause trouble. If it escalated to the police, even though Eugene had abandoned Jesse when he was young, the police would still make Jesse support him.
A moment later, only Jesse, Gavin, and Yasmin were left in the lounge.
Yasmin looked uneasy seeing Gavin still there. "Sir, could you please step out for a moment? I want to talk to Jesse alone."
"No," Gavin refused flatly. "What if you say Jesse did something to you again?"
When he heard his team talking about this, Gavin really thought someone dared to cause trouble in his hotel. Turned out it was just a rumor. The power of the internet was indeed strong.
"There are surveillance cameras here; I won't do that," Yasmin replied awkwardly.
"Since you know there are cameras, what's the difference if I listen here or in the surveillance room?" Gavin made it clear he wouldn't give her another chance to frame Jesse.
Whenever Gavin found himself in a tight spot, it was Jesse who often helped him out. Jesse was not just an acquaintance, but a good friend to Gavin.Yasmin twisted her fingers, looking very uneasy.
Jesse's eyes were cold as he spoke clearly, "Go ahead, what do you want to talk about?"
"Today's incident was my fault; I was impulsive. I apologize," Yasmin spoke softly, thinking about what to do. "As long as you agree to let this go, I'll make Eugene go back."
"You have to take responsibility for your mistake," Jesse didn't agree.
"For the sake of us having been neighbors, can you let it go?" Yasmin pleaded, "I'll clarify and apologize to you online."
Gavin suddenly laughed, with a hint of amusement. He crossed his legs and sat in the chair, thinking Yasmin was quite scheming. "Don't play these tricks in front of us."
"What do you mean?" Yasmin felt a lot of pressure.
"I know exactly what you're thinking." Gavin had also looked at the online situation earlier and roughly understood the whole story. "If you apologize now, the netizens will still stand by your side. They'll say we rich people are using our power to bully you, or that we forced you to apologize."
If Yasmin had any hope before, she was genuinely scared now. At this moment, she realized that Jesse and Gavin were not easily fooled. It seemed all her thoughts were transparent in front of them.
"So what do you want?" Yasmin suddenly felt she was making things worse.
"Send my dad back and promise never to instigate him to come here again," Jesse offered a solution. "I won't pursue legal action against you."
Yasmin sat there silently.
