Chapter 398 Can I Return Benjamin?
"If he spills his guts to you, what are you gonna say?" Emma asked.
Daphne shot back, “He ain't confessing to me anymore.”
Emma and Zoey looked like they just saw a ghost.
Emma blurted out, "Why not?"
She thought, 'Did he get shot down? Or is there still some drama between Daphne and Charles? Nah, that can't be it. If there was, Daphne wouldn't be here with Benjamin. Plus, her car ain't even in the lot.'
"We're together," Daphne said, straight-up.
Emma and Zoey froze like deer in headlights.
Their faces screamed shock and disbelief as they gawked at Daphne.
Did they just hear that right? Together!
"When did this go down?" Emma yanked her aside and asked, "Why didn't you spill the beans? How did he pop the question?"
"You're not pissed?" Daphne raised an eyebrow.
Emma and Zoey exchanged a confused look and asked, "Why would we be mad?"
"Didn't you say Benjamin was bad news and told me to steer clear?" Daphne said, blinking.
Emma smirked and spilled the tea, "That was 'cause you were so clueless. We had to shake things up. Otherwise, who knows how long it would've taken for you to get with Benjamin."
Daphne paused.
Zoey, curious as ever, asked, "Did you only find out that night that Benjamin was into you?"
Daphne nodded. If it weren't for the call reminder on her phone showing Benjamin had called her, she probably wouldn't have known he liked her. It all seemed too unreal.
"So, you guys knew all along?" Daphne asked, catching on.
Emma and Zoey both nodded.
Daphne was baffled. How did she miss that?
"That time we all hung out with Benjamin, Evan spilled the beans," Emma said, not holding back now that they were together, "He was probably the first to know."
Hearing this, Daphne thought back.
Ever since Benjamin came back, Evan had been hyping him up in front of her and pulling all sorts of stunts.
She still remembered Evan saying Benjamin might feel insecure because of his status and asked her to look out for him.
Would the heir of the Reynolds Group feel insecure?
Zoey saw Daphne deep in thought and asked, "What's up?"
"You guys should watch out for Evan," Daphne concluded, "He's as sneaky as Benjamin."
"You're wrong," Emma said.
"What?" Daphne asked, confused.
"In the future, you should watch out not just for Evan but also for yourself," Zoey said in a sweet, teasing tone with a smile.
Emma nodded, "Yup."
"Why?" Daphne was puzzled.
"You're Benjamin's girl now," Zoey said seriously, "Who knows when you might pull a fast one on us. After all, no one, including Evan, can outplay Benjamin."
Could she return Benjamin now? Daphne wanted to clear her name.
She was still mulling this over in the evening. Even when a bunch of people piled into the private room to eat and hang out, she sat next to Benjamin, hesitant to speak.
Benjamin noticed Daphne was preoccupied and asked, "What's up?"
"Can I return you?" Daphne asked.
"What?" Benjamin looked puzzled.
"Return you," Daphne repeated.
Benjamin raised an eyebrow, looking at her all chill as he asked, "Why?"
"Because now that I'm with you, Emma and the others are worried I might start scheming on them," Daphne said seriously, though it was all in good fun. "I need to prove I'm not up to no good."
"Just for that?" Benjamin wasn't even fazed.
Daphne nodded.
"Request denied, no returns," Benjamin said lazily, "Would you lose all your strength just 'cause an ant thinks you're too strong and is scared you'll squash it?"
"No," Daphne answered honestly.
But she was thinking, 'What does this have to do with an ant?'
"I'm your strength, and Emma and the others are the ants," Benjamin broke it down.
Emma and Zoey chimed in together, "Benjamin, if you can't make a good analogy, don't even try."
What ant? They were not ants.
"Don't try to stir things up between me and Daphne," Benjamin said calmly. "If anything really goes down, I'll send you to the organization for some hardcore training."
Even though Benjamin had left the organization, it wasn't hard for him to send someone there for a boot camp.
"Daphne, you better not stick with Benjamin. I'm scared you won't be able to outsmart him and you'll get played," Zoey said seriously.
Emma nodded, "If you get played, just roll with it. You can't beat him anyway."
"Right!" Zoey echoed.
"Break up ASAP," Emma added.
"The three of us can stick together. When we're old, we'll hit up a nursing home and be happy old ladies," Zoey said seriously.
"Exactly!" Emma echoed.
Benjamin's dark eyes scanned their faces, still looking all laid-back and noble, super chill.
But Zoey and Emma felt a bit uneasy under his gaze. Would they end up in trouble if they crossed Benjamin?
"Do you wanna go to the nursing home with them and be happy old ladies?" Benjamin asked, looking at Daphne.
Daphne's heart was racing, and she shook her head decisively, "No."
"Do you wanna break up with me?" Benjamin asked again.
"No. Don't dare," Daphne replied.
"Don't dare?" Benjamin repeated.
"No, I won't," Daphne replied cautiously.
"Did you hear that?" Benjamin said to Zoey and Emma, still in that low, lazy voice. "She wants to grow old with me. You two can forget about taking her to the nursing home."
Benjamin knew they were just joking, so he wasn't mad.
Thinking back, if he hadn't confessed early, Daphne might really have been convinced by these two to go to the nursing home.
For the rest of the time, Daphne chatted happily with them, while Evan and Kevin had a good convo with Sierra. Only Chris was drinking alone, clearly not thrilled with Benjamin.
Taking advantage of Daphne and Emma stepping out to handle something, Chris approached Benjamin.
His gaze fell on Benjamin, and this time he asked more seriously than ever, "Are Evan and Kevin really reliable?"
"Yes," Benjamin replied lazily.
"This is not right," Chris protested.
"Why do you think it's not right?" Benjamin asked.
"Sierra's still hung up on the Fisher family's heir. Aren't you worried Evan and Kevin will mind if they find out?" Chris explained.
