Chapter 94 Don't Try to Provoke Me
“What are you waiting for?” Austin commanded decisively. "Get on with it."
On his cue, the guards made their move towards Daphne.
"Wait!"
Daisy spoke up at the crucial moment, halting everyone—guards included.
She peered through the gap between two bodyguards at the distant figure of Austin—tall, poised, an aura of distinction about him. "Why must you insist on ending my pregnancy? If you can't accept the child, let’s just divorce."
Austin’s lips pressed into a thin line, his gaze hiding unfathomable emotions.
"You're not healthy enough for childbirth," he confessed, revealing the reason in hopes of avoiding further conflict. "I've consulted with doctors. If you persist, this child will cost you your life."
Daphne was puzzled.
Glancing at Daisy, Daisy responded with a self-deprecating laugh, as if she'd heard the world’s most ridiculous joke. "Can't you just be honest for once?!"
"You don't believe me?" Austin's eyes narrowed dangerously.
"Wouldn't I, as a mother, know my child's condition?" Daisy tossed back at him. "I went to every prenatal appointment with my assistant—the doctors have continuously confirmed the baby’s health."
If there were any dangers associated with the pregnancy, the doctors would have informed her immediately. Austin’s claims couldn't be true.
"Take them!" Austin, seething with suppressed fury, cut the conversation short.
The bodyguards hesitated no longer, two reaching for Daphne and two for Daisy, clearly intent on forcing Daisy to the operating table.
But they had underestimated Daphne's resolve.
"Boom!"
Daphne preferred to kick when it came to a fight.
Her actions were swift and decisive, without any hint of holding back. She easily handled the guards, and seeing another sent flying, Daisy stood astonished—a mix of amazement and admiration replacing the previous grief.
Was this really the same Daphne she knew?
How could she be so badass?
With swift precision, Daphne's hand shot out to catch the wrist of Daisy's would-be assailant, effortlessly twisting it until a sharp crack echoed.
"Ah!" The bodyguard screamed in agony.
Following up with decisive force, Daphne planted a kick that sent him sprawling next to Austin.
The entire scuffle had lasted less than a minute.
Daphne positioned herself protectively in front of Daisy, her stance toward Austin growing colder. "Really? Attacking a pregnant woman? You're sinking to new lows."
"Sir... she's too strong. We're no match for her."
"With moves like that, she's a match for Mr. Lancelot."
"Should we go at her again?"
A chorus of defeat whispered among them, their spirits notably crushed.
They all silently pleaded for Austin to just tell them to scram, offering a quick escape from their humiliation.
"If you can't handle a woman, then what good are you?" Austin fumed, the idea of Daisy leaving with Daphne adding salt to his wounded pride.
The bodyguards were speechless.
'Why don't you show us how it's done?'
Daphne voiced their thoughts perfectly: "If you think they're not up to it, why don't you step in?"
The bodyguards' eyes lit up.
Miss Murphy!
You're our hero!!!
Austin caught their glances and small gestures with ease, his bitterness toward Charles growing by the second. If Charles hadn't married such a fearsome bride, would he be in this predicament?
"I'll spare you a fight out of respect for being Charles’s wife," Austin said with a self-serving tone.
Four bodyguards had been no match for her.
How could he possibly fare better?
He wasn't a fool.
"No need for his sake," Daphne retorted without a shred of sympathy. "If you're a man, step up."
It was a challenge.
A perfect, legitimate reason for Daphne to give this jerk a lesson on Daisy's behalf.
Austin: "..."
"Sir, no need for courtesy; just take back her."
"Yeah!"
"It's just a woman, you got this, Sir."
"Go for it, boss!"
The four embarrassed bodyguards were unusually vocal in their encouragement, as if fearing they wouldn't be heard otherwise.
Austin was caught between a rock and a hard place. If he confronted Daphne, he'd likely lose, but backing down would brand him a coward in Daisy's eyes.
"Daisy, have you really considered leaving with her?" he deftly shifted the topic, injecting seriousness into the air.
Previously, Daisy might have hesitated, wondering if Daphne could actually take Austin. But now!
Her mind was awash with one clear thought: her sister was nothing short of a goddess!
When Austin dropped that remark, she floated a reply back with nonchalance, “Let's talk about that later. The real issue here is your showdown with Daphne.”
Austin just stood there, speechless.
Every eye in the room zeroed in on him.
It's like they were all awaiting his decision.
“If you can’t beat her, you could just chicken out,” Daisy teased with a lightness that momentarily threw Austin into a daze, as if the woman before him merged with the one he’d first met – lively and cunning, with a bit of a sharp edge.
“I can’t beat her,” Austin owned up without a hint of shame, no desire to embarrass himself on that stage. “But have you really thought this through about leaving with her?”
Daphne shot him a look that screamed: all talk and no action.
Austin read it loud and clear, his hands tensing ever so slightly by his sides.
“Daisy, let’s go.”
And with that, Daphne escorted her to grab her phone and left. No one dared to intercept – nobody fancied getting beaten up again.
Austin watched Daisy's receding figure, in the end saying nothing.
As the dust settled in the hospital, his bodyguards finally found the nerve to speak up, “Young Master, just like that? We let the young mistress walk away with Miss Murphy, and do nothing?”
“Go stop her,” Austin tossed back sarcastically.
As if they could do anything helpful aside from making their presence felt – didn’t they know he wasn’t in the mood for theatrics?
The bodyguards fell silent.
His aide stood by, all the while anticipating the call to action. On seeing the situation unfold, he simply approached, “Young Master.”
“Tail Daphne and Daisy. Find out where they’re staying,” Austin didn’t believe for a second that Daphne could really outplay him. “The moment it's right, bring her back here.”
“Yes, sir,” the aide confirmed the assignment.
He knew who she was.
Austin’s gaze darkened. He fished out his phone and after a moment’s deliberation, sent a message.
Austin: [Don’t try to provoke me. You can’t afford the consequences.]
By the time Daisy saw the message, she had already reached Daphne’s place.
The room had been cleaned and was spotless.
Daphne told her to sit and rest, and went to pour her some hot water. During that brief interval, Daisy glanced at the message.
She chose to ignore it.
