Chapter 503 A Narrow Escape
Gavin was scratching his head, totally baffled. How could Louis, with his super sharp brain, be just four years old?
Then, bam! A wild thought hit him. Could Louis be some big shot reincarnated?
"Hey, can I ask you something?" Gavin's curiosity was on fire. The idea was too juicy to ignore.
Louis gave him a calm look, like, "Go ahead."
Gavin cleared his throat, eyes practically sparkling. "Do you remember a past life?"
"What did you do back then?" Gavin shot straight. "When did you kick the bucket in your past life?"
Louis's brow scrunched up, looking all confused. "Are you for real with these questions?"
"More real than you," Gavin shot back. Seriously, he'd never met a kid this impressive.
Even Daphne wasn't this grown-up when she was little.
Louis shut down the convo, not interested in chatting anymore.
Gavin, feeling bored out of his mind, couldn't just let Louis read while he twiddled his thumbs. "Wanna hit up the amusement park? I'll take you."
"Nope," Louis shot down the idea without a second thought.
Diana suddenly perked up, "Amusement park?"
"You wanna go?" Gavin jumped at the chance. He was all about making kids happy.
"Yes!" Diana said, all excited.
So, Gavin threw on some casual clothes and took Louis and Diana to the amusement park.
On the way, Louis kept his game face on, not saying a word.
Diana, always looking out for Louis, noticed he wasn't feeling it and asked, "Louis, you don't wanna go to the amusement park?"
"I do," Louis replied in his little kid voice.
"Then why the long face?" Diana's observation skills were on point.
Louis shrugged it off. "Just thinking about when Mom's coming back."
Talking about this made Diana a bit down too.
Seeing them like this, Gavin jumped in to cheer them up, "Don't worry, your mom will be back before school starts, and she'll bring you tons of gifts!"
Diana nodded, feeling a bit better.
When they got to the amusement park, Gavin had the bodyguard grab the tickets and asked, "What do you wanna hit up first?"
"Pirate ship!" Diana shouted.
Gavin was all in. "Alright!"
No one noticed Louis's face go pale for a sec, but he quickly shook it off.
"Louis, come on!" Diana grabbed his hand, her voice super cute. "When the pirate ship hits the top, let's scream together, okay?"
"Nope," Louis shot her down again.
Diana, with her big round eyes, looked puzzled. "Why not?"
"Childish."
"But we're kids. Oh, I get it!" Diana's eyes turned into little crescents, her smile super cute. "You think not screaming is cooler?"
Louis wisely kept his mouth shut.
Gavin led them to the back row of the pirate ship.
He had thought about renting the whole place out for them, but they liked the crowd, so he let it slide.
The pirate ship swung back and forth, with screams filling the air.
Louis sat there like a statue, looking all zen.
But if someone touched him, they would realize he was stiff as a board, and that calm look was just a front.
After one ride, Diana was over the moon.
"Can we go again?" She was bouncing with joy.
Gavin nodded. "Sure thing."
Just as he was about to drag Louis and Diana back on, Louis stood there, all serious, and said, "You guys go ahead. I'm sitting this one out."
"Then I'm not going either," Diana said, sticking by Louis. "What do you wanna do? We'll do it together."
Could he just say he didn't wanna do anything?
Gavin couldn't tell if Louis's poker face meant he was bummed or just being his usual self, so he waited.
"Louis?" Diana looked puzzled.
"You guys go first," Louis didn't wanna ruin Diana's fun. "I need to hit the restroom."
He had the bodyguard take him to the restroom. Gavin felt something was off with Louis.
"Does Louis not dig amusement parks?" he wondered.
"he does," Diana said, her thoughts simpler compared to Louis, especially around family. "Every time our parents asked where we wanted to go for fun, Louis always picked the amusement park."
Gavin was stumped. If that was true, why did Louis seem so meh about it?
Unable to figure it out, Gavin whipped out his phone and shot a message to Daphne to get the lowdown.
At that time, Daphne and Benjamin were still on the plane, so they didn't get his message.
Once Louis got to the restroom, he had the bodyguard wait outside.
As soon as he went in, he started retching.
He really couldn't handle stuff with that weightless feeling.
After pulling himself together, Louis washed his hands and, when the bodyguard was about to take him back to Gavin, he made an excuse. "No rush. I wanna see if there's any food around."
"You hungry?" the bodyguard asked.
"Looking for snacks for Diana," Louis said, his voice sweet and cute. "She loves to munch."
The bodyguard nodded.
The two of them wandered around the amusement park. When Gavin called to check in, the bodyguard filled him in.
By the time they found snacks Diana liked, an hour had flown by.
Diana was thrilled to see the food.
"Louis, go play with Gavin first," Diana said while munching. "I'll have the bodyguard bring me to you after I'm done."
"No need. I'll wait for you," Louis said, pulling a book out of his tiny backpack and diving into it.
He had bought a ton of snacks for Diana. It'd take her at least an hour or two to finish them. By the time she was done, it would be lunchtime. Even though there were a lot of snacks, they weren't filling, so she'd still be up for lunch. And things went just as he had planned.
Just as Diana finished her snacks, it was lunchtime, and Gavin took them to find something good to eat.
In this way, Louis dodged a bullet.
