Chapter 373 You Better Have Something Important
Charles felt his emotions spiraling out of control, bit by bit.
All the anger and negative feelings he'd been holding back erupted. He had strong opinions about the situation.
Daphne had been good to him, but suddenly, she chose someone else.
"Why did you save me if you don't like me?" Charles asked Daphne, genuinely puzzled. "Wouldn't it be better if I just died?"
Daphne frowned, thinking, 'Is he losing it?'
Just then, Benjamin walked over.
Seeing Benjamin made Charles even more agitated, his emotions bursting uncontrollably.
Before Charles could say anything, Benjamin knocked him out with a swift karate chop.
Charles's vision went black, and he passed out.
Benjamin caught him just in time, surprising Daphne. "Benjamin."
"In my room, there's a bag with some medication," Benjamin said thoughtfully. "Bring it over, and I'll handle it."
Daphne quickly fetched the medication.
Benjamin laid Charles on the bed and skillfully injected the medication, staying calm throughout.
"This works better than a sedative and has fewer side effects," Benjamin explained to Daphne. "When he wakes up, he'll be stable, and you can talk to him."
"When did you get this?" Daphne asked, feeling a bit relieved.
"The doctor gave it to me when I asked about Charles's condition," Benjamin said. "You should go eat; he won't wake up for another half hour."
Daphne felt conflicted, worried about how Charles would react to his restored memories or if he'd misunderstand the situation.
Seeing her troubled expression, Benjamin asked, "What's wrong?"
Daphne explained what she had discussed with Brian.
Benjamin took her hand and led her outside, gently closing Charles's door behind them.
"Whether he can accept it or not, this is necessary," Benjamin said rationally. "A complete Charles needs his past memories."
Daphne understood but couldn't help overthinking. She thought Charles was crazy for making such a deal with Brian to save her.
The research was still in its early stages, and a mistake could fry his brain, turning him into a living dead or even costing his life. How could he take such a risk?
"Stop worrying," Benjamin said, rubbing her head with his warm hand. "We'll talk when he wakes up. If he doesn't want to restore his memories now, don't force him."
Daphne nodded.
Benjamin saved a portion of each dish for Charles before eating with Daphne.
During the meal, he took care of Daphne, knowing she was feeling heavy-hearted, and gave her the dishes she liked best.
Around 7 PM, Charles woke up.
He had calmed down, maybe due to the medication, but his heart still ached thinking about Daphne being with Benjamin.
Charles didn't get up right away. He lay in bed, trying to clear his mind.
Daphne and Benjamin waited outside until 8 PM. When Charles didn't come out, Daphne went to check on him.
As she opened the door, their eyes met, and everything seemed to freeze.
"Get up and eat," Daphne said simply. "After that, we'll change your medication."
Charles didn't move, his eyes fixed on her.
He really wanted to know if Daphne would choose him without their past.
"What's wrong?" Daphne asked. "Is your wound hurting, or are you feeling unwell?"
"No," Charles replied hoarsely.
He seemed to make a decision, got up, dressed, and walked out in slippers, each step heavy.
Daphne opened her mouth but said nothing.
Seeing Charles come out, Benjamin observed him and, seeing nothing unusual, asked, "Ready to eat?"
"Yes," Charles replied flatly.
Benjamin brought the hot food to the table, and Daphne helped.
Watching their warm interaction, Charles felt a mix of emotions but mostly sadness.
Maybe Benjamin was the best choice for Daphne.
"Eat up," Daphne said, placing the last dish in front of him.
Charles picked up his utensils and started eating. Though the food smelled great, it tasted bitter to him.
After a few bites, he stopped and looked at Daphne and Benjamin. "You saw Brian this afternoon, right?"
"Yes," Daphne admitted.
"What did he say?" Charles asked, taking another bite.
Daphne hesitated, unsure if she should tell him.
Charles seemed calm, apart from some loneliness and sadness. "Just say it; I can handle it."
"He said he could help you restore your memories," Daphne told him. "You can choose the time; whenever you're ready."
"Okay," Charles agreed and then fell silent, eating slowly.
Daphne worried about his condition. He had been so agitated before, but now he seemed lifeless.
Ten minutes later, Charles finished his meal.
After cleaning up, he looked at Benjamin. "I want to talk to you."
"Where?" Benjamin asked.
"Daphne's study," Charles said.
Benjamin nodded. "Okay."
They went into Daphne's study without saying a word to her.
Thanks to the medication, Charles was calm but still determined to speak his mind.
Daphne didn't know what they talked about inside.
Charles was the first to come out. He said nothing and went back to his room, closing the door.
On the balcony, Charles dialed Brian's number.
Brian was busy, with Richard handing him a change of clothes and talking to him.
Brian felt pleased, thinking, 'Richard still cares about me.'
But then his phone rang. Seeing it was Charles, Brian suppressed his emotions and cursed, 'Charles, this better be important.'
