Chapter 634 Louis is a Mood Killer
"I don't see why not," Benjamin, always the sharp one, said. "Charles is doing great in every way. He knows how to keep things cool with you. He likes Diana, and she likes him back. It's all good."
Honestly, if he and the current Charles had met Daphne at the same time and confessed their feelings simultaneously, Benjamin really wouldn't know who Daphne would choose.
Daphne glanced at him and responded, "Okay."
Seeing it was getting late, Benjamin turned off the light and held her as they slept. He could sense that Charles still liked Daphne, but so what? Daphne was already his.
The next morning, everyone got up early.
Diana, still buzzing from last night's excitement, couldn't wait to share it with Louis after breakfast. "Louis, I have some good news for you."
"Charles accepted me as his goddaughter," Diana said happily. "This means I can hang out with Charles often from now on."
Louis responded coolly, "Dad won't agree."
"He agreed," Diana said truthfully. "Last night, both Dad and Mom agreed."
Louis thought it was impossible. "Are you sure they agreed?"
"Yes, we talked about it while sitting there," Diana said, pointing towards the sofa.
Louis looked skeptical. After a brief chat with Diana, he noticed Benjamin talking with Charles. As Diana pulled Charles away, Louis seized the opportunity to approach his father. "Dad."
"What's up?" Benjamin responded casually.
"Can we talk?" Louis, mature beyond his years, asked.
Seeing his serious expression, Benjamin went with him to the garden. They sat down on a bench, and from a distance, it looked as if a father were scolding his son.
"What do you want to talk about?" Benjamin asked, appearing nonchalant.
Louis's voice was soft but determined. "Diana said Charles plans to take her as his goddaughter?"
Benjamin said, "Yes."
Louis asked, "You agreed?"
"Yes." Seeing his expression, Benjamin asked, "What's wrong?"
"You know what kind of relationship Charles has with Mom, right?" Louis tentatively asked, his young face showing maturity.
Benjamin paused, then seemed to realize something. "Have you been investigating your mom?"
Louis thought to himself, 'I'm not investigating.'
"Did you really agree to Charles taking Diana as his goddaughter?" Louis still found it strange.
"Why not?" Benjamin countered.
Louis answered directly, "Aren't you rivals in love?"
"Isn't that perfect?" Benjamin's nonchalant tone made it hard to gauge his true feelings. "One more person to help raise my daughter."
Louis stood up, ready to leave. He realized that Benjamin's thinking was indeed beyond ordinary people's comprehension.
"Do you know Charles still likes Mom?" Louis said as he was about to leave.
"This is for adults to handle," Benjamin thought Louis was too mature for his age. "Don't bring this up in front of your mom."
Daphne was emotionally oblivious. As long as things weren't made obvious, she wouldn't notice.
Louis said, "Got it."
After saying that, Louis was about to leave.
"Wait a minute," Benjamin suddenly called out to him.
Louis turned to look.
Benjamin walked up to him, looking down at the overly smart Louis. "How do you know Charles still likes your mom?"
Louis was just a kid, and he had gone upstairs right after coming back last night. It seemed unlikely he would have noticed anything.
"I accidentally overheard Charles talking to his pursuer on the phone last night," Louis said, his young voice carrying a hint of maturity. "He said he used to like Mom, still likes Mom, and will always like Mom."
"Yeah, just like me," Benjamin naturally added.
Louis looked at him with confusion. Wouldn't a normal person feel jealous or have some negative emotions upon hearing that?
"Is that really normal?" Louis couldn't help but ask.
"Of course it is," Benjamin replied, ruffling his hair nonchalantly. "It's totally normal to always like your mom. Now, focus on your studies and stop worrying about stuff that doesn't concern you."Louis frowned and brushed his hand away.
Benjamin lightly tapped Louis's forehead and didn't say much more.
For the rest of the day, Charles stayed and played with Diana. It wasn't until around four or five in the afternoon that he received a call from Laura and left.
Diana looked at him reluctantly. "Charles, can't you stay a few more days?"
"I'll come back in a few days to play with you," Charles said gently, ruffling her hair.
Diana was still reluctant.
Charles comforted her for a while before leaving.
As she watched Charles's car drive away with longing eyes, Louis stood beside her and said, "Go back and do your homework."
"Louis!" Diana looked at him disapprovingly, accusing him of his behavior. "Can't you see I'm feeling sad?"
"And then?" Louis asked, puzzled.
"You're ruining my mood by telling me to do homework!" Diana thought Louis was really too dull. For all his smarts, he'd probably have a hard time finding a wife in the future."No matter how much it ruins your mood, you still have to do it," Louis said, holding her hand and walking inside, utterly ruthless. "You managed to skip your extracurricular class, but you can't skip your homework."
Diana puffed out her cheeks, feeling annoyed but still trying to stay obedient.
"Louis," Diana said, leaning over after writing just one word, her round eyes darting around.
Louis thought she had trouble with her homework. "What's wrong?"
"Why doesn't Charles have a wife if he's so good-looking?" Diana tilted her head, thinking seriously. "If he has a wife and kids in the future, will he still come to play with me?"
"Do your homework," Louis dodged the question.
He thought, 'A wife and kids? Not likely. Based on Charles's attitude during the phone call last night, it's clear he intends to stay single forever.'
"Don't just focus on your homework." Diana decided to help Louis develop some emotional intelligence. "You'll never find a girlfriend that way."
"No need," Louis replied instantly, extremely indifferent.
Diana activated the camera function on her smartwatch, her round eyes gleaming mischievously. "Say what you just said again, but into this."
"No..." Louis instinctively started to refuse but paused the moment he began to speak.
