Chapter 689 Made Me Wait So Long

"No one said that just because you run a restaurant at home, you can't eat at other places, right?" Diana retorted naturally.

Caspian couldn't get the words out of his mouth.

Alvin sensed the strange atmosphere between the two, looking puzzled. Wasn't Caspian into Diana? Why was he acting like this towards her?

"I'll officially start work next Monday. I've already completed the onboarding process," Diana said to Caspian, not caring at all about his cold demeanor. "Is there anything you need to tell me?"

"One-week probation." Caspian made it clear he wanted to make things difficult for Diana. "If you don't pass, you're out."

"Okay." Diana nodded.

Diana didn't linger. After speaking, she turned and left the office to find Charles.

Caspian thought Diana would smile and try to get close to him, asking why he hadn't replied to her letters or met her all these years.

But as he anxiously and complicatedly waited for these questions, Diana asked nothing, as if she was simply there to apply for the job.

"Mr. Garcia," Alvin hesitated, looking at the door Diana had just closed. "Diana was personally brought in by Mr. Lancelot. Everyone else gets a month-long probation. One week seems a bit short."

A week might not even be enough to fully familiarize herself with the company's departments.

If Caspian deliberately made things difficult, Diana would definitely leave.

"What if Mr. Lancelot holds you accountable..." Alvin reminded.

"I'll explain it to him personally." Caspian, knowing why Charles did this, rubbed his tired brow and instructed, "Don't worry about it."

Alvin obediently agreed, "Okay."

As he was leaving, Diana and Charles came out of the lounge, seemingly about to leave the company.

Charles saw Alvin and, thinking that Alvin was knowledgeable about work but a bit lacking in emotional insight, kindly reminded him, "Alvin, come here for a moment."

"Mr. Lancelot," Alvin greeted politely.

"When Diana starts next week, help her out more." Charles laid the groundwork, glancing meaningfully towards the CEO's office before continuing. "If Caspian has any conflicts with her, just ignore it."

"Understood." Alvin instantly got it.

Charles nodded and then left with Diana.

As they got into the car to go home, Charles asked Diana about her progress, "How did it go? Was it as you imagined?"

"Not exactly," Diana recalled. "His demeanor is very different from when he was younger."

Charles explained, "Of course it is. He was a student back then, now he's a boss."

If it were the same, wouldn't that mean he hadn't grown at all over the years?

"How did he treat you?" Charles asked again.

"Indifferent," Diana answered objectively. "But it feels like he doesn't really like me."

Knowing she was determined to pursue Caspian, Charles was a bit worried. "So what are you going to do?"

"What else can I do? Just get along for now." Diana remained calm, rarely showing much emotion in such matters. "Didn't you say there's a 70% chance he likes me?"

"Seventy, not a hundred," Charles reminded.

"Don't worry, I know what I'm doing." Diana had already planned how to test Caspian's true feelings.

She had learned about some of the Lancelot Group's policies. Most of the time, when a new employee joined, there would be a welcome dinner.

If all went well, Diana would use this dinner as her first step in pursuing Caspian.

While Diana's emotions remained unaffected and she went about her life as usual, Caspian was restless.

He sat in his chair, lost in thought, his mind filled with the image of Diana suddenly appearing in his office. Over the years, he had secretly visited her many times, but never face-to-face like this.

"Mr. Garcia?" Alvin tentatively spoke.

Caspian was forced back to reality but still seemed a bit out of it. "What is it?"

"This document is urgent." Alvin pointed to the document that had been sitting in front of Caspian for two hours without being signed, lowering his voice, "Could you sign it first?"

Caspian glanced at it, confirmed there were no issues, and signed. Then he handed it to Alvin.

As Alvin was about to leave, Caspian suddenly asked, "Do I have any business trips scheduled soon?"

"None in the next two months," Alvin answered honestly. "Why?"

"Nothing." Caspian didn't elaborate.

At that moment, his mind was filled with questions about why Diana had come, why she had joined the Lancelot Group, and why she had become his personal assistant.

With Diana's background, education, and work experience, she was more than qualified to apply for a department manager position.

While pondering, Caspian received a message on his phone.

It was from Charles: [Come over for dinner tonight. Diana will be there too, so you two can catch up.]

Caspian: [Charles, are you doing this on purpose?]

Charles: [What?]

Caspian rubbed his brow, ultimately saying nothing more. He replied with an "Okay" and put his phone down to get back to work.

That evening, Caspian left work at five without staying late.

When Caspian arrived, dinner was already prepared.

"You're back," Diana greeted Caspian as if nothing had happened in the years they hadn't seen each other. "Go wash your hands, we're about to eat."

Caspian paused, unsure how to describe his feelings. Diana didn't say much to him and took out the fruit wine Charles had someone make.

Ignoring their inner worlds, it was a warm scene.

Ten minutes later.

Everyone sat around the table and started eating.

Diana was eating when she suddenly called out to Caspian, "Caspian."

"Hmm?" Caspian instinctively looked up at her.

"Did you ever receive any of the messages, emails, and letters I sent you over the years?" Diana suddenly asked, catching him off guard.

Caspian froze, the hair falling over his forehead adding a touch of silence to his demeanor.

After a long pause, Caspian finally replied, "I did."

"Then why didn't you reply?" Diana took a bite of meat. "I waited for so long."

"No time." Caspian didn't even bother to make an excuse. "And I didn't want to."
