Chapter 355 Let's Talk When You Have Time.
"Daphne's on the phone, says it's urgent." Richard handed him the phone, looking half-asleep. "Take it."
Brian hesitated. "If I take it, will you cut me some slack?"
"Charles is your patient, not mine," Richard replied, indifferent.
Brian felt stuck. If he ignored the call, Richard would think he was irresponsible. But if he took it, he'd have to deal with Charles. All his efforts to move in would be for nothing.
After a moment, Brian reluctantly took the phone, took a deep breath, and answered, "Hello."
"Brian?" Daphne asked.
"Yeah, it's me."
"Charles seems mentally fine," Daphne said, "but he's got some psychological issues. He's acting really different."
Brian was surprised. Before Christmas, Charles had asked him to keep his recovery a secret. Why was he revealing it now?
"What happened?" Brian asked.
Daphne explained what happened that night, highlighting Charles' odd behavior.
Brian frowned. "Why did you reject him?"
Daphne thought, 'Should I have agreed if I don't like him?'
"I told you his condition wasn't stable," Brian said, worried. "He needs a calm environment. He can't handle shocks."
"Yes," Daphne agreed.
"Then why did you reject him?"
"I don't like him. Accepting his confession would hurt him more."
"Just keep him stable for now," Brian advised. "No more shocks. I'll go abroad to get the medication and come back ASAP."
"Okay," Daphne agreed.
"Seriously, no more shocks," Brian emphasized. "Or it'll get out of control."
"Got it," Daphne said.
The call ended. Brian handed the phone back to Richard.
Even though Brian didn't want to leave, Charles' situation was critical. He had to go back, both for their agreement and his duty as a doctor.
If he didn't return soon, Charles might be in real trouble.
"Is it bad?" Richard asked, seeing Brian's worried look.
"Yeah," Brian nodded. "Once I handle Charles, we'll talk about us."
Charles couldn't wait, and Brian didn't want to delay things with Richard either.
Richard didn't look at Brian, just took the phone and walked to his room.
"Richard," Brian called out before the door closed, "Wait for me."
The response was the door closing.
Brian didn't waste time and booked a flight abroad.
He hadn't expected Charles' condition to change so fast, so he hadn't brought the research results and medication back.
Charles was supposed to stay obediently by Daphne's side. How did it end up like this?
With no flights available that day, Brian had to fly out the next morning. After packing, he called Charles.
Charles hung up and texted him to mind his own business.
Seeing this, Brian knew things were worse than he thought. He just hoped Daphne wouldn't provoke Charles further.
But neither Brian nor Daphne knew what would set Charles off.
After Daphne finished talking with Brian, Benjamin showed up. He asked Daphne about the situation. She relayed what Brian had said.
"Following Mark shouldn't be a big problem," Daphne said. "If I go to him, it might provoke him. Brian emphasized not provoking him."
"If you don't go to him, he might feel you don't care," Benjamin speculated.
Benjamin had reviewed Charles' records and confirmed that the current Charles was completely different from the past. Professionals had told him that even with amnesia, a person's personality wouldn't change drastically. Charles' situation was clearly abnormal.
Daphne paused. "I don't think so."
"Given his previous possessiveness, he wants your care and attention," Benjamin analyzed. "If you don't go to him, he might feel neglected."
Many issues arise from emotional changes.
Daphne found this reasonable but said, "If I find him and he asks if I want to be with him, what should I do?"
If she said no, it would be another shock and could make things worse.
"He listens to you," Benjamin suggested. "If he asks again, gently refuse but give him some hope, stalling until Brian returns."
"Isn't that a bit bad?" Daphne was reluctant. Brian's return didn't guarantee Charles' memory would recover. If she made a promise, she had to keep it. If Charles never recovered and met her conditions, she'd have to be with him.
"Keep things calm for now," Benjamin advised. "I'll contact some people in the organization to see if they have any solutions."
After much consideration, Daphne agreed. "Okay."
Benjamin went to make contacts, and Daphne called Charles again.
She couldn't figure him out based on how he used to be. Since the incident, he was a whole different person. Although his mind had recovered, when it came to feelings, he acted like a moody kid.
When Daphne called, Charles was in the shower and missed her three calls.
Daphne didn't keep calling. After some thought, she sent Charles a message: [Call me back when you see this. You didn't eat much tonight, make sure Mark prepares you some snacks. Don't go hungry. Let's talk when you have time.]
After his shower, Charles saw the message.
Seeing the three missed calls and the worried message, all his bad vibes melted away.
