Chapter 720 Because I Know Him
"If someone better than you pursues Diana in the future, what will you do?" Chloe asked him directly, not caring about anything else. "Will you let her go or hold on to her?"
"Chloe," Diana reminded her again.
Chloe glanced at her, her eyes conveying a message: "This question needs to be resolved sooner or later."
Diana signaled back, "Not today."
If Diana had known Chloe would ask these questions, she would have prepared in advance, at least to avoid catching Caspian off guard.
Diana was really worried that Caspian would feel her friends were making things difficult for him.
"I won't let go," Caspian said, unconsciously tightening his grip on Diana's hand. "Unless she wants to leave me."
"If she does, will you let her?" Chloe asked again.
"I won't," Diana interjected, signaling Chloe to stop. "I just want to be with him."
Seeing Diana like this, Chloe didn't say more.
In a spare moment, Chloe sent Diana a message on her phone: [Come with me to the restroom later.]
Diana saw it and replied with an "Okay."
As the meal was nearing its end, Diana went to the restroom with Chloe, leaving only Eddy and Caspian in the private room.
Looking at the indifferent Caspian sitting across from him, Eddy said, "Are you the Caspian Diana talked about when she was little?"
"Yes," Caspian replied, his emotions subdued.
"Diana has made friends everywhere since she was a child," Eddy said.
Caspian took it seriously, his brows furrowing slightly.
Eddy, being a straightforward person, said whatever came to mind, "When she was little, she played role-playing games with Lon and said she would marry him when she grew up. I didn't expect her to want to marry you instead."
Caspian pressed his lips together, his mood gradually worsening.
"Don't doubt her feelings for you because of this," Eddy noticed Caspian's mood and added. "Lon confessed to her recently, and she rejected him. She really likes you."
"Okay," Caspian said, still not very enthusiastic.
Eddy suddenly became serious. "Do you know why I'm telling you this?"
Caspian's brows showed a hint of confusion.
It was clear that Caspian wasn't very sure, or perhaps he had a guess but thought it was wrong.
"I want you to know that you don't need to feel inferior. Just be with Diana properly," Eddy said, unusually saying something pleasant. "Diana has always had high standards. Her choosing to be with you means you're the best person she's ever met."
This simple statement shook Caspian to his core.
"Do you know much about her?" Eddy asked again.
Caspian thought for a moment and shook his head. "Not much."
He knew the details of Diana's life and her preferences.
But he couldn't fully understand Diana's personality and thoughts.
"Don't be fooled by her friendliness and enthusiasm towards everyone. In reality, she's very proud," Eddy said, deciding to help after hearing what Diana had told him. "If someone else had rejected her, she would ignore that person for life."
Caspian looked at him.
"Do you understand what I'm saying?" Eddy asked.
"Yes," Caspian replied.
"I hope you treat her well," Eddy said, glancing at where Diana had been sitting. "She may seem carefree, but she's very sensitive. If you lose her because of something or someone, she might never recover."
Caspian had heard similar words from his neighbor.
He thought of how happy Diana always seemed when she saw him, but life couldn't be happy every moment.
"As her friend, I want her to always be happy," Eddy said sincerely.
The previous sentence was something Diana had taught him to say, but this one came from Eddy's heart.
Caspian nodded.
At this moment, he suddenly felt it was okay for Diana to continue hanging out with Eddy.
Eddy had no ulterior motives towards Diana and genuinely cared for her, without any hostility towards Caspian.
Caspian thought he should restrain himself a bit more and let her go back to Gedser to play with her friends.
"Come on." Eddy raised a glass to toast Caspian. "Let's have a drink."
"Okay." Caspian raised his glass and started drinking with him.
Meanwhile, in the restroom.
Chloe was washing her hands with Diana and looking in the mirror at the beautiful, youthful girl. Chloe couldn't help but ask, "Why did you stop me earlier?"
"He's not suited for those questions," Diana said, protecting Caspian.
"Whether he's suited or not, he has to deal with it," Chloe said, feeling a bit sorry for her. "What if he makes you feel wronged or angry in the future, and he takes your angry words seriously? Won't that drive you crazy?"
"It won't happen," Diana answered confidently.
Chloe gently pinched her face. "A girl in love can't be 100% rational."
"I can't speak for others, but I can assure you, I can be," Diana said seriously.
Chloe wondered why Diana couldn't understand.
"Caspian isn't the type to make me angry. If he ever chooses to give up on me because of something, I won't be mad at him," Diana said, her heart full of Caspian. "He's just not confident."
He didn't believe he could give her a good life.
He didn't believe he was her best choice.
Chloe looked at her helplessly. "Why do I feel like you're a bit love-struck?"
"There's a difference between being love-struck and me," Diana said rationally. "I won't lose myself for Caspian. The reason I speak for him is because I understand him."
"Don't worry, he's a very, very good person. Do you think my judgment is that bad?" Diana knew Chloe wanted the best for her. After all, everyone hopes their friend can be with someone who cherishes them.
Caspian gave them the impression that he would give up on her when things got tough.
Chloe sighed, a bit of worry and concern in her brows. "Are you really sure about him?"
"Yes."
"No changing?"
"Absolutely not."
"Why do you like him so much?" Chloe was curious. "And you've hidden it for so many years."
"Because he is a great person," Diana said, her lips curling up when she talked about Caspian, her whole being happy. "Most importantly, there are things about him that really move me."
