Chapter 343 Hit Me However You Want

Charles paused, still not fully processing, blood dripping from his hand. "What did you just say?"

"Don't cut yourself next time,", Daphne said, a bit uneasy. "Someone will bring food; you don't need to worry about meals."

"Did you just call me stupid?", Charles demanded.

How was she supposed to respond to that?

Charles stared into her eyes. "Do you really think I'm stupid?"

"I'm even more stupid than you,", Daphne replied. "At least you can cook. I can't even do that."

So, she still thought he was stupid? Did she think Benjamin next door, who could cook, was smart?

"From today on, I'll learn to cook properly,", Charles promised. "When I can make lots of delicious food, will you marry me?"

"No,", Daphne answered bluntly.

"Why?", Charles asked.

"No reason,", Daphne said.

"Is it because of the past that you think I'm unreliable?", Charles continued, playing his part well. "Is that why you rejected me so quickly?"

Daphne paused, unsure how to respond.

Charles took her silence as agreement and walked out to get a baseball bat. "Hit me."

"As long as it makes you feel better, you can hit me however you want,", Charles said seriously. "I promise I won't make a sound."

"I rejected you because I don't like you right now,", Daphne said naturally. "Only when two people like each other can they be together, understand?"

Charles's head drooped. "Got it."

Daphne wasn't used to seeing him so down. "Don't overthink it."

"Okay.", Charles left.

For over an hour, Charles didn't come to find her.

At lunch, he only took a small bite and said he was full.

Daphne wanted him to eat more but didn't push it, considering his state. There were snacks, fruits, and desserts at home.

After lunch, Daphne went to the study to handle some matters, not worrying about what Charles was doing. A seventeen-year-old wouldn't do anything too crazy, she thought.

They spent the afternoon without disturbing each other.

In the evening, after dinner, Daphne and Charles watched TV in the living room before going to their rooms to rest.

Then their peaceful life was disrupted by a sudden scream.

Daphne quickly got out of bed and opened the door. Before she could knock on Charles's door, he ran out, looking terrified. "Daphne! I'm scared!"

"What happened?", Daphne asked calmly.

"Blood." Charles leaned into Daphne, shaking. "There's so much blood in the room."

Daphne frowned and patted his shoulder, not scared at all. "Stay here. I'll go check."

"No.", Charles clung to her arm, terrified. "I'm scared."

Daphne turned on all the lights in the living room, trying to calm him down.

But she overestimated Charles's courage. No matter what she said, he kept clinging to her arm, fear filled with him.

Helpless, Daphne had to take Charles to his room.

The moment the door opened, there were bloodstains all over the floor and some on the walls, making the scene look horrifying.

Daphne turned on the light to see more clearly, but the bloodstains disappeared the moment the light came on.

Charles said, "Daphne,"

"What did you do in the room today?" Daphne asked calmly.

"Nothing," Charles confessed. "After lunch, I took a nap, then went downstairs to buy some things. When I came back, I stayed in the living room and didn't go anywhere."

Daphne thought something was off. She clearly heard noises from his room in the afternoon.

"You're not lying?" Daphne asked.

"No," Charles said honestly, his eyes pure. "Daphne, don't you believe me?"

Daphne frowned. If Charles was telling the truth, it meant the person in the room in the afternoon wasn't him but someone else.

But considering how well Charles had acted before, she wondered if he was lying.

"Go out first; don't disturb the scene," Daphne decided to trick him. "I'll call the police and let them handle it."

Charles obediently agreed. "Okay."

Daphne hesitated with her phone in hand, thinking, 'Is it really not him?'

"Wait, don't call the police!", A cheerful voice suddenly emerged, and then a disheveled, pale-faced person with blood streaming from their orifices crawled out from under the bed. "It's me!"

"Ah!", Charles screamed again, clinging tighter to Daphne's arm.

Daphne's heart skipped a beat. She wasn't afraid of ghosts, but a sudden creepy face still caused some shock.

She looked at the "ghost," who was wearing a white dress with long hair, and because of the exaggerated makeup, it was hard to recognize the original appearance.

"Who are you?", Daphne asked.

"It's me,", Nina pushed her hair back and smiled. "Nina."

Daphne glanced around the room, her tone becoming more serious. "Did you do this?"

"I just wanted to help you scare Charles,", Nina said seriously, looking quite cheerful. "I've learned a lot about you and him recently, and I'm standing up for you."

"Ridiculous,", Daphne said, a bit angry.

Nina scratched her face, her bright eyes showing some unease. "Are you mad?"

"Clean up and come out,", Daphne said, closing the door.

Nina responded with an "oh."

Daphne and Charles sat on the couch in the living room, Charles still clinging to her, as if letting go would make him very scared.

"Daphne, I'm scared,", Charles said, holding her hand, very uneasy.

"It's okay,", Daphne said, trying to comfort him. She never expected this to be Nina's doing. "Don't be afraid."

Logically, even if Nina was mischievous, she wouldn't do something so pointless.

The most important thing was, how did Nina get in?

Even if Nina knew the password or could crack it, she should have been seen by Charles, who was in the living room.
