Chapter 226 Daphne's Confidence
"Next year, you are supposed to manage the company." Gavin told her an important piece of news. "If you don't come to the team-building event to meet the management, you won't even know which parts they are responsible for."
Daphne squinted her eyes. She asked, "Who told you I was going to manage the company?"
"Alexander," Gavin said causally, "He's already decided to hand the company over to you."
Daphne furrowed her brows. She had already said she wouldn't manage the company.
"Aren't you managing it quite well?" she asked.
"I want a bit of a free life," Gavin said earnestly, "I've been managing the company for you for so long. I need to leave some time to date. Otherwise, I won't even have the possibility of getting married."
Daphne retorted, "There aren't that many things to handle in the company."
"If you come to the team-building event tomorrow, I might consider managing it for another year. You decide for yourself whether to come tomorrow," Gavin said.
"I got it." Daphne hung up the phone.
She knew she had to go to this team-building event. However, she didn't know that after the call, Gavin reported to the people around him.
At that moment, Gavin was with Lydia and Alexander.
"Daffy has agreed to attend tomorrow's team-building event," Gavin said, breathing a sigh of relief and feeling a bit more at ease.
Lydia smiled and said, "You never disappoint me!"
Alexander asked, "She wasn't angry, was she?"
"Probably not," Gavin said slowly, not very sure, "Her tone sounded normal, but she might come to you later to ask about managing the company."
"That's fine." Alexander didn't mind.
"She doesn't like too many people," Lydia reminded, "Tomorrow, apart from the people she knows, don't put anyone else in her group."
"Don't worry. I know," Gavin replied.
Daphne had no idea about these arrangements. After the call, she went to sleep, as she was very tired.
Early the next morning, Daphne went to work.
As it was the last day of September, she and Jesse went to work at the Murphy Group.
After all, Murphy & Sis International Group had already given the employees a holiday. She hoped they would have a happy vacation.
On the way to the Murphy Group, Daphne looked at Jesse. She had already given him a holiday, but he was unwilling to take it and insisted on coming with her.
She couldn't stop him, so she let him be.
At Murphy Group, they only worked half a day in the morning before organizing a team-building event.
Each department was responsible for its team-building activities. Murphy Group had so many people that, except for the annual meeting, where everyone gathered, each department planned the usual team-building events.
After finishing work at noon, Gavin came to find her.
After getting the address, Daphne told them to go ahead and that she would join them after finishing her tasks. Gavin agreed.
Daphne finished her work by one in the afternoon.
After having lunch with Jesse, they leisurely headed out, but they didn't expect to see Aubrey when leaving the Murphy Group.
Daphne glanced at her and then looked away, leaving.
However, Aubrey was emotional. Yesterday, she had someone investigate Daphne, but all they found was brief information that she was a female.
These details were even less than what Aubrey knew. They didn't even include that Daphne was Charles' ex-wife and the eldest daughter of the Murphy family.
This made her wonder what other identities Daphne might have. Why was her information so thoroughly hidden?
Daphne was unaware of Aubrey's thoughts. Even if she knew, she probably wouldn't care.
After Daphne and Jesse left, they headed straight to the resort Gavin had mentioned. By the time they arrived, it was already past three in the afternoon.
As soon as Jesse parked the car, they heard someone calling Daphne. "Daphne?"
Daphne was a bit surprised. She turned her head and saw Austin just getting out of his car.
Before she could say anything, Austin reopened his car door and took something out, walking towards her. "It's good you're here. I need to talk to you."
"Cut to the chase," Daphne said, as curt as ever.
"It's about Daisy. I want to discuss it with you in detail," Austin said, raising the divorce agreement in his hand.
Daphne agreed. "Alright."
Austin then led Daphne away. When he saw Jesse following, he frowned slightly and asked, "And this is?"
"He's my assistant." Daphne didn't elaborate further.
Austin looked at Jesse and Daphne's expressions. He realized that if he asked Jesse to wait, Daphne would probably not agree, so he decided to bring him along as well.
After a while, Austin led them to a private room in the resort.
He handed the divorce agreement directly to Daphne and said, "Take a look. If there are no issues, please give it to Daisy."
Daphne took it.
As she read through it, Austin seemed hesitant, as if he wanted to say something but didn't know where to start.
"Fifty million dollars?" Daphne looked at the amount.
"Yes," Austin replied.
Daphne didn't say anything.
She flipped through the pages absentmindedly, clearly not very interested in the divorce agreement.
Austin noticed this and asked directly, "Do you think it's too little?"
"Legally speaking, marital assets are joint property, and in a divorce, they should be split equally," Daphne said calmly as she looked at the agreement, "What do you think?"
Austin wasn't surprised at all. He simply said, "Half is fine, but I have a condition."
"What is it?"
"I want custody of the child," Daphne asked.
"Impossible." Daphne retorted without hesitation.
"My child won't have a stable life with Daisy," Austin said bluntly, even realistically, "How can she balance raising a child and earning money on her own? Her parents won't help her."
Daphne didn't respond. She wanted to see what else Austin could say.
"But if the child is with me, I can provide the best educational environment and the best material life," Austin said earnestly, "He will never have to worry about money."
"He indeed won't have to worry about money." Daphne admitted. "However, whether he will be raised properly is another matter."
"What do you mean?" Austin frowned.
Daphne didn't hold back, mocking, "I don't think the Hills can raise a child well. After all, they raised you, and your character is questionable."
"Daphne!" Austin fumed.
"The issues you mentioned, I can help Daisy solve," Daphne retorted confidently, "I can help raise the child, allowing her to focus on her career or on raising the child."
"You say that now, but do you really believe it?" Austin thought Daphne was just bluffing. "Over time, won't you think Daisy is only friends with you for money?"
