Chapter 484 Henry Got Jealous

"Yo, don't go blabbing about being a Reynolds when you're out," Henry said. "And steer clear of the Reynolds Group; it's just plain embarrassing."

"Got it," Benjamin replied, all chill. "From now on, I'm rolling with the Murphy crew."

Henry and Anouk chimed in together, "Are you seriously hooked on mooching off women?"

"Yup," Benjamin said, grinning. "Who wouldn't be?"

Henry and Anouk just rolled their eyes.

"Ben, this ain't cool," Anouk said, trying to keep it real. "We don't care what else you do, but letting Daphne pop the question? That's low."

Benjamin's eyes flickered. So, Chris only spilled half the tea?

"Daphne proposing means she doesn't give a damn about what people think," Anouk said, clearly fond of Daphne. "But as her guy, you gotta think about her rep."

"You know what folks say when a girl proposes?" Anouk asked.

Benjamin nodded, voice low. "They'll think she's desperate and it'll end badly."

"Knowing that, you still let her do it?" Anouk snapped.

Daphne might not care about the gossip, but they did. They didn't want such a good girl getting dragged through the mud.

"Be real with me, have you had a change of heart?" Anouk pressed. She really thought Daphne was a gem.

Daphne was independent, strong, and thoughtful—a total catch.

Benjamin pursed his lips, pulled up a video on his phone, and handed it over. "Watch this before you jump to conclusions."

Anouk and Henry exchanged looks but took the phone.

As they watched, Benjamin explained, "We both proposed on the same day. Neither of us saw it coming."

Anouk watched the video, eyes softening. "Man, I wish I were thirty years younger."

"Wasn't Dad's proposal romantic?" Benjamin teased.

"Just some flowers, how romantic could it be?" Anouk huffed. "He even botched it."

Benjamin was curious. "How'd he mess up?"

"Everyone else kneels on one knee; he..."

Henry started coughing, trying to cover it up.

Anouk shot him a look but decided to cut him some slack in front of Benjamin.

Benjamin smirked. "Both knees?"

"Yeah! Everyone was cracking up."

"They were laughing at me, not you."

"Still, I was mortified."

"You say it wasn't romantic, but who was bawling her eyes out?" Henry said, trying to save face. "You even said you'd marry no one but me."

"That's 'cause I hadn't met Daphne yet," Anouk shot back, eyeing the drone show and fireworks Daphne had set up. "If Daphne had proposed to me at the same time as you, I'd have picked her."

Benjamin couldn't help but laugh.

"What's so funny? Your wife's about to be snatched, and you're laughing?" Henry scolded.

Benjamin shrugged, "What about your wife?"

Henry glared at him, then asked, "You really dig Daphne's proposal that much?"

"Enough to forget about gender, what do you think?" Anouk, even in her sixties, had a youthful spirit.

Henry got the hint but just said, "Liking her won't change anything; she's your son's girl."

Anouk ignored him, replaying Daphne's proposal on her phone.

If she had only liked Daphne before, now Anouk saw her as a brave, independent, and stubborn daughter. She adored that proposal.

Henry, hiding behind his newspaper, texted Benjamin: [This is all your fault.]

Benjamin replied: [Jealous much?]

Henry was definitely jealous. Anouk even wished she was thirty years younger to be wooed by Daphne.

"Benjamin," Anouk suddenly said.

Benjamin looked up, always gentle with her. "Yeah?"

"Can I stay with Daphne for a few days?"

"I'll ask her."

"No, you got it wrong." Anouk was serious. "I'll talk to Daphne myself. I mean, can you crash somewhere else for a few days? I want some alone time with her."

Daphne was calm, not very expressive, but fiercely independent and persistent.

A girl like that gave a strong sense of security.

Henry didn't even think before saying, "No way."

Anouk just loved the proposal scene too much. If they really lived together, he'd lose his wife for sure!

"What's it to you?" Anouk dismissed him with a wave.

Henry felt a pang of hurt.

"I haven't been with Daphne for long," Benjamin said, playing the pity card. "If I move out now, she might get used to being alone and not want me back."

"Exactly," Henry chimed in. "That's a real issue."

"No worries. If that happens, I'll help you win her back," Anouk promised.

Benjamin knew the pity card wasn't working anymore.

He carefully chose his words and called her, "Mom."

"Yes?"

"Daphne's my girlfriend. Even if you're my mom, I'm not giving her up." Benjamin's voice was firm, and he glanced at Henry. "That one over there is yours."

Anouk glanced at Henry, then looked away. The difference was clear!

Anouk handed the phone back to Benjamin and asked him to send her the video.

Seeing this, Henry saw his chance. He grabbed his tablet, searched social media, and handed it over, showing all the sky images of Daphne proposing to Benjamin. "Here are more direct shots of the proposal."

Anouk took one look and declined, "I can't see Daphne."
