Chapter 52 His Regret Had No Chance to Manifest.
"Where did these come from?" she asked. She wasn't interested in Kayla's affairs. But since Evan showed her this, it meant that he had something more to tell her.
"They were given to me by a business partner," Evan told her directly, without withholding any information. "They said someone approached them to release a press release and asked them to create a story based on these photos."
Daphne's brows furrowed imperceptibly. Kayla was a model. She had known this before, but Kayla lacked ambition and only wanted to take shortcuts. As a result, she had yet to gain fame. But being unknown didn't mean that people wouldn't pay attention once negative news circulated. Even if you were an ordinary person, once you became a hot topic because of something bad, netizens could dig up your personal information and expose it all.
"Do you want to go back to Gedser?" Evan spoke up when he felt she had a general idea. "There's a flight in the early morning, and there are still tickets available."
Daphne tilted her head in confusion. "What for?"
"If my guess is correct, Charles already knows that you possess hacking skills," Evan wholeheartedly considered Daphne's situation. "Once Kayla's scandal breaks, the first person he will suspect is you."
"He would suspect me even more if I left," Daphne understood.
Evan looked at her. Daphne gave him a definite answer. "He has falsely accused me more than once. Whether I'm in Gedser or here, as long as he suspects me, trouble will find its way to me."
Not to mention, she was still waiting to receive her divorce certificate. She used to feel that time flew by quickly, and a year would pass in the blink of an eye. Now, however, she felt time moved slowly. In less than thirty days, she had experienced the sensation of several years passing.
"Do you need me to find the person behind the scenes for you?" Evan had some connections and abilities in this area.
"No need." Daphne had researched the information on Kayla's accident in the afternoon.
"Even if you manage to find them, it doesn't necessarily mean they're the mastermind."
Evan paused for a moment. "What do you mean?"
"Do you remember when Kayla had her accident and I was framed?" Daphne had mentioned this before during their casual conversation. "This afternoon, I went through the details of the whole incident and discovered something suspicious. The evidence ultimately pointed to Charles' competitor in the commercial sector. He orchestrated Kayla's accident and framed me simply because he wanted to witness the melodrama of Charles' family."
There was a hint of surprise on his face. At the same time, in another private room of this bar, the topic was also being discussed. Charles, Austin, and Samuel exclaimed and provided a thorough account of the evidence Daphne had uncovered.
After hearing Charles' words, Austin smirked mischievously, maintaining his nonchalant demeanor. "You actually believe this kind of evidence?" Charles looked over at him.
Austin expressed his own interpretation. "You said she's a hacker. It would be effortless for her to fake evidence. Besides, wouldn't her competitors in the market take advantage of such an opportunity?"
"And your cunning wife immediately resorts to fabricating evidence like this." Austin added.
Charles' lips curled slightly. "As you mentioned, she is not skilled at producing convincing fakes."
Given Daphne's character, if she truly wanted to fabricate evidence, she would undoubtedly come up with a flawless excuse. This was clearly not right.
"What does the police say about this?" Samuel, who had been silent all along, finally spoke.
"They haven't responded yet. It seems difficult to apprehend her." Charles' gaze darkened slightly. He had never imagined that Kayla's situation would be involved to such an extent. "Although we have the recorded conversations and chat logs, if the police insist it was just a joke, it won't be easy to make a judgement."
"Alright, was it necessary for the two of us to be called out for such a minor issue?" Austin poured a glass of wine. "You should just ensure that the bodyguards protect Kayla well from now on."
In his opinion, Charles had shared all this to prevent anyone from targeting Kayla again. Samuel also spoke up, "Are you really planning to divorce Daphne?"
"What kind of remark is that?" Austin raised an eyebrow lazily, leaning against the sofa. "His crush has returned, so wouldn't divorcing Daphne be the only way for someone else to make his crush happy?"
"This is not a childish game." Samuel believed that Charles' actions were problematic and pointed it out as a friend. "If you're divorcing Daphne only because Kayla has returned, I don't support it."
Before Charles could respond, Austin immediately chimed in, "Samuel, are you okay?"
"Your relationship with Daphne has always been stable, which shows that you are compatible." Samuel continued without paying attention to him, "Have you ever considered whether you like Kayla because of the past feelings or because of who she is as a person?"
Sometimes, not being able to let go of a relationship is not because we still love that person, but because we care about the parts of ourselves that we invested in that relationship.
"Do you really understand her?" Charles suddenly blurted out.
Samuel couldn't keep up, "What?"
"You said Daphne and I are compatible, but where is the compatibility?" Charles spoke with a hint of coldness, clearly feeling that he was not in the right state. "The past two years of marriage seemed peaceful and harmonious, but it was all a facade she put on."
Samuel couldn't understand anymore. Charles stood up, getting angry as soon as Daphne was mentioned, saying, "Her true nature has been exposed since the divorce. Her personality is completely different from before."
"Are you really getting divorced? Won't you regret it?" Samuel asked, his warm eyes looking over. As a friend, Samuel could tell that Daphne meant something different to Charles. He was usually composed, but when it came to Daphne, he was like dynamite, ready to explode at any moment.
Charles really wanted to laugh at this remark. He faced this question for the first time and replied, "Why would I regret it?"
"Daphne is a special girl," Samuel didn't know how to explain, so he simply said that.
"What you all see is what she wants you to see," Charles couldn't help but throw out these words in frustration. "I know what kind of person she is better than anyone."
Why did everyone think he would regret it? He knew far more about Daphne than they did. Charles continued, as if telling him and himself, "I won't regret the divorce."
"Okay," Samuel replied with just one word. He was waiting for Charles to regret it.
No, he probably won't even have a chance to regret it. Thinking about this, Samuel gave his brother another hint, "Not regretting is the best. Based on the short time I've spent with Daphne, she's not someone who will reconcile. It's perfect timing for both of you to go your separate ways."
“Is he intentionally trying to provoke me?” Charles wondered.
