Chapter 683 The Hypothetical Question Doesn't Exist

Diana opened her mouth, "Lon..."

For so many years, Diana never thought that the person Lon liked was her. Their relationship was clearly like that of siblings.

"How about giving it a try and dating me?" Lon continued to fight for his chance, his eyes burning with intensity. "If you still don't like me, I won't interfere with any of your decisions afterward."

"Sorry," Diana spoke very bluntly.

Lon had long known this would be the answer. His heart ached slightly, but he forced a smile and pretended to be relaxed. "Because of Caspian?"

"Yes." Diana nodded.

"I met you before he did, and I've spent more time with you than he has." Lon pressed for an answer, he really wanted to know. "Why did you choose him over me in the end?"

It was said that the one who came later in a relationship was more likely to lose, but Lon and Diana had met so much earlier.

"Maybe it's a distance thing?" Diana wasn't entirely sure herself and just spoke her mind. "We've always been like siblings, playing together since we were kids, but I've seen Caspian very few times so far."

In other words, Diana was too familiar with Lon, so much so that as they grew up, she saw him as a brother, like her own sibling.

Caspian, on the other hand, disappeared from Diana's life during their teenage years, making her miss him and unknowingly develop feelings for him.

"What if you were with Caspian every day and had less contact with me?" Lon countered.

Diana scratched her head, unsure how to answer this question. "It's just a hypothesis."

"You would still choose him, wouldn't you?" Lon voiced his own guess.

Diana nodded honestly. "Probably."

If the roles were reversed, wouldn't it be like her relationship with Noe?

As they grew up, Noe played with them less and less. Later on, unless Louis was around, he wouldn't show up.

But Diana had no emotional fluctuations about him, she just saw him as a childhood playmate.

"Shouldn't you be comforting me right now?" Lon tried to lighten the mood, raising his hand to ruffle her hair.

Diana didn't know how to handle this situation. After all, the person confessing to her was none other than Lon, someone she had cared about deeply since childhood.

"Are you planning to draw a line with me?" Lon saw her silent and still used a relatively relaxed tone. "Never to interact again?"

"How could that be?" Diana couldn't distance herself from someone who had been good to her for over a decade just because of a confession. "Whether you said it or not today, in my heart, you're still the closest person to me besides Louis."

Of course, this was limited to people of the same age.

Lon's gaze fell on her, and he let out a long sigh, covering his chest. "My heart hurts."

"What's wrong?" Diana instinctively showed concern. She didn't remember Lon having any heart problems. "Do you need to go to the hospital?"

"This illness can't be cured by a hospital." Lon said slowly, very seriously. "Only you can cure it."

"Lon..." Diana's guilt surged again.

If it were someone else confessing to her, she would have directly but considerately rejected them, thanked them for their feelings, and moved on without any psychological burden.

But Lon had been so good to her since childhood. Rejecting him made her feel bad too.

Lon raised his hand and gently pinched her nose, still in that doting tone. "I was just joking with you, and you took it seriously."

With that, Diana understood.

"Alright, I won't tease you anymore." Lon suppressed his emotions, maintaining the gentle and meticulous demeanor of an older brother. "One last question."

Diana's attitude was very serious. "Go ahead."

"Can we go back to the way we were?" Lon asked nervously.

"Yes." Diana nodded and shared her thoughts. "But I hope in the future, you can let go of your feelings for me. There are so many better girls out there, you'll definitely find the one for you."

"Okay," Lon agreed.

Lon offered to drive her back, and Diana didn't refuse. She just sent a message to Louis before leaving.

The two of them were silent in the car, in stark contrast to the bustling night outside.

On the surface, nothing seemed to have changed between them, but they both knew that after this confession, they could never go back to the way things were before.

At the very least, Diana would no longer actively ask Lon for help.

Their relationship was still the same, but with subtle differences.

Diana didn't say it, but Lon could feel it.

"Diana." Lon felt the pressure in the car and decided to start a conversation.

Diana turned her head slightly. "Yes?"

"Is there any reason you chose Caspian over me that has to do with looks?" Lon glanced at her. "After all, you've always liked good-looking people since you were a kid."

Diana blurted out, "Of course not."

She did like good-looking people, but in matters like this, she mainly followed her feelings.

"A bit of a pity." Lon pretended to sigh.

Diana blinked in confusion. "What do you mean?"

"I was thinking if it was because of looks, I could get some plastic surgery and try again." Lon joked, hoping to help her relax.

"What kind of plastic surgery do you need?" Diana blurted out. "It is the most unreliable thing."

In today's world, many people got plastic surgery, but most did it to make themselves more beautiful. If it was to please someone else, it would be unnecessary.

"Just kidding, why so serious?" Lon smiled. "You've been so quiet all the way. I'm the one who got rejected, and I'm not even sad. Why are you feeling down?"

"I feel guilty," Diana said.

Hurting someone she cared about deeply was a very, very painful thing.

Her emotions were no less intense than Lon's, who had been rejected.

"We agreed to go back to the way things were. Are you going back on your word so soon?" Lon held the steering wheel, deliberately saying light-hearted things to reassure her. "If you really feel guilty, then help me find a girlfriend later so I won't be pressured to get married."

"Okay," Diana agreed.
