Chapter 202 Planning to Meet with Sean

Realizing that he was genuinely upset, Edwin decided to refrain from exacerbating the situation.

As they walked on, just after rounding the corner of the corridor on their way to the entertainment areas, they caught sight of Daphne and Evan chatting leisurely in the lounge to the left.

Charles' suddenly stopped in his tracks.

His gaze landed on Daphne, and all he could see was the ease in her expression that she wore when facing Evan.

"What are you looking at?" Edwin inquired, following Charles's gaze and upon spotting Daphne and Evan, commented, "Surprised to see Evan here mingling."

"How did you chase after Valencia?" Charles abruptly broke the silence. Edwin choked. He suspected Charles was purposely trying to get under his skin today.

"Sorry, forgot you're unrequited right now," Charles suddenly realized his insensitivity and quickly added, "You haven't won her over."

Edwin wanted to lash out at that point. He was about to retort that Charles was also single when he saw him heading toward Evan's direction.

Frowning, uncertain of Charles's intentions, Edwin followed.

While Daphne and Evan were discussing trivial matters, Daphne suddenly felt someone approach. Glancing sideways, she saw Charles standing next to her.

The moment she saw him, her brow furrowed involuntarily. Before she could utter a word, Charles took her hand and led her toward the lawn outside.

"What are you doing?" Daphne asked in return.

Just as Evan was about to stand up, Edwin, catching Charles's subtle hint, effortlessly struck up a conversation, seamlessly executing the diversion between the two men.

Without a word, Charles tugged at Daphne's hand, disregarding the stares from the others around them. This series of actions attracted the attention of everyone present.

Even those who had not seen Charles in person had likely seen his photographs. Rumors circulated about his aloofness towards women and a certain distant demeanor, yet at the singles mingle, he surprised everyone by taking a woman by the hand and leading her away.

Daphne had intended to break free from his hold..

However, with the crowded surroundings, and she hesitated to attract unwanted attention, nor did she want to be made a spectacle like a monkey in a show. Charles was aware of this, which was why he held her hand as they crossed through the crowd to the empty lawn outside.

Once they were alone and out of sight, Charles released her just before she managed to shake him off.

"Are you looking for someone with Evan?" Charles asked, his tone repressive.

Daphne didn't want to prolong the conversation, "It's none of your business."

"You can't be with him now," Charles blurted out with the seriousness of a courtroom prosecutor. "If you're with Evan, that guy won't target you."

He knew he was the one being targeted, but judging by Daphne's previous reactions, she had an issue with that person.

Daphne was brooding. "Do you think I have to work with you to catch him?" she asked.

"No," he replied.

"Then what do you mean?" Faced with Daphne's counter-question, Charles didn't know what to say.

He didn't know what to talk about with Daphne, how to communicate with her, or even how to face her. But he just wanted to be a part of her life.

Just standing there watching her casually talk with Evan stirred jealousy in his heart. He longed to sit next to her like before and ask what she and Evan were talking about.

But now, he had no right to pry into her affairs.

The only thing that linked them was the dangerous person behind Kayla.

"Why are you here," he asked, dodging her question and changing the subject.

Daphne didn't reply, maintaining an indifferent demeanor throughout, her aura distancing her thousands of miles from anyone.

Such conversations left a weight on Charles's heart.

Yet, even so, he still wanted to be with Daphne.

It seemed as if only by being with her could his aching heart rest for a moment. Even if it was painful, it was better than nothing at all.

The two remained in a standstill, neither opening their mouths again. Time passed without measure. Daphne wasn't fond of the tense atmosphere and without a word, got up to leave.

Charles caught hold of her arm.

"What exactly do you want to do?" Daphne didn't understand his behavior.

Charles, still not letting go, looked at her with dark, deep eyes, "You haven't answered my question."

"Find someone," Daphne threw the words at him like they were sharp objects.

"With Evan?" he asked, a hint of jealousy in his tone.

"I have no reason to tell you," she retorted.

"If you don't tell me, I'll show up at your house every day to propose," Charles blurted out, not knowing from where the idea came from. "You can keep me out, but eventually, the whole town of Gedser will know."

Daphne turned around. She couldn't comprehend when Charles had become such a nuisance.

When Charles saw the rejection and dissatisfaction in her eyes, it was like a stab in the heart, but he still did not let her go.

"Not with Evan," Daphne said plainly not wanting to get into a meaningless argument. "It was Murphy who sent me here."

The furrow in Charles's brow deepened. Before he could probe further, Daphne removed his hand with her other hand.

She wasn't angry, just spoke to him with an aloof tone, “I don't know what you’re really trying to pull off here, but if it’s just to deceive that guy, you don’t have to go to such lengths. I’ll have Kayla lie to them.”

After all, Kayla was that person’s informant on this side. Whatever Kayla said, the other side would believe. At least, that was the case for now.

“I've got to go,” Daphne announced her departure.

This time Charles didn’t try to stop her, simply watched as she returned to the inside. He stood there for a long time until Edwin came to find him, and only then did his thoughts start to gather back.

“What’s wrong with you?” Edwin, noticing his odd expression, asked.

Charles didn’t go into detail with Edwin, instead, he asked in a very casual tone, “Do you know much about the Murphy from the Murphy family?”

“Lydie’s Murphy?”Edwin repeated, confused.

“Yeah,”Charles confirmed.

“Not much.” Edwin didn't tease him but instead shared, “I hear he's quite a traditional old man who likes to have the younger ones do things his way. Why do you ask?”

“It’s nothing.” Charles had already made up his mind, “I'm heading back.”

“What am I supposed to do if you go?” Edwin was instantly annoyed. They had made a deal to stick together, yet here Charles was bailing out on him halfway through. Was this how ‘brothers’ behaved?

Charles couldn’t care less.

He left his car for Edwin and walked out, making a call to Mark to pick him up.

Once Mark had fetched him, Charles immediately assigned him a task, “Find a time to arrange a meeting with Murphy.”

Mark paused.
