Chapter 67 Kayla's Lies Exposed

"What more intimate things?" Charles's voice had never been so heavy, his black eyes swirling with barely suppressed emotions.

Kayla was half-propped up on the hospital bed, her hand that had removed the IV drip tightening slightly: "Rex put his hand inside Daphne's clothes."

"Fuck!"

The word slipped out of Rex's mouth.

Daphne looked over at him.

The anger that was clearly there was mitigated by his outburst, adding a touch of humor to the situation.

"Why don't you say that Daphne and I just made a person right there in the car?" Rex was quite good at retorting, "I've never seen such blatant lying with open eyes."

"Rex!" Charles snapped coldly.

Rex smirked, thinking of Daphne's reaction and retorted, "What, do you believe her?"

Charles said nothing.

Watching him defend Daphne, a sense of suffocation grew in his heart.

"Charles, it's possible they just got carried away in the moment," Kayla clung to Charles's sleeve, her beautiful eyes filled with concern, "Miss Murphy might be resenting the relationship between you and me, so she acted out."

"Don't blame her," Kayla added.

Daphne and Rex remained silent.

The two stood there, waiting for Charles's reaction and response.

Charles's hands at his sides tightened and then tightened again, finally only asking in a hoarse voice, "Are you sure you saw that?"

"Sure," Kayla nodded.

"Didn't see it wrong?"

"No."

After Kayla spoke, Charles stood there in silence for a long time.

In that moment.

The three of them couldn't fathom his thoughts.

"Charles, since you're going to divorce Daphne and be with her, why not just make us happy?" Rex, always one for stirring up trouble, said, "I'll definitely treat Daphne better than you, and grandfather won't object either."

"Shut up!" Charles was emanating a chill.

Kayla finally felt a bit of relief in her heart.

This idiot Rex had admitted it himself; Daphne's excuses would be useless.

Her words had taken effect.

Charles's gaze fell on the silent Daphne, a mix of complex emotions entwined: "Aren't you going to explain?"

"Is there a need for an explanation?" Daphne couldn't be bothered.

"Daphne!"

"I say there's nothing between me and Rex, and today's car accident was just Kayla rushing to get hit. Do you believe me?" Daphne's gaze met his.

As her words fell, the entire ward was so quiet that not a sound could be heard.

Kayla had already envisioned the scene where Daphne and Charles would completely fall out.

No man could accept being cuckolded, especially by the two people closest to him.

"Char..." She had only said half of it.

Charles spoke, his voice chillingly cold: "I believe."

Daphne: "?"

Kayla stiffened all over.

Her eyes showed a moment of panic, a sense of dread spreading in her heart, and she instinctively reached for Charles's hand: "Charles, I didn't lie, she and Rex really..."

"Do you know who Rex is?" Charles's demeanor grew tired, the pressure around him exceedingly low.

Kayla instinctively looked towards Rex.

Before she could speak, Charles said, "He's my brother, who would lay down his life for me."

"Charles..."

"Even if he's not good to anyone else, he wouldn't do anything to betray me," Charles's black eyes stared at her, his words devoid of warmth.

Kayla was truly panicked now: "Charles, I really didn't deceive you, they were really in the car..."

"Enough!" Charles's anger reached a boiling point.

Kayla trembled all over.

Charles hadn't expected the person he had always trusted to turn out like this: "Did you think I would believe anything you said about Daphne?"

Kayla's face turned pale.

"Rex would never betray me, and neither would Daphne," Charles was truly angry, the fury in his heart nearly uncontrollable, "You shouldn't have slandered her with such accusations."

Daphne was somewhat bewildered.

She had prepared herself for a litany of accusations today.

But the tables had turned.

"Is Charles's head not quite right today?" Daphne pointed to her head, whispering to Rex.

"You should say that today is the only day his head has been right," Rex smirked, as if he had anticipated this outcome, "He's been blinded by crap before."

Daphne: "......"

"Charles." Rex suddenly called him.

Charles looked at him with a chilling aura, his heart never expecting Kayla to become what she was now, when she used to be such an innocent person.

Rex, never one to shy away from making things worse, asked, "Is the child in her stomach yours?"

"What child?" Charles looked up.

"I was driving Daphne home when she rushed up to extort me at a turn," Rex explained the situation, "She was hit and had a miscarriage, the doctor said the child was gone."

Charles's gaze fell on Kayla.

Rex continued to ask, "Is it yours?"

"No," Charles answered quickly, without a moment's hesitation.

He had never been intimate with Kayla; there couldn't possibly be a child.

Kayla realized that things were not progressing in the direction she had planned, her panic reaching a peak, her mind racing with ways to spin the story.

"How come you never mentioned you were pregnant?" Charles asked her.

"I didn't dare to say..." Kayla's eyes suddenly reddened, her hands clutching her knees as she curled up on the bed, "I was afraid you would despise me, not want me anymore..."

She buried her head in her knees, sobbing.

To the uninformed observer, it looked like she had suffered a great injustice.

"Charles, I'm sorry," she repeated over and over.

"Was it that time at the hotel?"

"Yes..."

Charles's eyes showed no change, he simply asked, "Why did you fabricate a story about Daphne, and in such a way that would tarnish her reputation?"

"I was afraid that if you knew I was pregnant with someone else's child, you would reject me, thinking Daphne was purer than me," Kayla cried as if her heart was breaking, "I'm tainted, sorry... sorry..."

She was immersed in despair and sorrow.

Charles, remembering what she had been through, although he had put those who bullied her in jail, knew the scars needed time to heal.

"I haven't abandoned you," Charles tried to put himself in her shoes, "But you were wrong in this matter, apologize to Daphne and Rex."

"I'm sorry Daphne, I'm sorry Rex," Kayla apologized quickly, her attitude seemed sincere, "I was wrong, I'm sorry."

Daphne: "......"

Kayla had truly mastered the art of holding onto a man.

Compared to her usual refusal to admit wrong after being blamed, Kayla's prompt confession and quick apology were much more effective in capturing someone's heart.

Not to mention Charles's existing favoritism towards Kayla.
