Chapter 447 Fight

Charles was freakin' out that Brian might spill the beans to Daphne. He didn't wanna mess up her life any more.

"Benjamin ain't gonna lay a finger on me," Brian said, trying to keep his cool while talking to Charles. "Starting today, if you don't start taking care of yourself, I'm telling her everything."

"Brian," Charles snapped, clearly pissed.

Brian locked eyes with him. As the ex-heir of a big-shot family, he wasn't exactly a pushover, but he felt a bit guilty about his plan.

"I get it, man. You don't wanna drag Daphne into your mess," Brian said, switching tactics. "But if you keep this up, your folks are gonna find out. They'll get Daphne to talk some sense into you."

Charles's eyes turned icy. He was sure Hayden and Laura wouldn't bug Daphne, but eventually, she'd hear about it.

He had no clue how Daphne felt about him now.

All he knew was he couldn't let her find out.

"If you even think about telling her, I'll spill the beans to your parents about you and Richard," Charles threatened for the first time. "And I'll make sure everyone in your circle knows about you two."

If people found out about Richard and Brian, they'd be caught in a whirlwind of gossip.

Something would definitely go down.

Knowing Brian, he wouldn't let Richard go through that.

"Do what you want. I don't care," Brian shot back, cool as a cucumber. "When I bailed on the family, I told them it was 'cause of Richard. Spread it around, I don't mind. Let 'em know Richard's mine, it'll just shut some people up."

Charles was taken aback. "Aren't you worried about screwing up Richard's future?"

He suddenly felt like he didn't know Brian at all.

"If this was five years ago, yeah, it would've been a problem. But times have changed," Brian said confidently. "Richard and I are big deals now. No one wants to mess with us."

When they were nobody, gossip could crash them. But when they were on top, people shut up real quick.

Richard didn't need to be a doctor to make bank anymore, and neither did Brian. Public opinion? Who would care. Brian would always have Richard's back.

"Take care of yourself, man," Brian said seriously. "I'm older than you. I've been through this crap."

When he was forced to split from Richard, his life was hell, but he made it through.

"Get out," Charles ordered.

"Eat breakfast first," Brian insisted, making it clear he wasn't leaving. "If you don't eat, I'm calling Daphne right now."

Charles's glare could freeze water, but Brian didn't budge. After a long stare-down, Charles was about to walk out.

He made it clear he wasn't gonna eat if he didn't feel like it, and he wasn't gonna cave to Brian's threats.

But Brian was ready to go the distance today.

As soon as Charles started walking, Brian whipped out his phone and called Daphne, putting it on speaker. The ringtone echoed through the empty living room.

"How many seconds you think it'll take for Daphne to pick up?" Brian drawled.

Charles froze, like he'd been nailed to the floor.

The phone kept ringing, and Brian stayed silent, betting Charles would make the right call.

On the sixth ring, Daphne answered.

Charles tensed up the moment he heard her voice.

Daphne's tone was as cool as ever, showing her relationship with Brian was pretty basic. "What do you want?"

"I need your help with a security system," Brian said, giving Charles a way out without spilling the beans. "It needs to be better than the Lancelot Group's. Name your price."

"Not interested," Daphne shot back, blunt as ever.

He had the nerve to bring up the Lancelot Group. If he hadn't been so reckless before, she wouldn't have had so many issues with Charles.

They would've had fewer complications from the start. After that, she hung up, clearly done with the convo.

Brian expected that. Holding the dead phone, he turned to Charles, "Still not gonna eat breakfast?"

"Is this some kind of game to you?" Charles snapped.

"What?" Brian asked, playing dumb.

Charles was done with Brian's crap. "Get out. The deal's off, and I'll tear up the contract right in front of you. Go back to Gedser now."

"I ain't leaving until your heart's fixed," Brian said firmly.

He wanted to go back too, but it was pointless now.

Richard had bought a ticket and left Gedser a month ago, and Daphne had personally hidden his whereabouts. Brian couldn't find him even if he tried.

Until his guys brought news of Richard, he had no plans to leave Ivrea City.

Charles's eyes got even colder as he warned, "Brian, you know my patience is running thin."

"I know, but I've got patience to spare," Brian said with a casual grin, not fazed by Charles's icy stare. "Worst case, I'll tell Daphne about your condition. I won't lose much, and it seems you won't either."

"Maybe Daphne will feel guilty and get back with you because of it," Brian said, pushing buttons.

Charles's fists clenched at his sides, and Brian noticed.

Charles had been bottling up his feelings since the incident. Except for getting wasted once, he hadn't let anything out.

Long-term suppression could mess with your head, and with his disregard for his health, something was bound to give if he didn't let it out.

To really piss Charles off, Brian kept poking, "Why don't you fake a terminal illness? Then I can tell Daphne you've been feeling guilty and regretful about the past, haven't been resting or eating well, and now you've got stomach cancer. We can get your parents to help, saying your last wish is to spend some peaceful days with her. Maybe then, out of guilt, Daphne will dump Benjamin and come back to you."

Charles swung at him without a second thought.

Brian saw it coming and quickly raised his hand to block the punch.
