Chapter 173 Daffy Prefers Softer Soup

Daphne looked at him for a while, ‘What was going on today?’

Charles also found Gavin's behavior odd, but he said nothing more, merely pointing out where the bathroom was.

Once Gavin left, it was just Daphne and Charles standing there in silence. While other pairs might have been engulfed in an awkward atmosphere, but the way Daphne and Charles stood, there was an undeniable chemistry between them.

After heading to the restroom, Gavin pulled out his phone and sent Daphne a WhatsApp message.

Gavin: [Daffy, do me a favor, please ask Charles to delete the surveillance footage from last night.]

Gavin: [Just this one time after it's done, I promise I'll do anything you say. Is that okay, Daffy?]

After sending the messages, Gavin started to wait.

Daffy would usually respond as soon as she saw his messages. But he waited for one minute, two minutes, three minutes... five minutes, and still, Daphne hadn't replied.

He sent another message.

Gavin: [Daffy, did you see the message?]

On her end, Daphne wasn't paying any attention to her phone. She usually set her phone to silent mode in the evenings, so she didn't see any of the messages Gavin had sent, nor did she play with her phone.

Seeing that quite some time had passed, Charles spoke to Daphne, "Would you like to go sit in the living room for a while? You probably have to wait a bit longer."

"Sure," Daphne responded indifferently.

They both sat down on the couch, just sitting there, doing nothing.

Charles didn't try to make conversation on purpose. He knew Daphne just wanted to leave and wasn't interested in any topic he might bring up, so he didn't disturb her.

Another five minutes passed. There still was no sign of Gavin coming out.

Daphne frowned, wondering if Gavin was purposely taking too long in the bathroom.

Just as she was about to pull out her phone to message someone, the bathroom door opened, and Gavin came out looking distressed.

Daphne was puzzled and wondered what could’ve happened.

Seeing the two sitting on the couch, Gavin felt a sense of resignation. Just as he thought, Daffy's phone was put on silent mode!

"Sorry to interrupt, but we have to go," Daphne stood up and distantly said to Charles, moving towards Gavin.

Charles also stood up to leave.

Gavin, however, stood still, not moving. He gestured frantically with his eyebrows at Daphne, signaling her to check her phone.

Daphne didn't catch on to what he meant and said, "What's wrong?"

Gavin was at a loss. Why was Daffy usually so clever about things, but seemed to be so clueless when it came to him? All he could do was sigh.

"There's something I need you to take care of," Gavin pulled Daphne aside and muttered to Charles.

Normally, it wouldn't be polite to whisper in front of others at their house. But in Gavin's mind, after last night's incident, he had already dismissed Charles as an outsider.

Daphne was as uninterested as ever, "What is it?"

"I need your ex to delete last night's surveillance footage," Gavin whispered urgently, embarrassment evident in his tone, "I can't have that embarrassing incident recorded. What if he keeps it and threatens me with it?"

Daphne was speechless. Daphne declared with certainty, “He's not like that.”

“Please just help me out,” Gavin pleaded, anxiety bubbling up uncontrollably, “If it’s not deleted, it’ll consume my thoughts forever, and I won’t be able to focus at work.”

Daphne stared at him.

Gavin started to act all cutely, like a domesticated kitten vying for attention.

Daphne had always had more patience for good-looking people and objects, and since Gavin was her colleague and a cousin, she agreed to help.

“I can only talk to him. If he doesn't agree to delete it, we can't force him,” Daphne said, laying the ground rules.

Gavin nodded in agreement.

From his perspective, Charles's reactions today had made it quite apparent that he had special feelings for Daffy. Gavin was convinced that whatever Daphne would ask, Charles would surely do it!

A frown briefly crossed Daphne’s brow as she deliberated, before finally turning to face Charles, trying to decide how to broach the subject.

Charles noticed her demeanor and proactively asked, “Something on your mind?”

“Yes, there is one thing,” she started.

“Go ahead,” he responded.

There was a certain aloofness about Charles, but his eyes seemed to flicker with an unusual intensity as he looked at Daphne.

Daphne met his gaze and got straight to the point, “Could you please delete the surveillance footage from last night?”

Upon hearing this, Charles's gaze instinctively fell on Gavin.

Gavin tried to appear calm, but his mind was a whirlwind of emotions.

What did Charles's look mean? Could it be that he would leverage this incident against Daffy? If he used this as a threat, should he comply?

The moment this question surfaced; Gavin had already firmly decided that he would not agree!

Neither Charles nor Daphne could have fathomed that within a mere couple of seconds, Gavin had already conjured up a soap opera scenario in his head.

“Okay,” Charles’s voice resonated with an alluring depth, his eyes still on Daphne as he added a condition, “But I have one request.”

Gavin was startled. He knew it! There just had to be a catch.

Daphne sensed Gavin’s emotional shift but chose not to dwell on his overreaction. She remained calm as she spoke with Charles, “What’s your condition?”

“Finish the soup for dinner,” Charles said, choosing his words carefully.

He hadn’t forgotten Gavin’s reaction when he asked them earlier if they had had their dinner. Charles had intended to have Mark offer it to Daphne after she had left for the day, knowing well that she wouldn't have accepted it otherwise.

Now, the opportunity presented itself, and he was determined to make her eat it.

Before Daphne could respond, Gavin, somewhat baffled, repeated, “Dinner?”

“Yes,” Charles confirmed.

“Eat it!” Gavin asserted decisively.

As Daphne was about to tug Gavin's arm, he spoke up with an easy grin, "As long as Mr. Lancelot can delete last night's surveillance footage, it's not just the soup we can handle. We would also be willing to stay the night here.”

“Gavin,” Daphne said, calling out his name, flabbergasted.

Gavin froze a bit as if someone had pressed the pause button.

Goodness gracious. What did he just say? "Just kidding, Mr. Lancelot. Don't take it seriously," he quickly added.

Charles, with a polite expression, simply hummed in acknowledgment and took out his phone to call Mark, asking him to bring up the soup.

Within a minute or two, Mark had arrived.

As the soup was placed on the table, Gavin was about to eat when Charles moved the soup bowl in front of him to Daphne, casually adding, "This soup is on the softer side; Mr. Murphy might not be used to it."

Gavin paused, looking at Charles with a touch of emotion in his gaze. He was moved by Charles's attentiveness to Daphne.

Everyone knew Daphne wasn't picky and would eat anything, but there was one thing only he knew that even his uncle and Lydia had found out from him.

And that was Daphne had liked her soup to be on the softer side.
