Chapter 253 Discovered
"Does anyone have anything to add?" Daphne asked the others.
Everyone thought for a moment. "No."
"You've planned for almost every possibility; there are two backup plans ready to go," Emma affirmed Daphne's intelligence. "There won't be any surprises."
"There's one scenario I haven't considered," Daphne admitted.
They had dealt with that person before, so they knew his personality and his way of doing things.
However, neither Daphne nor anyone else could fully understand him.
Evan asked, "What is it?"
"The possibility that he might want to go down with us," Daphne said after a moment of silence.
"No way."
"He's more afraid of death than anyone."
"Whether he would or not, considering it doesn't help much," Dominic said seriously, "If he really changes his personality and becomes reckless, no amount of planning will be effective."
That person was also very smart.
Daphne nodded, acknowledging this point. "There's another question."
Dominic said, "Go ahead."
"How could Charles, a businessman, have a grudge against him?" This was something Daphne still couldn't figure out. "Why is he targeting Charles?"
According to Kayla, this man initially wanted to destroy Lancelot Group and make Charles fail in his career.
When that didn't work, he wanted to kill Charles.
What kind of deep-seated hatred did they have?
"Only he would know," Zoey said, resting her chin on her hand, also puzzled.
Daphne was about to emphasize again that their primary premise was to protect their lives; if they couldn't catch him, they should give up. there was a knock on the door.
Daphne and everyone on the tablet video call fell silent.
Just as Daphne was about to ask who it was, Benjamin's voice came from outside. "Daphne."
Everyone was stunned.
It was Benjamin!
Daphne quickly ended the call, turned off the tablet, hid the documents, and then got up to open the door.
Seeing the person standing outside, she felt a bit nervous. "Benjamin? Didn't you go back?"
She had only let Kevin and Evan come over after Benjamin had left.
Why was he back?
"I remembered I forgot something and came back to get it," Benjamin said, his eyes scanning her face before looking behind her.
Daphne cautiously closed the door and stepped outside.
She looked at him and asked directly, "What do you need?"
"What were you discussing with Kevin and Evan?" Benjamin asked without giving her a chance to prepare.
Daphne said, "What?"
Benjamin said, "Evan's car is in the parking lot."
She wanted to come up with an excuse, but then remembered that Benjamin was very smart. No matter how convincing her lie sounded, he would detect it.
"We weren't talking about anything important." she maintained her calm demeanor.
Benjamin, with one hand in his pocket, no longer had the lazy look he usually did. At this moment, he seemed to revert to the cold, iron-blooded drill instructor.
His intense gaze bore into Daphne. "You weren't talking about anything important, but you needed to call Dominic too?"
Daphne felt uneasy.
How could he hear that?
"Benjamin."
"Benjamin."
Kevin and Evan also came out from inside.
Benjamin stepped inside, his eyes scanning the room before settling on a spot. He walked over and pulled out a stack of documents.
Daphne, Evan, and Kevin closed their eyes.
It was over.
There was one thing they had to admit, even if they didn't want to.
In a small space with few hiding spots, Benjamin and they would choose the same hiding place.
The best hiding spot.
It was one of the lessons they learned during training.
"What is this?" Benjamin placed the stack of documents on the table, tapping it with his long fingers. "Do you not know what kind of person Michael Garcia is? Are you going to confront him without weapons or equipment? Are you not afraid of dying?"
Benjamin was very angry.
He never expected them to hide this from him.
"We are prepared." Daphne knew his personality and decided to negotiate. "Our plan is very thorough."
"Wasn't the last lesson enough?" Benjamin's eyes were cold, and the atmosphere around him was freezing. "You are not going."
"Benjamin!" Daphne's voice rose slightly.
Benjamin wanted to scold them like before, but looking at Daphne, he couldn't bear it.
He turned his head to suppress his anger before speaking again. "It's non-negotiable."
Daphne said, "But..."
Benjamin added, "If you insist on going, wait until I get the report approved."
Hearing this, Daphne and the others were stunned.
"Even though I'm retired, due to my previous position, I can't leave the country for a few years," Benjamin explained. He didn't want to see them walk into danger. "I need to apply for approval to leave the country."
"But it's already too late," Daphne said reluctantly.
Benjamin's anger flared up again. "Daphne."
Daphne said, "I'm here."
Benjamin asked, "Can't you just behave?"
"It's really too late." Daphne knew his situation, which was why she didn't want him to know. "Why don't you take a look at the plan first?"
Benjamin's eyes were cold, but he still picked up the documents and read them word by word.
The more he read, the darker his eyes became.
Finally, he asked a question Daphne had asked before. "How did Charles get involved with Justin?"
"I don't know," Daphne answered honestly, "But this is indeed a good opportunity for us to act. Justin doesn't know my identity. To him, I'm just an ordinary person, so he won't be too guarded."
That was why she dared to take the risk.
As for K.
Justin and Nina didn't know her real identity. Only Benjamin and Kevin knew.
Benjamin continued reading, his eyes growing deeper as he pieced together the whole story from the plan.
"Do you have to go?" Benjamin asked, his anger gradually dissipating.
Daphne and Evan exchanged a glance, and the three of them nodded in unison. "We have to go."
Benjamin said, "I'll make a call."
Benjamin took the documents to the window and called his friend with a serious look.
If he hadn't retired, he could have applied to go, but now, he could only hope for that person's help.
Unfortunately, that person's phone was off.
This meant he was on a mission.
Benjamin felt a bit down, knowing he would have to find another way to contact them later.
"Take this." Benjamin handed her a small device. "Stick it in the safest place you can think of. No matter what kind of jammer others have, its signal will always be on, and I can always locate you."
