Chapter 409 Spending a Long Time in Prison
Aubrey had never seen Charles act like this before.
Sure, Charles was always kinda cold and distant, but this level of indifference? Totally new.
Even with all her prep, she felt a flicker of fear and wanted to bail.
"Ms. Smith, the bodyguards you hired? Yeah, our guys already took care of them," Mark said, still grinning like a Cheshire cat. "You should probably come with us."
"Why the hell should I go with you?" Aubrey shot back. "I haven't done anything wrong."
Charles gave Mark a look.
Mark got the hint and pulled out a stack of papers from his briefcase, handing them to Aubrey.
Aubrey had a sinking feeling and asked, "What's this?"
"Your criminal evidence," Charles said, each word dripping with ice, looking annoyingly handsome in his tailored suit. "I haven't handed it over to the cops yet because I want to personally bring you in."
The mess between him and Daphne? Yeah, a lot of it was on him.
But if it weren't for the shady stuff Aubrey pulled behind the scenes, they wouldn't be in this mess. The pain she caused Daphne? Charles was gonna make her pay for it.
"The evidence is solid, so don't even think about denying it," Charles said, his voice cold as ice.
"I'm not going back with you," Aubrey said, her palms sweaty. "I don't believe you can force me to go back."
Getting through the airport? No way Charles could pull that off, let alone drag her back.
Charles leaned back in his chair, oozing authority as he ordered, "Mark, show her the other document."
Mark pulled out another letter.
Aubrey's eyes widened when she saw what it said.
Blake actually sold her out.
"With this, we can easily take you back as long as you're knocked out," Charles said, all smug. "After all, you're really sick."
Blake's letter basically said Aubrey was seriously ill and gave Charles the green light to take her back. This was all part of Charles and Blake's plan.
"Charles!" Aubrey called out, desperate.
Charles wanted to wrap this up quick and wasn't in the mood to waste time. He ordered, "Mark, get Brian in here and let Ms. Smith take a nap. Prep the private jet to head back to Gedser."
"Got it." Mark went off to make the arrangements.
Aubrey knew she was cornered and felt a wave of frustration. "Why?"
"What do you mean why?" Charles sneered.
"Why are you doing this to me?" Aubrey asked, confused. "The stuff I did back then didn't really hurt Daphne. She's fine now, so why are you still after me?"
"When you mess up, you gotta pay the price. I paid mine, now it's your turn," Charles said, his eyes cold as ice.
Aubrey's eyes were filled with defiance, but she knew she couldn't change anything. Once Charles made up his mind, no one could sway him.
Soon enough, Brian showed up, grumbling the whole way.
He always knew Charles was a tough nut to crack, but yesterday he really got a taste of just how tough.
Brian had planned to go find Richard, but Charles got to him first, demanding compensation for the losses.
It was a massive amount. If he hadn't left the family, he could've easily paid it back. But now? No way he could swing it.
So, Charles switched things up. If Brian couldn't pay, he'd work for him for three years, and then they'd call it even.
Brian wasn't thrilled, but he knew he messed up by messing with Daphne's head, so he agreed.
"You got everything?" Charles asked, giving him a once-over.
Brian nodded, "Yeah, I got it all."
"Let's get started," Charles said, ice-cold.
Brian opened his medical kit.
He pulled out a bottle, shook out a pill, and handed it to Aubrey. "Ms. Smith, you can either take the pill or get an injection."
"What's this?" Aubrey instinctively pulled back.
"A sleep aid, just to knock you out for a few hours," Brian explained, always the calm one. "Mr. Lancelot's worried you might cause a scene."
Aubrey glared at Charles, "Charles!"
"Your call," Charles replied, totally unfazed.
"What if I choose neither?" Aubrey shot back.
"Brian will knock you out," Charles said flatly, no emotion. "No matter what you pick, you're gonna pay for what you did."
Aubrey wanted to argue, but seeing Charles's stone-cold face, she knew it was pointless. She couldn't change his mind.
Still, she had to try. She glanced at Charles and Brian, saw they were distracted, and bolted upstairs, looking for an escape.
But she barely got a few steps before Brian yanked her back.
Brian was a pro, good with medicine and quick on his feet.
That's why Charles had him help rescue Daphne back then.
"Ms. Smith, you should just come with us," Brian said, his voice soothing. "The whole villa's surrounded by bodyguards. No way you're getting out."
Aubrey clenched her fists, frustrated.
Brian added, "And yeah, we checked—no secret tunnels here."
Aubrey looked at Charles, shocked he was this thorough. All this, just for Daphne.
Charles wasn't wasting any more time. He gave Brian a look and walked out.
Brian followed orders and put Aubrey to sleep.
They flew back, landing on Valentine's Day afternoon.
Charles took Aubrey straight to the police station. On the way, Aubrey woke up, and it was clear that Brian had nailed the dosage.
At the station, Aubrey glared at Charles as he got out of the car, "Aren't you afraid of wrecking the relationship between the Smiths and the Lancelots?"
"The Smiths and the Lancelots won't fall out because of you," Charles said calmly. "I already told your folks what you did to Daphne and Kayla. And yeah, they know I'm bringing you to the cops."
With the Smiths in the loop, Charles moved fast. Aubrey had to face the music for her past actions.
Aubrey felt a wave of defiance, but she was stuck.
She was taken to the police station, and all the evidence Charles had was handed over. It was enough to keep her locked up for a long time.
