Chapter 376 His Method Is Too Clumsy.
Daphne made up her mind after thinking it through.
After checking out Charles's report, she decided to buy a watch for Benjamin. She hit up all the big brands at the mall and finally picked a Patek Philippe. She paid quickly and took it home.
Meanwhile, Charles called Brian when he got to the base. Brian showed up grumbling, clearly in a bad mood, but he perked up when he saw Charles.
"Mr. Lancelot," Brian greeted warmly.
"Tell me about the risks of memory recovery," Charles said, barely moving his lips, looking sharp in his suit.
"Why do you want to recover your memory? Don't you like Daphne anymore?" Brian asked, curious and persistent.
Charles dodged the question. "That's not your concern. Just help me recover my memory."
"Aren't you worried the old you will take over?" Brian asked.
"I don't care," Charles replied flatly.
Brian was puzzled, thinking, 'Not care? That doesn't sound like him.'
"How long will it take?" Charles asked, his eyes emotionless. "What are the risks, and will the memory be fully restored?"
"Anywhere from half a day to three days," Brian said straight up. "Worst case, you might lose some memory, but that's it."
"Got it." Charles stood up.
He pulled a small box from his jacket and handed it to Mark, his voice shaky. "Give this to Daphne after my memory is restored."
"Okay," Mark said, taking the box.
But Charles held onto it tightly, staring at it like it was super important.
"Should I call Ms. Murphy?" Mark suggested. "She could be with you during the recovery."
"No need," Charles said, letting go of the box.
If Daphne were there, he might hesitate. He had decided not to trouble her anymore.
"Let's start," Charles said, determined. "Avoid any risks; I don't want her to worry."
Brian was confused but went along with it. "Follow me."
Charles followed, and Mark tagged along, worried about any accidents. This time, Brian didn't stop him.
In a medical room, Brian gave Charles a thorough check-up. Everything was normal, so he had Charles change into special clothes and lie down.
Charles complied.
Before injecting the drug, Brian hesitated. "You have one last chance to contact Daphne. If you miss this, you'll wake up as your old self."
Brian knew this wasn't a secondary personality, but he played along for now.
"No need," Charles said firmly.
"Not even a goodbye?" Brian asked after a pause.
Charles closed his eyes, avoiding the question. Saying goodbye to Daphne in person was too hard. This was easier.
Brian didn't get it, his eyes showing confusion. He tried one last time. "Really?"
"If you nag one more time, I'll tear this place apart," Charles threatened. "And I'll destroy you too."
Suppressing his feelings for Daphne had been tough, and Brian's questions weren't helping.
"Alright, alright," Brian sighed, giving up. "Let's start."
He injected the drug into Charles. Charles's consciousness faded, and just before he fell asleep, Daphne's face flashed in his mind.
Brian led Mark out and closed the medical room door. Mark watched through the glass, worried. "Brian, can these devices really restore Mr. Lancelot's memories?"
"They can," Brian assured him.
The drug was crucial, and since it was a full memory recovery, no hypnosis was needed.
"Let me see the box he gave you," Brian said, curious about what Charles left for Daphne.
Mark smiled. "This is for Ms. Murphy; I can't give it to you."
"I need to know what's up with him. What if what's in the box is crucial for his recovery?" Brian made an excuse.
"You just said the devices could restore his memory," Mark replied, not falling for it. "So it doesn't matter."
"Do you want Mr. Lancelot to have an accident?" Brian changed his tone.
Mark didn't respond, just smiled politely. After a few seconds, Brian gave up.
Brian thought, 'Why is it so hard to get anything from Charles's people?'
"Do you know what happened between him and Daphne recently?" Brian asked indirectly. "It's important for his recovery. If risks arise, we can use this info."
"Why don't you ask Ms. Murphy?" Mark suggested, seeing through Brian's clumsy attempt. "She should know best."
Realizing he wouldn't get anything from Mark, Brian went to his office. He monitored all the data changes on his computer, recording everything to ensure Charles's recovery.
Mark, assigned to the waiting room, looked at the box Charles had given him, feeling conflicted.
Mark didn't fully understand Charles's situation; Daphne hadn't told him, and he hadn't asked Brian. But their conversation made him suspicious. If it was just memory recovery, why did Brian insist on a goodbye to Daphne?
