Chapter 275 Charles is Transferred

Based on Rex's personality, who knows when he might accidentally spill the beans?

As long as there's a chance Charles can be treated, he has to keep this a secret and not let them know.

Daphne agreed. "Okay."

Daphne still got in the car and went to the airport.

Charles' recovery depended entirely on his luck and Brian's abilities.

Daphne felt heavy-hearted. Hayden wasn't feeling any better either. After seeing Daphne off, he sat in the car, thinking about Charles' current situation, and rubbed his heavy brow.

When he learned about Charles' accident, he didn't feel good.

Aside from his feelings, Charles had never caused them any trouble since he was a child; he had always been an outstanding representative.

However, now his central nervous system was severely damaged, he could develop various symptoms.

Hayden was genuinely worried.

If Charles couldn't be treated, and if he only lost his mind, they could take care of him. But if he became paralyzed, or developed aphasia, or lost his hearing or sight, he was really afraid Charles wouldn't be able to handle it.

Charles had been proud since he was a child; Hayden was really afraid he would be crushed.

He never blamed Daphne. She was the person Charles risked his life to protect; how could he bear to blame her even a little?

He only hoped Daphne could understand that Charles made his own independent choice; it really had nothing to do with her. He didn't want her to live with guilt.

Thinking of this, he lit up his phone and sent Daphne a message: [Don't feel burdened; you've already done very well.]

After sending it, he deleted part of his chat history with Daphne.

Although Laura never checked his phone, he was still afraid that if she found out, he wouldn't be able to keep it a secret.

After handling everything, he drove back. He arrived at the Lancelot Mansion.

He composed himself and adjusted his state before getting out of the car, returning to his usual calm and elegant demeanor.

When he got back, Marcus and Laura were no longer playing chess. They were chatting.

"Are you done?" Laura asked gently when she saw him.

Hayden took a shawl and draped it over her, afraid she might be cold. "Yes."

Laura asked, "What was it about?"

Hayden replied, "Your son."

Hearing this, Laura's gaze fell on him. Although she had just celebrated his birthday with him a few days ago, Charles was still her child; she always worried about him.

Even Marcus looked over.

Hayden naturally went over to pour himself a drink, very relaxed. "Since Charles went to Gedser, he hasn't managed any of the company's affairs here. The secretary's office just asked me to handle some matters."

"Then you should help him out more," Laura said understandingly, "Charles has been working hard for so long; he deserves a break."

"Do you only care about your son and not your husband?" Hayden raised an eyebrow slightly.

Before Laura could speak, Marcus chimed in first, "What's wrong with her caring about her son? If it weren't for Charles, you wouldn't have won Laura over."

Hayden remained calm.

"Laura, letting you manage the company is Charles' recognition of your abilities." Marcus praised his grandson while criticizing his son. "At your age, no one would want you except Charles."

"Weren't you quite critical of him before?" Hayden's tone and attitude were the same as usual.

"That depends on who he's compared to. Compared to Daphne, it's normal for him to be criticized," Marcus snorted coldly, speaking very seriously, "But compared to you, he's much better."

Hayden's eyebrows lifted slightly. Indeed, Charles was still the best.

After muddling through the conversation, Hayden began to worry about how to explain things during Christmas.

Since Charles grew up managing the company, he handled many domestic and international collaborations, often keeping him extremely busy.

However, even so, he always made it back for Christmas dinner every year.

From what Daphne said, it seemed Charles wouldn't be able to make it this year; it was hard to come up with an excuse.

While he was thinking about this, Daphne had already arrived at the airport.

During her wait, she received a call from Brian, with whom she had left her contact information, for convenience. "Has the family consent form been signed?"

Daphne replied, "It's signed. I'm waiting at the gate."

Brian said, "Okay."

"Has Charles woken up?" Daphne asked, her palm slightly tightening.

Brian's tone was gentle. "He woke up, but his condition is still unstable. He was awake for half an hour before falling unconscious again."

Daphne asked, "What are his symptoms?"

"I'm not sure about all the symptoms yet; we'll have to wait until his external injuries heal before we can check everything," Brian told her directly.

After saying she would return as soon as possible, Daphne hung up.

When she got off the plane, it was already past nine in the evening.

She rushed to the hospital where Charles was, hoping Brian could take Charles to his medical facility as soon as possible.

However, when she arrived at Charles' room, it was empty. She felt a void in her heart and checked all the surrounding rooms, but still found no one.

She immediately took out her phone and called Brian.

Her phone's ringtone sounded in the nearby hallway.

As she walked towards the hallway, Brian, dressed in casual clothes, approached with a smile and greeted her. "Ms. Murphy, over here."

"Where's Charles?" Daphne asked urgently.

"He has already been transferred. He should be arriving at my medical base soon," Brian said naturally.

Daphne frowned, doubting the truth of his words. "Then why are you still here?"

"Of course, I'm here to get the family consent form." Brian paused, his gaze carrying a hint of deeper meaning.

Daphne pressed. "And what?"

"I'm here to pass on a message from Charles," Brian drawled.

Daphne remained silent, waiting for him to continue. Her intuition told her that whatever Charles had to say wouldn't be good.

Or rather, it wasn't something she wanted to hear.

"He asked me to tell you that things are settled between you two," Brian said, one hand in his pocket, "All his past misunderstandings, distrust, and debts to you, he's repaid with his life."

"That's impossible," Daphne said without thinking.

Although Charles had hurt her, she knew his pride and self-respect wouldn't allow him to say such things. If he did, he wouldn't be the Charles she knew.

"He said it himself; how is it impossible?" Brian's tone was teasing.

Daphne calmly replied, "Let me see him and hear him say it himself."

She had reason to suspect that Brian was trying to get rid of her for his deal with Charles. Given the current situation, she couldn't just watch Charles recover, only to be tormented by Brian again.

Brian continued to play the messenger. "He doesn't want to see you; how can you hear him say it?"

"How do you know he doesn't want to see me?" Daphne retorted.
