Chapter 620 Mind Your Own Business

"I gotta come clean with Austin," Selene said, guilt gnawing at her as his words had really hit home. "And I need to apologize to Daisy."

"You're nuts," Dennis snapped at her.

Selene didn't say anything back.

For the next few days, Austin stayed home. He texted Daisy every day, asking if she'd eaten or how the weather was in Gedser.

Selene noticed how down Austin seemed. By the third day, she couldn't ignore it any longer and decided to have a talk with him. Her face was a mix of emotions as she approached. "Is Daisy really the only person you want in your life?"

"Yes," Austin said firmly. "I don't want anyone else but her."

"Even if it means cutting ties with us?" Selene asked.

Austin paused, staring at Selene. "That's something you should ask yourselves. I'm an adult. I know better than you who's best for my future."

"What if we don't want you to be together?" Selene pressed.

"Then I'll never get married," Austin said clearly.

Selene looked a bit confused. "What about Daisy?"

"She won't be with me until you fully accept our relationship," Austin said, knowing Daisy well. "She doesn't want to deal with your disapproval."

Selene was annoyed. "What do you mean by 'deal with us'?"

"Whether she marries me or not, I'll only love her in this lifetime," Austin made his stance clear. "Whether you agree or not doesn't really change much. At most, if something happens to me in Gedser and I need a family member's signature, she won't have the right to sign, and I'll die because of it."

Selene didn't like Austin's grim scenario. "What nonsense are you talking about?"

"It's not nonsense," Austin said calmly. "It's a fact. Neither you nor Molly can be there for me through life. You should understand this better than I do."

'Kids and parents have their own paths, but a spouse is someone who walks through life with you,' he reflected.

"Buy two plane tickets. We're going to Gedser tomorrow," Selene said, not wanting to argue anymore.

Austin paused, a bit surprised. "You agree with me being with Daisy?"

"Whether I agree or not, your mind is made up," Selene replied, having thought it through over the past few days. "So I might as well support you."

"Thank you," Austin felt relieved.

"One thing," Selene's expression turned serious, her eyes on Austin filled with emotion. "Is Molly really your child?"

"Yes," Austin answered quickly.

Selene frowned slightly. "Have you done a paternity test?"

"No, but Daisy isn't the type to mess around." Austin admitted, "I misunderstood because I forgot some things."

Selene paused, still seeming to ponder over the situation.

Austin didn't say more. Honestly, he wouldn't care if Molly wasn't his biological child; as long as she was Daisy's, he would love her.

"We went to Gedser to find Daisy before," Selene admitted, not sure how to break it to Austin. "And we said some pretty harsh things."

"I know," Austin replied, not going into details.

Selene asked again, "Did she tell you?"

"No, she never mentioned it. Molly told me," Austin clarified. "Molly overheard everything you said to Daisy."

Selene's brow furrowed, her expression complicated.

Austin questioned, "Mom."

"What?" Selene responded.

"Why did you spread rumors at school that Molly is an illegitimate child?" Austin was really concerned. "Do you know how much that can hurt a kid?"

Selene looked puzzled. "What rumors?"

"After you went to Gedser, people at Molly's school started saying she was an illegitimate child. It has nothing to do with you?" Austin explained.

"How could it be related to us? We only mentioned it casually in front of Daisy." Selene frowned, feeling guilty and confused. "But we never said it to anyone else."

"What about Dad?" Austin felt something was off.

"You know him." Selene also sensed something was wrong. "He might expresse his displeasure but hewouldn't spread such rumors, especially about a child."

Austin's eyes deepened as he thought of something. "Did Kaitlyn go with you?"

"No," Selene shook her head. "She was already in Gedser for an exchange program. The night we went to see Daisy, she even took time off to have dinner with us."

Austin didn't speak, but he was sure Kaitlyn was behind it.

"You suspect Kaitlyn?" Selene asked.

"I'll find out," Austin didn't say it directly, his expression complicated. "You should rest. I'll go book the tickets."

Selene agreed.

That night, Austin made a call to have someone investigate Kaitlyn's whereabouts and contacts.

No sooner had he finished the call than his phone rang again. It was Charles.

"If my mom asks what I'm doing in Gedser, tell her I'm there for business," Charles's voice was deeper and more serious than usual.

Austin was curious. "Doesn't your mom like Daphne? If you're visiting her kids, wouldn't she want you to take pictures for her?"

"Just do as I say." Charles rubbed his temples.

Laura did like Daphne, but she was trying to set Charles up with someone else, and he didn't want any unnecessary complications.

"Are you avoiding someone besides visiting the kids in Gedser?" Austin asked curiously. "That enthusiastic girl Mark mentioned?"

"You talk too much." Charles clearly didn't want to discuss it.

"It's not that I talk too much; it's that you have too much gossip," Austin said seriously, genuinely curious about who could make Charles hide. "Why don't you tell me about her, and I'll give you some advice?"

"A guy with kids in elementary school and still not married, giving me advice?" Charles retorted. "Just take care of your own business."
