Chapter 332 Online Rumors
"Have you been to his house?" Daphne asked Lydia, still a bit worried.
If Nick had invited Lydia over without her family's consent, that'd be a big deal.
But from what Daphne knew of Nick, he didn't seem like that type.
Lydia looked puzzled. "No, I haven't."
Alexander and Daphne exchanged a look, both relieved.
"It was last summer when he didn't go home. His parents and sister visited," Lydia quickly explained, realizing the misunderstanding. "They're really nice."
"Okay," Daphne sighed in relief.
Lydia still felt uneasy. She glanced at Alexander. Usually, if Daphne agreed with something,so did he, but his silence made her nervous.
"Since Daphne's okay with it, let's see how it goes," Alexander finally said, not wanting Lydia to stress. "Bring him over sometime so I can meet him."
"Sure!" Lydia was thrilled.
"But!" Alexander suddenly added.
Lydia's heart skipped a beat. "What?"
"No staying out overnight with him," Alexander said firmly. "You need to protect yourself, got it?"
Lydia hesitated but agreed. "Okay."
"Okay?" Alexander repeated.
"Yes, I'll protect myself," Lydia promised, her eyes darting. "But we planned to go camping when it gets warmer. Not staying overnight might be tough."
"No way," Alexander said flatly.
"Dad!" Lydia protested.
"Ask Daphne," Alexander replied.
Lydia tugged on Daphne's sleeve, pleading. "Daphne, we've planned this camping trip. You wouldn't want me to break my promise, right?"
"If you want to go, go," Daphne said. "Just remember what I have told you."
"Thank you, Daphne!" Lydia hugged her and kissed her cheek. "You're the best!"
She then dashed upstairs, leaving Alexander looking confused.
Alexander looked at Lydia's closed door, then at Daphne, who stayed calm. "Daphne."
"Lydia knows what she's doing. Mom and I have talked to her," Daphne reassured him. "She knows how to protect herself. Don't worry too much."
"Okay," Alexander said, letting it go.
If Daphne said not to worry, then he wouldn't.
The next morning, Daphne went to visit Daisy.
The housekeeper and staff had Christmas prep covered, so she didn't need to oversee it. But she was worried about Daisy and wanted to check on her.
Daphne had been busy lately and hadn't kept up with Daisy, only calling occasionally to ask about her health and the baby.
When Daphne arrived, Daisy was walking in the yard. To make sure she was well taken care of, they had hired a nutritionist, a family doctor, and a dedicated caregiver, in addition to the bodyguards and cook.
This way, even if Daphne missed a call, everything would still be managed.
"Daphne!" Daisy greeted her happily.
Daphne softened at the sight of Daisy's growing belly. "How have you been?"
"Pretty good. I can eat and sleep well, no discomfort," Daisy said, feeling lucky to know Daphne. "What about you? What have you been up to?"
"Dealing with a kid," Daphne said, thinking about Charles.
"A kid?" Daisy looked puzzled.
"Charles," Daphne clarified.
"You're still in touch with him?" Daisy asked.
"It's a long story and complicated. But now he's back in Ivrea City with Uncle Hayden," Daphne said, skipping the details.
Daisy seemed hesitant, unsure whether to speak.
Daphne noticed. "What's up?"
"There's something I'm not sure I should tell you," Daisy said.
"Go ahead," Daphne encouraged.
"There's a rumor in our circle," Daisy said. "They're saying the CEO of the Lancelot Group, Charles, might be in trouble or even dead."
Daphne frowned. "Who started this?"
"Not sure," Daisy said. "But they seem to have evidence, even pictures."
"Let me see," Daphne said, sensing the seriousness.
Daisy showed her the saved pictures.
There were three: one was Charles being taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound, another was him in the hospital room after surgery, and the last one was him being transferred to a medical facility.
Judging by the angles, the first and third pictures were taken from above. The second one was through an observation window.
Brian, that guy, didn't even realize he was being photographed.
"Are these genuine?" Daisy asked, seeing Daphne's serious expression.
"Yes," Daphne admitted. "But he's recovering now."
Daisy sighed in relief, not pressing for more details.
Just then, a message popped up in Daisy's group chat. Daphne was about to hand the phone back, but Daisy let her hold it and opened the message.
[Remember the news I shared before?] The group admin posted: [About the Lancelot Group's Charles.]
[What happened?]
[What's going on?]
Everyone was asking.
Daphne had a bad feeling.
The admin posted a screenshot with a message: [Someone has come forward, saying Mr. Lancelot of the Lancelot Group is in trouble.]
Daisy opened the screenshot. It contained a few hundred words explaining the situation, along with a hand-drawn picture of Charles injured.
Daphne memorized the ID at a glance.
She took out her phone, downloaded Instagram, and searched for it.
