Chapter 54 I Am a Rational Person
"What do you want to discuss?" she asked calmly, subtly creating distance between them.
This feeling made Charles feel frustrated.
He took a big step forward, reaching her and blurted out without thinking, "Let's talk about what you plan to do after the divorce, whether you'll continue working at the Murphy family, or go back to being Miss Murphy's bodyguard or being with Evan?"
"Crazy." Daphne was tired of talking to him politely.
When she just got divorced, she thought of having a peaceful separation, mocking things she didn't like in secret. But over time, she found that Charles became more and more unbearable, like a lunatic, as if the gentle person from a year and a half ago was just her imagination.
"If you don't have a job, I can give you a position at the Lancelot Group." Charles ignored her retort.
His purpose in coming here was to see her reaction when she saw the lipstick on his body, and talking business was just an excuse. But at this point, he unintentionally thought about her life after the divorce.
Just the thought of her alone in that villa, staring at the sky, like an abandoned kitten, made him feel a little uneasy.
Daphne questioned, "What position can give me a salary of over twenty million dollars?"
He didn't expect her to be so brazen.
"Wages are proportional to abilities," he said, "What do you have to prove you are worth over twenty million dollars?"
"If I don't have a salary of over twenty million dollars, why would I work for your company?" Daphne analyzed logically, leaving him speechless with her next words, "I put the 1.4 billion dollars from the divorce in the bank, and at an annual interest rate of 1.5%, I would have over twenty million dollars in interest without doing anything for a year. Not to mention such a large amount of deposit, it wouldn't have such low interest. I can't believe you're a businessman and you can't do this calculation."
"What if you get carried away and get cheated out of it?" Charles, having no rebuttal, could only force himself to say.
"Even if I became a beggar, I wouldn't get cheated." Daphne said firmly, "I am a smart person."
Charles clenched his teeth: "You're saying I'm not smart."
"You are," Daphne looked at him, "but not as much as you think."
Charles's chest was filled with anger. He must have been crazy to come here and do such a foolish thing. "Let's see who becomes a beggar first." The topic between the two had unintentionally shifted, and Charles was even more irritated.
"Goodbye." Charles turned and left, his tall figure exuding coldness. After he entered the elevator, Daphne closed the door. She sat back on the sofa in the living room, and images of the lipstick on Charles's collar and the scent of his perfume automatically appeared in her mind. She frowned, her emotions fluctuating more than usual.
It wasn't that she still cared, but she couldn't explain the irritation she felt, as if he had cheated on her. This feeling was stronger than seeing him with Kayla. She squeezed her brows, thinking that she would be leaving Ivrea City in a few days, and she still wanted to give Ivrea
Daisy bid farewell to her friend in the city.
Realizing it was late at night, she opened WhatsApp and sent a message to Daisy: "Daisy, I will be leaving Ivrea City in a few days. Would you like to grab a meal when you have time?"
Daisy was a friend she met when she first arrived in Ivrea City.
They hit it off right away and had great conversations. Daisy often invited her for meals, shopping, and outings. At that time, Daisy was still an unknown actress in the entertainment industry, until a year ago when she played a villain and received a lot of criticism, instantly propelling her to become a second-tier actress.
It had been six months since they last met. After waiting for a while, without receiving a reply, she guessed that Daisy must have fallen asleep and decided to go to bed herself. Unexpectedly, she received a bombardment of messages from Mark.
Mark: “Miss Murphy, I'm sorry.”
Mark: “I shouldn't have lied to you.’
Mark: “Can you forgive me this time?”
Daphne chose to ignore these messages, locked her phone after reading them and went to sleep. Mark was in a frenzy. Judging by the look on his boss's face, he knew things had definitely gone sour between them.
Charles was like a ticking bomb now. Seeing Mark still staring at his phone, his cold voice carried displeasure as he said, "Are you not leaving? Waiting for breakfast tomorrow?"
"I'm leaving now." Mark didn't dare to argue, he put down his phone, started the car, and left.
Throughout the journey, he wondered how he could stop infuriating Miss Murphy. That wicked boss, causing him to offend even his idol!
That night, neither Charles nor Mark couldn't sleep peacefully, but Daphne slept soundly. She wouldn't let her emotions and things affect her sleep. Besides the difficulty in calming down when dreaming about her mother, she could quickly calm down from other things.
The next day when she woke up, she received a reply from Daisy.
Daisy: “Sure, how about today?”
The message was sent at three in the morning. She was initially puzzled, but then realized Daisy was an actress, and it was possible that she had just finished filming. Thinking this, she replied: “Do you have a shoot today?”
As soon as the message was sent, the phone rang. The voice on the other end was pleasant and sweet: "I haven't been filming lately. If you are free today, let's seize the day. There's a new French restaurant in the city center, they say the food is excellent. Let's give it a try together."
"Sounds good." Daphne agreed. When it came to food, she wasn't picky. As long as it was safe to eat, she was fine. To quote Lydia, she was easy to please.
After deciding on a time, Daphne changed into a different outfit and headed out. Most of her clothes were in cool colors, black, white, and gray. Her shoulder-length hair cascaded on both sides, with a thin fringe falling slightly.
It was a simple outfit, but she looked extremely beautiful. By the time they met, it was already ten o'clock. Daisy was wearing sunglasses and a hat. She was wearing a long coat in warm colors, standing at Daphne's side who was 165 cm tall, looking cute.
"Come, let's go inside," Daisy took Daphne's hand and headed towards the shopping center in the city center. "It's so difficult for me to go out now, I'm afraid of being recognized by paparazzi and fans."
Daphne said, "Next time, you can just stay in the private room, and I'll come find you."
"That won't work!" Daisy said decisively. "With your sense of direction issues, I doubt you can even find the floor and the private room."
"I don't sense of direction issues," she explained.
The first time they met was because Daisy thought she was an idiot. Because of a misunderstanding, the two people got in touch with each other, and then the chat became friends.
Daphne has a lot of friends. Basically, they all play together when they are young. They only get to know each other when they grow up. Daisy is the first one.
