Chapter 708 Adding Worry
"You need to give me a reason," Diana said calmly, knowing her family was reasonable. "What exactly did you find out?"
Louis pressed his thin lips into a straight line, clearly reluctant to speak, as if he knew Diana wouldn't let go once she found out.
Diana took a bite of meat and waited patiently for his answer.
"You don't need to know," Louis finally said after a long pause.
Diana put down her utensils. "Then I'm going back to New York City. Bye."
"You can't."
"Why not?"
"Just can't."
"I used to think Caspian was the most boring person in the world, obviously liking me but unwilling to admit it," Diana spoke gently, as she always did with them. "But now I realize you're quite similar to him."
"You said you'd come back and tell me, so I came back." Diana's gaze fell on Louis's face. "Now I'm back, but you're not telling me anything. You can't stop me from leaving."
"I'll tell you, but you have to promise not to see him again." Louis offered a compromise.
"Sure," Diana agreed quickly.
Louis raised an eyebrow, surprised at how readily she agreed.
Just as Louis was about to ask something, Diana finished her sentence, "Just bring him to Gedser for me."
Louis frowned slightly.
"You and Mom and Dad have never been overbearing. Everything has always been discussed and agreed upon." Diana noticed Louis's unusual behavior and guessed the situation might be serious. "I hope this time is no different."
Louis furrowed his brows, looking troubled, unsure of what to do.
For a moment, Louis even considered controlling Diana, regardless of her consent, to prevent her from going to Ivrea City to see Caspian.
But reason told him that she was his sister, and even though he was worried, he should respect her and her freedom.
"Louis, I've grown up." Diana knew he was worried. "I can make my own choices and take care of myself."
Louis's Adam's apple bobbed, and after a while, he relented, "Come upstairs with me."
"Okay." Diana immediately followed him.
He opened the study door and turned on the computer. As he unlocked a folder, he glanced at Diana, who was waiting beside him.
"Hurry up and open it," Diana urged.
"If you still want to be with him after seeing this, I'll tell Mom and Dad," Louis warned, making his final concession. "Let them persuade you."
"Alright," Diana agreed.
Louis let go of the mouse and stood up from the chair.
Diana looked puzzled. "Aren't you going to show me?"
Without a word, Louis walked to the sofa, picked up a file from the table, and handed it to her. "Read it yourself."
Diana was momentarily stunned. She looked at the file in his hand and then at the computer.
"Didn't you say it was on the computer?" She recalled the voice message Louis sent her and felt a bit helpless.
"The digital version is on the computer. This is the printed copy," Louis explained. "Read it yourself."
Diana took the file. If she had known it was on the table, she would have found a way to break in, read it, and then run away.
"Caspian has a severe need for control and possessiveness, and you're the target," Louis summarized as Diana read. "But for some reason, he's been able to control it."
Diana read carefully and casually remarked, "Isn't it good that he can control it?"
"Keep reading," Louis said.
According to the case Louis had found, Caspian's possessiveness and need for control over Diana exceeded normal limits.
Currently, because Diana wasn't with him, he could use his willpower to control himself.
But if they were together, Caspian's suppressed emotions would become uncontrollable.
When he couldn't have her, he could push her away. Once he had her, he would never let go.
In other words, Diana's freedom could be at great risk.
"I think it's fine," Diana finished reading the file and didn't take it seriously. "His psychological issues stem from childhood experiences. His feelings for me might be because we've spent too much time together."
If Caspian had tried to trap Diana from the beginning, she would have wanted to stay away.
But over the years, he had controlled his emotions well. When she pursued him, he pushed her away to avoid hurting her, proving he genuinely cared for her.
Such a kind person, Diana saw no reason to stay away.
"If you stay with him, he might keep you by his side and not let you leave," Louis added.
"I know," Diana sat down to talk with Louis. "But I believe any illness can be cured. I'm willing to stay by his side and help him through it."
Louis frowned, clearly disapproving.
After discovering Caspian's condition, Louis had consulted experts. If it reached a certain severity, it could be very bad.
"I know what you're worried about, but I don't think it's necessary," Diana continued to reassure him. "The worst-case scenario is that he locks me in his house. I'm skilled enough to get out easily."
Louis remained silent, clearly angry.
To Louis, Diana was the family's treasure, loved by everyone. No one wanted to see someone they cared about be with someone dangerous.
Louis couldn't accept it, and neither could Benjamin and Daphne.
"Caspian is Charles's successor. You can trust him," Diana defended Caspian.
Louis coldly replied, "I don't trust him."
"Then trust me." Diana said, still relaxed. "I'm Diana, raised by Mom and Dad. You should trust that I can handle any situation."
Louis remained silent, deeply opposed to the idea.
But their family tradition was never to force anyone into any decision. Everything had to be discussed and agreed upon.
With that in mind, Louis took out his phone.
Seeing him pull up the contact list, Diana asked, "What are you doing?"
"Calling Mom and Dad to talk to you." Louis felt the matter was too serious.
Louis would rather the person be ordinary than Caspian. He was genuinely afraid Diana would get hurt.
"That's not necessary." Diana stopped him, wanting to talk first. "Telling them will only make them worry more, won't it?"
