Chapter 66 A Closer Encounter

"If you hit me, you'll still be legally responsible," Kayla had originally intended to provoke Daphne into hitting her, but after observing for a long time, she found that Daphne hadn't driven at all since moving out.

Rex looked at her with suspicion, his mind questioning Charles's taste. He had only heard Charles mention he was in love, but he had never formally introduced Kayla to his family, leaving Rex curious about the person who had captured Charles's heart.

Now it seemed...

It was a good thing he hadn't inquired further. With such intelligence, she was indeed a disappointment.

"It's you who's trying to extort me. As long as I haven't broken any traffic rules, even if you were hit and killed, the full responsibility would be yours," Rex said lightly, his words cutting without a visible blade. "Even if there were to be a pursuit of responsibility, I would bear less than 10% of it, and that much I could afford to compensate you for."

Daphne pursed her lips, finding herself unexpectedly fond of Rex's words.

Compensation, that sounded quite alright.

Kayla bit her lip, her unoccupied hand clenching tightly.

This man was just as hard to like as Daphne!

"Do you know who I am?" Kayla started to reveal her identity, her gaze filled with dislike and anger as she stared at Rex.

Rex suddenly became interested, raising his eyebrows: "I really don't."

"I am Charles's future wife," Kayla declared loudly, hoping to intimidate him with this statement. "Regarding today's incident, if I want to pursue it, he could sue you into ruin."

"Then hurry up and have him sue me."

"You!"

"It might be interesting to experience what life in jail is like."

"Don't think I won't dare."

"You have nothing to fear, your future husband is Charles," Rex said with a playful tone. "A legend in the business world, a young god. If he wants to bring someone down, it's as simple as a word."

Kayla furrowed her brows.

She suddenly couldn't tell if the man in front of her was genuinely afraid or just mocking her.

"But," Rex's tone shifted as he stood up from his chair.

Kayla fixed her gaze on him:"But what?"

"It's just that his taste isn't very good." Rex began to reveal his own identity, his hands in his pockets and a hint of rascality in his demeanor. "Otherwise, why would he choose you over such an excellent sister-in-law?"

Kayla's face soured. Could it be that the man with Daphne was...

"I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Rex." Rex's voice was lazy and pleasant, his lips curled into a smile. "Charles's younger brother."

Kayla's pupils shrank, her face turning instantly pale.

If this man was Charles's younger brother, then her attempt to extort him on the road, and the words she had just said...

No!

She couldn't let Charles find out.

She absolutely couldn't!

"Charles is already on his way here," Rex kindly informed her, now truly eager to watch the drama unfold. "You'll have to explain to him the attempted extortion and how you wanted him to sue me into ruin."

"You..." Kayla was at a loss for words.

Rex pulled over a chair for Daphne:"Daphne, sit."

Daphne: "......"

For the next half hour.

Rex chatted with Daphne while Kayla lay in the hospital bed listening to their conversation.

During this time, Kayla thought about how to explain to Charles and had already found excuses for herself.

Around eleven o'clock.

Charles arrived.

He was still in the same clothes as before, and because he had rushed over, he was breathing more heavily than usual, his dark eyes filled with concern.

Seeing Daphne there as well, his brows knitted ever so slightly, then he ignored her and walked over to Kayla:"Kayla."

"Charles."

Tears streamed down Kayla's face.

Watching this scene.

Daphne had to admire her; the ability to cry on cue was not something everyone possessed.

Charles soothed her, his words and attitude much softer than when he addressed Daphne, showing a lot more patience.

Rex coughed lightly: "Ahem."

Was Charles taking Daphne too lightly? His wife was still there, and he was already being intimate with his mistress.

What a jerk.

"What happened?" Charles was still standing, his gaze shifting between Daphne and Charles, with displeasure,"How did Kayla end up in the hospital?"

Daphne didn't speak, nor did Rex.

When he had called, he only mentioned that Kayla was in an accident at the hospital, nothing else.

"It was Daphne..." Kayla reached for Charles's hand.

Charles saw the look in Daphne's eyes and subconsciously avoided Kayla's outstretched hand.

Kayla noticed this, bit her lip, and continued with reddened eyes:"I accidentally saw her with your brother, and she wanted to kill me to keep me quiet."

Rex:"??"

Charles:"??"

Both of their expressions were perfectly in sync.

Charles doubted what he had heard:"Rex with Daphne?"

"Yes..." Kayla spoke slowly, her heart still aching, "I was just trying to clear my head, but then I saw them in the car, being intimate. At that time, I didn't know he was your brother, I thought he was someone Daphne found to cheat on you with."

As she spoke, Kayla enunciated every word clearly.

Her eyes were slightly red, looking pitiable.

Anyone who saw her would not think she was lying.

"I just called out to her, saying I would tell you about her cheating on you with someone, and then she had your brother drive the car at me." Kayla added the rest.

"What a waste not to go into acting," Daphne retorted.

Kayla didn't respond, just looked at her.

"Since you say Rex and I were being intimate in the car," Daphne was still sitting, her gaze cold,"then tell me, how exactly were we intimate? What did we do, and where did we do it?"

"You..." Kayla's face flushed red, full of shame as she spoke to Charles, "Charles, I can't bring myself to say it..."

Hearing this.

Charles's expression turned icy, and his entire demeanor became cold in an instant.

He just looked at Daphne and asked,"What did you do?"

"Why are you asking her, not me?" Daphne had no patience for Charles,"Have you ever believed what I said?"

His words left Charles speechless.

It was at this moment that Rex's gaze towards Daphne held a bit more complexity. What exactly had his bastard brother done to hurt Daphne to this extent?

"Kayla, you tell me," Charles's voice deepened a bit.

Kayla seemed hesitant, and after a long pause, she finally whispered,"I saw Daphne lean over to the driver's seat and kiss Rex. Her hands were wrapped around his neck, and... they did some more intimate things."
