Chapter 304 Ask Daphne, She Should Know.

Charles raised his voice a bit, sounding like a warning. "Is there a problem?"

"If you tell Ms. Murphy, she'll call the cops for sure," Mark said, setting up his plan. "Then everything will come out."

"You said it was handled," Charles thought, once again, that Mark was an idiot.

Mark reluctantly agreed. "Alright."

But inside, Mark was thrilled!

If Daphne checked the old surveillance footage, she'd see the cloud data was deleted. For most, that's a dead end, but for a hacker like Daphne, it's easy!

Then, he'd subtly point her to today's footage.

Once she saw it, she'd know something was off with Charles! It wouldn't just be his word against hers.

Mark felt smart and grateful Charles had amnesia and didn't know Daphne was a hacker.

Mark said, "Mr. Lancelot."

Charles replied, "Speak."

Mark asked, "How old are you now?"

Charles said, "I don't know." He wasn't lying.

Brian once told Charles he had the mental age of a five-year-old. Later, a call from someone claiming to be his father, Hayden, made things clearer.

The biggest change happened while talking to Mark. With each word, he felt his mental age grow. By the end, he knew he wasn't a child anymore.

But Charles didn't know his exact age; he'd have to ask Brian.

"Do you remember anything from the past?" Mark asked.

"Where did Daphne get the evidence to expose me?" Charles abruptly shifted the conversation.

Mark thought, 'Where else? Daphne found it herself!'

"I don't know. Ms. Murphy made a call, and soon after, all kinds of evidence showed up on her computer," Mark lied smoothly. "You know the rest."

Luckily, he hadn't given details earlier; otherwise, it would be hard to cover up.

"Really stupid," Charles said, unclear who he meant.

Mark was puzzled but didn't ask more.

This Charles was hard to approach, so it was better to stay quiet.

By the time they got to Brian's place, it was past one in the afternoon. Brian had just finished work and was about to eat when he saw an unexpected guest.

Brian thought, 'Charles? Why is he here?'

"Brian," Mark greeted politely.

Brian looked at Charles, who acted like he owned the place, and quietly asked Mark, "Has he regained his memory?"

He shouldn't have; in this state, he shouldn't remember anything.

"No," Mark said honestly, since Brian was a doctor. "But he's acting strange."

While they talked, Charles eyed Brian's lunch and said, "Brian's lunch looks good."

"We haven't eaten yet. Mind if we join you?" Charles asked directly.

Mark felt helpless; this Charles was truly shameless!

Brian looked Charles up and down and asked, "Has your mental age increased?"

Charles shot him a look that clearly said, "Isn't that a dumb question?"

Brian didn't push further. He got two more sets of utensils, and the three of them had lunch together. During the meal, Brian watched Charles, watching his behavior, reactions, and words.

He finally concluded things seemed worse.

"If you keep staring at me, I'll think you have feelings for me like someone else," Charles said, annoyed.

Brian glanced at Mark. "Daphne didn't come?"

"No," Mark replied honestly.

"I came to get a cufflink I dropped earlier," Charles said, adding, "And Brian asked me some routine questions. That's it."

"Got it?" Charles looked at both of them. "Brian, Mark."

"Got it," Brian quickly agreed.

Mark thought, 'This is a different vibe from when I called you earlier.'

"If you want me to tell Daphne that, you need to cooperate with me on one thing," Brian said. "You'll need a full-body exam later."

Charles agreed. "No problem."

They both turned to Mark.

Mark paused his eating, thinking, 'What's this about?'

"Mark," Brian said with a warm smile, "To prevent you from spilling the beans, you'll stay here and not go in later."

Mark said, "But..."

Charles warned, "Do you still want your salary?"

"Okay, I'll stay outside," Mark quickly adapted.

After lunch, Brian and Charles went inside, passing through three password-protected doors.

In a closed meeting room, Brian adjusted his glasses and looked at Charles. "You're different from when you first woke up."

Charles asked, "Really?"

Brian nodded. "Yes."

Charles asked casually, "Is that good or bad?"

Brian didn't elaborate. After chatting about other things, he started the full-body exam. Afterwards, he concluded Charles's mental age had returned to normal.

Looking at his report, Charles rubbed the paper.

Brian, still staring at the report, asked, "How did your mental age grow?"

"Mark told me some things, and I grew up without realizing it," Charles said casually.

Brian was still thinking.

Charles spoke again, "Brian."

Brian asked, "What?"

"Tell me about what happened between you and me and everything between me and Daphne," Charles stated, then emphasized, "Preferably in detail."

Brian paused. "Didn't Mark tell you everything?"

"I want to know how I saved her," Charles said, enunciating each word deliberately.

Brian looked at him and then lied. "I'm sorry. I don't know. When I saw you, you were already injured."

"Brian, lying isn't good," Charles's demeanor turned dangerous, his eyes intense.

"I know," Brian responded calmly, still smiling gently, "But I really don't know. Why don't you ask Daphne? She should know very well."
