Chapter 459 The Proposal Plan
"Who cares?" Benjamin shrugged. "I'm retired now."
They both just kept quiet, like they had some unspoken agreement.
Over the next few days, Daphne wrapped up the ring business and took Benjamin on a tour of all the cool spots in the city.
To settle an old score, Benjamin used Laird's card the whole time.
One charge after another, Laird's mood went downhill fast. By the time Benjamin returned the card, Laird was fuming and called to chew him out.
"Just you wait," Laird threatened, dead serious. "In this special organization competition, I'll make sure your successor only gets second place!"
"I'll be waiting," Benjamin replied, totally chill.
After he hung up, Daphne gave him a look, all concerned.
Benjamin noticed. "What's up?"
"Are you really not going?"
"Nope."
"Is your successor any good?"
"Yeah, he's solid. And the others with me are pretty awesome too," Benjamin said, laying it out for Daphne. "The last few times, it wasn't supposed to be me, but they all faked being sick last minute, so the organization sent me."
The organization had a bunch of talented folks, many just as good as him. He wasn't sweating this competition; he knew they'd crush it.
"That's good." Daphne didn't dig deeper; it was organization stuff.
After wrapping up her work, Daphne planned to head back.
She wanted to wait for Benjamin, but he told her to go ahead, saying he had some personal stuff to handle.
They were always straight with each other, so if he said go, she'd go.
Plus, she had to set up the proposal scene, so she agreed and left with Gavin.
On the private jet back, Gavin kept grilling her about where she and Benjamin had been. Daphne didn't see any reason to hide it and spilled everything.
As they chatted, Gavin switched gears to the proposal. "So, when are you gonna pop the question to Benjamin?"
"I'll start setting it up as soon as I get back." Daphne checked her schedule. She had nothing else going on, so she planned to propose soon.
But she needed to prep. Besides the basic setup, she wanted to use a bunch of drones for the proposal.
The drone program was easy but designing it took some thought.
"So soon!" Gavin was genuinely surprised and a bit nervous. "Aren't you gonna wait for him to propose to you?"
"I can totally make the move," Daphne said, no hesitation.
In her head, she was already planning the drone formation.
It had to be epic, grand, and unforgettable.
Gavin was deep in thought. As soon as they got off the plane, he found an excuse to split from Daphne and called Benjamin.
He didn't spill the beans about Daphne's proposal plan, just nudged Benjamin to pop the question ASAP.
After checking in on Daisy and Molly at home, Daphne went to find Emma and the gang.
For stuff like this, it was better to let them handle it. She wasn't exactly a romance expert.
In Emma's living room, after hearing Daphne's proposal plan, Emma was the first to chime in, "That's easy, just have the drones spell out 'Benjamin, I love you' in big letters."
"It's stunning, grand, and everyone can see it," Emma added.
Zoey was all in. "Yeah, totally!"
Kevin thought it sounded a bit tacky, like something a rich newbie would do.
"Kevin, what do you think?" Daphne felt something was off but couldn't put her finger on it.
"Well..." Kevin glanced at Emma and Zoey.
Before he could say anything, they shot him a warning look.
The real showstopper of the proposal was on Benjamin's side; Daphne's part could be simple.
Knowing Benjamin, he'd be thrilled just knowing Daphne planned to propose.
If Daphne's proposal was too perfect, it might outshine Benjamin's.
Seeing Kevin hesitate, Daphne thought he had concerns. "Speak your mind; don't worry about anything else."
"I think it's a bit tacky," Kevin said, ignoring Emma and Zoey's glares. "It doesn't really show off what drones can do."
"Go on." Daphne was all ears.
"Using drones to spell out words is less impressive than a fireworks show," Kevin said bluntly. "It's cheaper and looks better."
"Fireworks?"
"Yeah."
"That might work." Daphne suddenly had a new idea.
But this idea needed some new tech and drone tweaks.
Emma and Zoey both sighed in relief.
Kevin, looking conflicted, coughed and asked, "Daphne, do you really think this will work?"
"Yeah."
"Fireworks seem a bit tacky too."
"That's not tacky. You just see them a lot." Emma didn't want Kevin to mess things up more. "Daphne loves fireworks; even if she sees them a thousand times, she never gets bored."
"But isn't this a proposal to Benjamin?" Kevin pointed out the obvious.
'Shouldn't it be something Benjamin likes?'
"Fireworks it is." Daphne had made up her mind. "I'll push the proposal back a month to get everything ready."
The three were a bit surprised. Wasn't a fireworks proposal a bit rushed?
"During this time, keep an eye on Benjamin for me. I'll contact the fireworks company and HorizonTech Group for the drones." Daphne wanted to surprise Benjamin. "If Benjamin asks what I'm up to, just say you wanted to play with drones and asked me to tweak one for you."
"Got it." Everyone agreed.
After hanging out for a bit, Daphne left.
Zoey was puzzled. "Is Daphne really going to use fireworks?"
"Not just fireworks, but drones too." Emma was curious. "Is she going to have the drones spell out 'Benjamin, I love you' while setting off fireworks?"
"But fireworks and drones together can be super risky," Zoey said slowly. "There's a good chance the drones could crash."
