Chapter 490 Long Time No See
"Alright, Ms. Murphy, just sign this," Desmond pushed. He still had to sort out the paperwork. "You and Mr. Reynolds are gonna be family soon. Doesn't matter whose name's on it."
If they were playing games, it'd be different. But Benjamin trusted Daphne, and Daphne was head over heels for Benjamin. It really didn't matter whose name was on it.
"If you don't sign, I'll think you're planning to bail," Benjamin said, pushing her for the first time, but he was dead set on this.
Daphne pressed her lips together and finally signed.
After signing, she asked, "Aren't you scared I'll take your stuff and run?"
"Can you run?"
"I can."
"I'll tell your dad."
Daphne stopped arguing.
Benjamin, who seemed all serious, was actually kinda childish.
"Go get the paperwork done." Benjamin handed the stack of documents to Desmond, making a wish come true.
Desmond felt pretty moved.
After Desmond walked out with the documents, he shot a message to Benjamin, asking the question that was bugging him the most: [Mr. Reynolds, you're giving everything to Ms. Murphy. If you guys split up, you won't get it back.]
Benjamin replied: [Are you hoping for my divorce before I'm even married?]
Should this secretary get canned?
Desmond replied: [I'm serious. Feelings can change. Aren't you worried about what would happen if things go south, and you end up divorced?]
Benjamin read the message, a slight smile forming on his lips, his dark eyes softening.
Benjamin finally gave a serious answer. [That's something other people need to worry about, not me. Besides being spouses, we're also teammates who can trust each other with our lives.]
They'd been through thick and thin together. He trusted Daphne as much as she trusted him.
Seeing Benjamin's reply, Desmond smiled and went to handle the paperwork.
Since Benjamin believed, he would give his blessings.
Benjamin and Daphne were sure to be happy for a lifetime.
"Benjamin." Daphne pressed her lips together.
Benjamin had just finished replying to the message. When he looked up, the sunlight hit his profile, making him look noble and lazy, so attractive that she couldn't look away.
For a moment, Daphne was stunned.
Benjamin didn't notice her unusual behavior. "What's up?"
"Well..." Daphne cleared her throat and pressed her lips before speaking. "How much should I chip in for the wedding?"
"You don't need to prepare anything. The money's yours." Benjamin put down his phone and hugged her. "You just need to marry me with peace of mind."
"Why are you giving me so much?" Daphne still didn't get it.
"Isn't it obvious? It's so I have a legit reason to rely on you, of course."
Daphne gave him a look. "I'm serious."
"So am I," Benjamin replied.
Daphne changed the question, looking even more serious than before. "Aren't you really afraid that I..."
"Before you ask that, I got a question for you," Benjamin said, knowing she wanted an answer and taking his sweet time.
Daphne paused. "What?"
"You've been through a rough marriage before. Why are you willing to marry me?" Benjamin's dark eyes were more serious than usual, his deep voice carrying some emotion. "Aren't you scared I'll ditch you for someone else?"
"No, I trust you," Daphne said, straight from the heart.
Benjamin smiled a bit, resting his chin on her head, his eyes all soft.
After a while, he spoke, "That is my answer too."
Daphne met his gaze.
At that moment, her heart settled.
Yeah, she and Benjamin were in it for the long haul. If he wanted to give her something, she'd take it.
Not many people knew about this. Besides Desmond, only Daphne, Benjamin, Alexander, Henry, and Anouk were in the loop.
The elders didn't butt in, leaving the decision to the two of them.
In no time, it was October.
Benjamin and Daphne hit up Chris and Sierra's wedding.
Initially, the wedding was supposed to be abroad, but after some thought, they had it in Gedser. It wasn't 'cause of any hassle for Benjamin, but 'cause they wanted to jet off on their honeymoon right after the wedding.
On the third day of the wedding, Chris and Sierra invited Benjamin and Daphne out for a hangout. They planned to travel for months on their honeymoon, and Chris was worried Benjamin would "miss him."
They picked a club with loads of activities, food, and drinks, so they wouldn't get bored.
Out of nowhere, they bumped into Charles.
"Mr. Lancelot, should we book the flight for tonight or tomorrow?" Mark asked, looking at his phone as they walked out after a meeting.
"Tomo..."
Charles hadn't finished speaking when he saw the four people entering and stopped dead.
"Tomorrow?" Mark asked again, noticing Charles had frozen.
Instinctively, he looked up and saw Charles staring ahead with a look he couldn't read.
What was ahead?
Mark followed his gaze and saw Daphne. His mind went blank for a sec.
She was with her fiancé.
When they saw Daphne, Daphne and Benjamin also saw them.
Charles's deep gaze locked onto Daphne's from a distance. He tried to look away, but once he saw her, he couldn't.
After a few months, she looked even better, her eyes more alive than when they split.
It was clear that Daphne was doing great now, and Benjamin treated her well.
His gaze slowly moved down to their intertwined fingers and noticed the engagement ring on Daphne's finger.
At that moment, Charles's heart was hit with a dense, aching pain. The psychological walls he had built up crumbled instantly.
But even so, he didn't show any of it on his face.
Mark, seeing the awkward pause, subtly nudged Charles.
The nudge snapped Charles back to reality.
Looking at the face that had haunted his dreams countless times, Charles moved his lips and finally said to Daphne, "Long time no see."
