Chapter 405 Why Should I Give You Hope

"Now?" Daphne asked, looking all surprised.

But then she just nodded. "Alright, cool."

They grabbed their bags and bounced out the door.

They didn't have much to pack. Their everyday clothes were already set up over there, so they just needed their laptops and some books and stuff they used a lot, just in case they came back for a bit.

Meanwhile, after leaving Daphne's place in a mess, Austin went to find Charles.

He had to break it to him that Daphne had a new dude, so he should just move on. Plus, he needed to let him know that Daphne's new guy was pretty impressive.

Charles wasn't a fan of Austin, mostly 'cause Daphne didn't like him.

"What are you doing here?" Charles frowned, clearly annoyed.

"I'm here to drop some important news," Austin said, making himself comfy on the couch even though he was still hurting a bit. "Something you definitely don't know."

Charles, with his icy vibe, handed him a glass of water and asked, "What is it?"

"It's about Daphne," Austin said, trying to build suspense.

Charles paused, and some water spilled from the glass, splashing on Austin.

Austin jumped up, yelling, "What the heck, man?"

Charles silently placed the glass in front of Austin, his heart stirred by Austin's words.

"What's your deal?" Austin asked, confused by Charles's cold attitude.

"Nothing," Charles replied casually. "Weren't you gonna tell me about Daphne? What's up with her?"

"Do you still like her?" Austin asked.

"Yeah," Charles nodded.

"Then this ain't gonna be good news for you," Austin warned before continuing, "She's got a boyfriend now."

Charles felt a mix of emotions but just said, "I know."

Not only did he know, but he had also seen them getting pretty cozy.

Austin seemed to have stumbled on something new and asked, "How do you know?"

"None of your business," Charles said, not planning to explain, and started heading back to his study.

"Wait," Austin called out.

Charles stopped, waiting for him to go on.

"How did you manage to live with Daphne when she still hated you?" Austin asked, curious. "With her personality, she shouldn't have put up with you."

Charles moved his lips, his eyes filled with complex emotions. If he could, he would rather not have had that time together. Even though it was happy, he had messed up her life too much and caused too many problems.

"Why aren't you saying anything?" Austin asked, feeling like he understood Charles less and less.

Charles changed the subject. "Did you meet her?"

"Not only did I meet her," Austin said angrily, "I also got into a fight with her boyfriend."

A fight? With Benjamin?

"That's bold," Charles said flatly.

"What do you mean by that?" Austin was still in pain. "You have no idea how sneaky that guy is. He acted all innocent at first, but when it came to fighting, he was ruthless."

He was so sneaky and outrageous!

"But," Austin said, thinking back to the earlier scene, "judging by how he acts with Daphne, it seems like he's totally dependent on her. Maybe he's just with her for her money. He just happens to be good-looking and skilled, which caught Daphne's eye."

"You're overthinking it," Charles said, finding Austin's imagination a bit too wild.

He remembered the interactions between Benjamin and Daphne and the things Benjamin had said to him when he had amnesia.

Given what he said, Benjamin couldn't possibly be with Daphne for material reasons.

Plus, he was the heir to the Reynolds Group.

"You didn't see the scene. If you had, you'd agree with me," Austin said, trying to convince Charles by describing what he had seen.

Charles thought about the info Mark had just brought him and asked, "Do you know who he is?"

"Who?" Austin asked, curious.

"Benjamin Reynolds," Charles replied.

Benjamin? Who was that?

"Is he famous?" Austin asked, puzzled, trying to recall who Benjamin was. "I don't recall him at all."

"What about the Reynolds Group?" Charles mentioned a well-known entity.

Austin nodded in understanding. He knew about the Reynolds Group. They had always been low-key in the industry, but their strength was undeniable.

"So you're saying Daphne's boyfriend is the heir to the Reynolds Group?" Austin thought for a moment and asked.

Charles nodded in agreement.

Austin was stunned. The Reynolds Group was wealthier than he was, and he had just been boasting in front of them. How embarrassing!

"How do you know all this?" Austin asked, eyeing Charles suspiciously. "Did someone tell you, or did you investigate him?"

"It's none of your business," Charles said, not intending to explain further. "If you have nothing else, you should leave. I have things to do and can't entertain you right now."

Austin gave him a disdainful look, knowing he was being kicked out.

"Do me a favor," Austin requested.

"Go ahead," Charles replied casually.

"I want to see Daisy. The security in that villa area is too good, and I can't get in," Austin explained.

Although he couldn't get in, Charles could. Charles had connections in Ivrea City, Gedser, and even abroad. Getting in would be a piece of cake for him.

"You can ask Daphne," Charles refused.

"It's because Daphne won't let me in that I'm asking you," Austin explained, taking the opportunity to badmouth her. "You have no idea how fierce she is. She even cursed at me."

Charles's cold gaze fell on him, full of pressure.

Austin asked, confused, "What's wrong?"

"You curse at her and still want me to help you?" Charles retorted. "Where did you get that nerve?"

"You two are divorced, and she has someone she likes," Austin said naturally, not seeing any issue. "You have no chance anyway, so helping a brother out won't hurt."

"No," Charles refused sternly.

"Charles!" Austin called out.

"Calling me won't help," Charles said apathetically.

"We've been friends for so long," Austin pleaded, looking pitiful.

"It's because of our long friendship that I can't help," Charles said seriously. "We've been through thick and thin together. If I have no hope, why should I give you hope?"

Since he had been hurt, he wanted Austin to be hurt too.
