Chapter 346 Meeting the Parents

Daphne didn't rat out Charles.

Given how Charles is now, exposing him would either make him act all pitiful and dramatic or push him to do something crazy.

Until Brian got back, she just had to keep things calm.

The next morning, Daphne had someone clean up the room.

Around noon, after ordering food for Charles, Daphne headed out.

Earlier, Lydia had texted her for help. Alexander suddenly wanted to meet Nick, and Lydia wasn't ready for it. She needed to give Nick a heads-up.

But Alexander was sneaky! He brought it up while Lydia was on the phone with Nick and made her put it on speaker.

Nick had no way to refuse once Alexander invited him.

Lydia was chatting with Nick when Alexander called her, "Lydia."

"My dad's calling," Lydia whispered. "I have to go."

"Talking to your boyfriend?" Alexander said while watering the plants. "Hand it over. I want to say a few words to him."

Alexander frowned. "Come here; why are you just standing there?"

Lydia asked, "What do you want to say to him?"

"You'll know when you hand it over," Alexander replied.

Lydia was almost in tears, thinking, 'Why isn't Daphne here!'

Under Alexander's pressure, Lydia handed over the phone, hinting to Nick on the other end.

She quickly locked the screen after putting it on speaker. If Alexander saw her note to Nick, he'd definitely question her.

"Nick, right?" Alexander asked.

"Hello," Nick replied.

"I've heard a lot about you from Lydia. How about we meet for a meal today?", Alexander didn't give Nick any time to prepare. "We can also talk about you and Lydia. By the way, are you in Gedser?"

"Yes, I am," Nick responded.

"I'll have Lydia send you the address once I book a place," Alexander said.

"Okay," Nick agreed.

Alexander chatted with Nick for a bit.

Nick felt immense pressure, knowing this was Lydia's dad.

Alexander immediately called to book a restaurant.

Lydia was almost breaking down. After the call, she quickly messaged Daphne, asking for help.

"Dad!" Lydia looked at Alexander, upset. "How could you do this? It's so rushed to meet someone like this!"

"We have to meet sooner or later," Alexander said seriously. "What's the difference between sooner and later?"

"Isn't it too rushed?" Lydia asked.

"It won't be," Alexander said on purpose and added, "Don't tell Daphne about this. I want to talk to your boyfriend alone."

"Oh," Lydia's eyes flickered.

By noon, at eleven-thirty, Alexander, Lydia, and Nick all arrived.

Alexander wore a very formal suit, exuding a steady aura. Just sitting there, Nick felt more pressure than from any teacher he'd ever met.

Lydia was a bit scared too.

Alexander was usually chill, but today he seemed like he was in a board meeting. His vibe was too intense.

"Sorry." Daphne walked in, scanning the room. "Traffic was bad, so I'm late."

Daphne's simple outfit immediately drew everyone's attention.

Alexander's serious vibe broke, his eyes filled with confusion. 'Why is Daphne here?' he thought.

"Daphne!" Lydia sighed in relief.

Nick's nervousness eased too. Since their last meeting, he kind of saw Daphne as an older sister. "Daphne."

"Yes." Daphne nodded. "Sorry to keep you waiting."

With Daphne there, the room's atmosphere changed. Lydia and Nick seemed to find support, their nervousness gone.

Even Nick, who was nervous last time he met Daphne, felt all his anxiety and pressure in front of Alexander disappear. He was completely at ease.

"Daphne, you..." Alexander started to ask why she was there, but after glancing at Lydia, he got it.

"It was a bit far, and traffic was bad, so I was delayed," Daphne said, knowing from Lydia that Alexander didn't want her there, but she didn't call him out. "Have you ordered?"

Alexander felt awkward. "Yes, we have."

He thought, 'What now? Will Daphne misunderstand?'

Alexander didn't want Daphne to come just to use his status to intimidate Nick. But now it seemed that plan was out the window.

During the meal, Alexander chatted with Nick off and on. Nick stayed composed, making Lydia feel completely at ease.

After the meal, Daphne paid the bill.

Watching her sign and pay, Alexander glared at Lydia.

Lydia stuck out her tongue, looking sly and obedient.

"Dad," Lydia asked clearly after Daphne finished signing, "What do you think of Nick?"

Lydia knew how to pick her moments, asking in front of Daphne and Nick.

Daphne also looked at Alexander instinctively.

"He's good." Alexander cleared his throat, summarizing everything in one sentence, planning to give Lydia a good talking-to at home.

"So you have no objections to our relationship?", Lydia's intentions were clear.

Alexander kept his composure. "When did I ever have objections?"

Lydia finally felt relieved and left the restaurant with Alexander and Daphne, looking very happy.

This scene was seen by Summer, who was standing at the corner, holding a phone.

It was Aubrey on the phone, speaking slowly, "Ms. Carter, I've said everything I needed to say. Cooperating with me is more beneficial than not. You're a smart person; you should know what's the best for you."
