Chapter 64 Charles' Crush

Daphne didn't argue with them any further and walked over to open Rex's car and sat inside.
As Charles watched the car drive away, the hand holding the car keys tightened, his knuckles turning white.

Just as everyone thought he was about to leave, Charles' gaze fell upon them, the air around them filled with intense pressure, that made them unable to even breathe.

"Mr. Lancelot, is there anything else..." someone hesitantly asked.

"Do you all like Daphne?" Charles' cool voice suddenly asked. Their faces filled with confusion.

Before they could react, Charles mercilessly said the next sentence, "You can give up from now on. She only likes good-looking men."

Not caring about their reactions, after Charles issued his warning, he left. It wasn't until his taillights disappeared from their sight that they finally reacted.

"Did Charles just say we're not good-looking?"

"How dare he! There are dozens of girls chasing after me, and I rely on my looks to make a living."

"Is it possible that they like your money, not your face?"

"Or maybe it's your sweet words."

"Charles was talking about all of us, not just me."

With that everyone fell silent. It was true that Charles was furious at the moment; he didn’t have to be so biting with his words.

The thought of Daphne rejecting him in front of so many people made him want to catch her and ask what was going on in her mind. But despite wanting to, he didn't follow. He knew that by the time he arrived, Rex would have already left, and Daphne would not let him in.

After what happened last time, she must have changed the door lock code. He had to admit. He understood why Daphne would change the code.

Charles was right, Daphne had decided, that she would never let Charles enter her house again, as she watched the buildings on the roadside recede. She asked Rex, "You and Charles don't get along, do you?"

"We don't," Rex didn't hide it from him. "If anything goes wrong, with the things I've said and done, he would have dealt with me a long time ago."

Daphne was slightly surprised. She had indeed not fully understood the relationship between the two brothers. Rex had always been teasing Charles, and Charles had also shown signs of wanting to teach his younger brother a lesson. This back-and-forth dynamic didn’t seem like a good relationship.

"Our way of getting along with each other is different from other brothers. I like teasing him and watching the show. Although he gets angry each time, he never really deals with me. It's all just talk," Rex rattled on to Daphne.

Daphne was somewhat surprised, "I didn't realize that."

"He indulges me because of something that happened when we were kids." Rex told the story of them as if it were a tale, "Charles used to be very quiet and didn't like to talk. If someone said ten sentences to him, he might only reply with one."

“Because of this, the kids in the neighborhood didn’t like him and decided to beat him up together.” Rex was still laughing as he recounted this, “That day, I happened to go find Charles and saw so many people beating him. I stepped in to help him.”

“And as a result, I got knocked out with just one hit. Charles was scared by that.” Rex smiled, “Since then, he has been protective of me.”

"Hmm," Daphne responded lightly. This reason was somewhat beyond her expectations.

Rex glanced at her and curled his lips, "Daphne."

Daphne asked, "Hmm?"

"Do you still like Charles now?"

“No, I don't."

"That's good, keep it that way." Rex's words always exceeded Daphne's expectations. "He has had too smooth of a life, hardly experiencing any failures from childhood to adulthood. It's just right for him to face some setbacks with you."

Daphne didn't respond, opening the window to catch some air. The car continued to drive for a while. When they weren’t far away from the residential area, she saw a figure wearing a white sweater at a bend.

Upon closer inspection, she realized it was Kayla. As soon as she saw her, Kayla also saw Daphne sitting in the car. Before Daphne could even wonder how Kayla ended up here, Kayla rushed towards the car like a crazy person, at an alarming speed!

‘Crash!’ Rex quickly stepped on the brakes, instantly dropping his nonchalant expression. But they were too close, and even though the brakes were applied, the car still hit Kayla head-on,

‘Bang!’ A dull sound rang out, and Kayla's body was knocked down on the spot. The car also came to a stop at that moment. Daphne and Rex opened their car doors at the same time, both feeling a bit nervous and worried.

"Are you insane?" Daphne examined Kayla's condition as soon as she saw that she was conscious. After a while, blood began to flow from Kayla's lower body. Seeing the location, Daphne immediately realized that Kayla had suffered a miscarriage from the impact. Quickly taking out her phone she dialed 911, and her heart felt heavy for the first time.

"I told you... to make Charles completely indifferent to you," Kayla said intermittently, her face pale. "After this, he will definitely hate you."

Rex froze. Charles?

"He can only be mine, and no one can take him away," Kayla weakly said before fainting.

Only then did Rex notice Kayla's face, and a name popped into his head: "Is this Kayla? Charles' crush?"

"Yes," Daphne replied, unable to express her current feelings.

She hated being framed and set up by someone else. But at this moment, all she could feel was how incredibly foolish Kayla was, losing her humanity for a man and not caring about her own life. She couldn't find any meaning or purpose in doing such things.

Fortunately, the ambulance arrived quickly. Rex and Daphne followed along, even though it was clear that Kayla was the one at fault in this accident. During the surgery, Rex and Daphne sat on seats in the corridor.

Rex thought about what happened earlier and asked, "What did she mean by those words she said to you?"

"Literal meaning," Daphne replied simply, understanding very well that another charge would soon be pinned on her. When Charles arrived, Kayla would definitely say that Daphne caused her to miscarry and may even accuse Daphne of trying to kill her.

Thinking about dealing with all of that made her feel a headache coming on. She was truly tired of handling these things, and too lazy to explain further, especially when the divorce proceedings hadn't been completed yet.

Rex noticed her change in mood and asked, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing," Daphne leaned against the wall. To avoid more trouble, she told him, "After Charles meets with Kayla, no matter what she says, don't interrupt or explain anything. Leave it all to me."

Knowing Charles' character, Rex assisting her would make him think she had even managed to win over Rex's heart.
