Chapter 429 Abandoning You

"I'll just use my eyes," Daphne shot back.

"To see how she slip away?" Benjamin asked.

Yep, they couldn't have a normal convo.

"Yeah." She started mocking him, just to be a pain. "Watch her slip away to someone else's crib."

Benjamin playfully pinched her waist, a hint of scolding in his voice. "Oh really? Whose place you planning to sneak off to?"

"Not telling you!" Daphne teased.

"Who do you think would dare take you?" Benjamin didn't need to guess; he knew she meant Emma and Zoey.

No one dared; in front of Benjamin, they were total wimps.

"With that attitude, I ain't going back to the Reynolds Group," Benjamin said, tightening his grip on her waist. "Better to stay by your side and keep an eye on you myself."

Daphne went quiet.

She blinked and said, "I was just kidding."

"But I took it seriously."

"Got it," Daphne replied.

Determined to be a rebel, Daphne said, "Then I'll make it happen. I'll go crash at Emma's tonight."

"So eager for some special training?" Benjamin's tone was gentle, but his words had a clear threat.

Even though she didn't want to admit it, she realized something troubling: she and Benjamin were a thing, but she was still kinda scared of him!

"Benjamin," Daphne called out seriously.

"You can't do this," Daphne lectured him with a stern face. "I'm your girlfriend. You can't just throw threats around."

"And if I do?" Benjamin challenged.

"I'll get mad," Daphne said.

But she didn't sound too sure.

Benjamin pinched her cheek, his tone playful. "What are you gonna do?"

"Dump you," Daphne said, really trying to be rebellious.

"Try it," Benjamin said, his eyes lazy but clearly threatening. "Let's see how."

Daphne thought to herself, feeling wronged, 'He always knows how to threaten me.'

"Figured out how to dump me yet?" Benjamin asked, looking at her leisurely.

Daphne had an idea and blurted out, "You'll find out soon enough."

She was determined to dump him once, just to see if he'd still be so tough.

"I'm going to sleep now. On Monday, have Jesse help you with the resignation stuff." Daphne got out of his embrace, no longer joking around. "Go back to the Reynolds Group like a good boy."

"Will you miss me?" Benjamin asked.

"No," Daphne said firmly.

"Heartless," Benjamin said, pinching her cheek again, full of affection.

Daphne didn't respond, and Benjamin didn't push it.

To make sure the proposal went smoothly, it was good to go back for a bit.

Moments later, Daphne returned to her room.

Benjamin was about to handle some work when Daphne's earlier words about prepping for pregnancy popped into his mind.

Proposing, getting engaged, getting married—the whole process could take less than half a year if done quickly.

Thinking about this, he decided to change his habits. Even though he didn't know when he could marry Daphne, he wanted to be ready for when she wanted kids, so he decided not to stay up late anymore.

With this in mind, he shut down his computer and went to sleep.

Just as he was about to crash, Chris's call came in. The moment he picked up, Chris's smug voice came through. "Heard from Sierra that Daphne's asking about your nickname?"

Benjamin didn't say a word, but his eyes got that dangerous glint.

"Should I spill the beans?" Chris laughed, feeling like he finally had the upper hand. "Your nickname's pretty sweet, after all."

"If you like it so much, you can have it," Benjamin replied coolly.

"Nah, it's all yours," Chris said, all excited.

Benjamin sneered, his eyes dark and menacing, clearly signaling trouble for Chris.

Clueless, Chris kept going, "How about you beg me? If you beg, I won't tell her."

"I heard you're with Sierra now," Benjamin suddenly asked.

"Of course!" Chris said, all proud.

"I've got videos of you flirting with chicks since forever," Benjamin lied smoothly. "Should I show them to her?"

Chris was momentarily thrown off. "When did I ever flirt with women?"

Sure, he’d been friendly to keep his true feelings hidden, but he never actually flirted.

"If I say you did, then you did." Benjamin's calm words were heavy with psychological pressure.

Chris suddenly got it. "You wanna fake it?"

"Real or fake, Sierra will believe it if I show her," Benjamin said, delivering the knockout punch.

Chris was fuming; Benjamin always knew how to hit where it hurt.

He quickly hit the call recording button before speaking again, "You're too confident. Sierra's smart. She'll know if it's fake."

"Recording?" Benjamin's lips barely moved as he spoke.

How did Benjamin know?

"If you wanna tell Daphne, go ahead. I don't care." Benjamin was unfazed; he'd tell her himself anyway. "But don't think you can threaten me with this. I won't hesitate to tell her about your past."

"What crap are you talking about?" Chris was on the verge of losing it. He knew Benjamin was bad, but this was next-level ruthless!

Benjamin continued, "Sierra's my friend. She deserves to know about your shady past."

"You really know how to talk crap," Chris fumed.

Benjamin didn't respond and hung up.

To make it convincing, he went all out, even sending Chris a message: [Since you wanna marry Sierra, show some sincerity. She deserves to know about the kid who died.]

Chris: [Get lost!]

Chris: [All I did was mention your nickname a couple of times. Do you have to go this far?]

Benjamin didn't reply and put his phone on silent to sleep.

Chris was so mad he couldn't sleep. Frustrated, he decided to stir things up. He found Sierra to get Daphne's Facebook and sent her a friend request from a low-key account.

The next day was Saturday, so both Daphne and Benjamin were chilling at home.

After breakfast, Daphne was lounging on the couch watching TV. When she checked her phone, she noticed a friend request.

Her Facebook was pretty private, so she figured it was someone she knew and accepted it.

Chris: [Are you Daphne?]

Daphne: [Yeah.]
