Chapter 593 Why Do You Want to Go
Evelyn and others just stood there, looking at each other, totally confused about how Jesse and Elara managed to get in.
"Can Elara get in here with a reservation now?" Evelyn asked her friends.
"Nope," the woman next to Evelyn replied, her eyes following Jesse and Elara as they walked away. "The next available reservation for Fresh Harvest Eatery is three years out. If she books now, she won't get in until then."
Evelyn was curious. "So how did they get in?"
"Maybe Elara's boyfriend is someone important?" Evelyn's hired boyfriend chimed in, thinking Jesse looked kinda familiar.
"Have you ever seen such a young, handsome, and gentle big shot?" Evelyn blurted out, doubting that Elara, who had been single for twenty-eight years, could land such a catch. "Even if there is, would he be into Elara?"
They all wanted to argue, but deep down, they knew she had a point. There were plenty of socialites like Elara, and these three women were among them.
"Why don't we just go ask?" Stella Hall suggested, eyeing the person standing at the door.
When they went over to ask, the person was polite but didn't spill a single detail about Jesse.
This left them all a bit frustrated.
"Ask Willie," another woman, Aria Clark, suggested, sharing some gossip she knew. "Didn't he just go on a blind date with Elara recently? His family and Elara's are both prominent; he should know."
Hearing this, Evelyn pulled out her phone and made a call.
Willie was at home getting scolded. Seeing the call, he pretended it was important. "A friend is calling; I need to take this."
With that, he slipped away with his phone.
After checking the caller ID, he started chatting.
"Do you know Elara has a boyfriend?" Evelyn asked slowly, emphasizing each word.
"Yeah, I know," Willie said, standing in his garden and glancing inside. "What's up?"
"Do you know Jesse?" Evelyn asked, looking at her friends.
Willie got more cautious. "Why are you asking?"
"We saw Elara's post yesterday and asked her to bring her boyfriend out to meet us," Evelyn exaggerated, clearly trying to stir the pot. "We met him, but her boyfriend doesn't seem to handle people and situations well."
Willie was puzzled. What did Elara's boyfriend's behavior have to do with him? He wasn't Jesse's friend.
"He arranged to meet us at the entrance of Fresh Harvest Eatery," Evelyn continued. "After meeting, he took Elara inside. If I remember correctly, Fresh Harvest Eatery requires a reservation. How did he get in directly?"
Willie wanted to say he didn't know. But remembering how Evelyn had tricked him before, he decided to stir things up. "Well, he's not one to mess with, that's for sure."
"What do you mean?" Stella joined in.
"Last time, some of my guys tried to mess with Elara, and Jesse single-handedly took them all down," Willie explained seriously, with no hint of joking. "I guess the owner of Fresh Harvest Eatery knows his reputation and doesn't want to mess with him."
Wasn't it said that Fresh Harvest Eatery has some serious backing? Would a place like that really be scared of one guy?
"If there's nothing else, I'm gonna hang up now," Willie said, eager to end the call. "Got stuff to do here."
Without waiting for a response, Willie hung up.
The group was skeptical of Willie's story, but they couldn't come up with a better explanation, so they had to go with it for now.
Meanwhile, Jesse and Elara were inside, enjoying their dinner.
"Think they'll try to dig up info on you?" Elara asked Jesse.
Jesse looked puzzled. "Why would they do that?"
"You got in here so easily. They'll want to know who you are," Elara said, knowing how nosy they could be.
Jesse shrugged. "Let them. I don't care."
Elara was loving the meal. She finally got why Fresh Harvest Eatery only had three tables a day. The food was amazing—delicious, unique, fresh, and looked like art. Even though she had to wait six months for a one-hour meal, it was totally worth it!
Around 8 PM, Jesse and Elara finished up and went to get their car keys from the valet. They saw the group still hanging around outside.
Jesse was surprised and muttered, "They've been waiting this whole time?"
"Want to chat somewhere else?" Evelyn walked over, her expression unchanged. "We can catch up."
"No time," Elara shot back.
"You wouldn't want me to spill your college stories to your boyfriend here, would you?" Evelyn said, trying to stir the pot. "I have a friend who went to the same school as you and found out some things."
Elara looked puzzled. "What things?"
"Are you really clueless or just pretending?" Evelyn said, thinking Elara was playing dumb. "I know all about your dealings with your schoolmates."
Elara was confused at first, then seemed to remember something, frowning slightly.
"Don't worry, we just want to catch up and get to know your boyfriend better," Evelyn said with a smile. "No other intentions."
Elara felt a mix of emotions. She had no regrets about her past and didn't see it as a weakness. But if Jesse found out, given how protective he was, he might feel guilty and heartbroken.
"What things?" Jesse asked, concerned.
"Nothing," Elara said, not wanting to elaborate. She asked him, "Do you want to go?"
She had decided that if Jesse wanted to go, she would go. If he didn't, she would refuse, no matter what Evelyn threatened.
Jesse looked at the group and said one word, "Yes."
This answer seemed to satisfy them.
After getting in the car, Elara hesitated and then asked, "Why do you want to go?"
"With their personalities, if we refuse this time, there will be a next time," Jesse said, wanting to nip it in the bud. "I don't want you to be threatened by them."
