Chapter 310 I Don't Like Being with You

Mark was blunt. "But you did eat." And he ate a lot.

Charles's eyes narrowed. His voice was slow but menacing. "I said I didn't eat, so I didn't."

'What a liar!' Mark thought. Charles would do anything to impress Daphne.

Charles reminded him again, worried Mark might slip up, "Remember what I told you today, especially about me being five years old."

"Got it," Mark replied flatly.

Reluctantly, Mark called Daphne.

Daphne and Benjamin were nearly home when Daphne received the call and arranged for the driver to fetch him, but Charles objected.

Thinking Charles was still a kid, Daphne didn't argue much.

She planned to drive back to get him, but Benjamin drove over directly. By the time they arrived, it was around ten o'clock.

Mark waited with Charles at the door. When he saw Daphne, he immediately greeted her, "Ms. Murphy."

"Thanks for your help today," Daphne said politely.

Mark kept smiling but thought, 'It was a hassle!'

If he could, he'd never want to take care of amnesiac Charles again; he was too much trouble.

"No problem, it's my job," Mark smiled slightly and added as Charles had instructed, "By the way, Ms. Murphy, Mr. Lancelot hasn't eaten much since noon. He said he had no appetite."

"Two meals missed?" Daphne frowned.

"He took a bite at lunch, but just a little," Mark said, feeling a bit guilty but continuing the act, "I made his favorite for dinner, but he didn't touch it."

"Daphne." Charles tugged at Daphne's clothes, looking pitiful.

Mark's lips twitched, thinking Charles's acting was top-notch. Switching between adult and child was impressive.

"Why didn't you eat?" Daphne asked Charles, her tone steady.

"I didn't want to eat because you weren't here," Charles said, head down and voice muffled.

"What do you want to eat?" Daphne asked, not wanting him to go hungry. If something happened, she couldn't explain it. "I'll take you to eat."

"Anything," Charles replied.

All Charles wanted was to be with Daphne; nothing else mattered.

"Let's go back first," Benjamin said as he got out of the car, glancing at Charles, "I'll cook for him."

Daphne was about to refuse, thinking it was her job to take care of Charles and not wanting to trouble Benjamin.

However, Benjamin didn't give her a chance to refuse and got her and Charles into the car.

Then, the three of them left the neighborhood.

Sitting alone in the back seat, Charles looked at Benjamin and Daphne in the front, his eyes filled with unhappiness. At a turn, he deliberately moved to grab Daphne.

But due to the car's inertia, he fell to the side and hit the car door.

"Ouch!" Charles cried out in pain.

Daphne turned to look at him. "What happened?"

"I accidentally fell," Charles said, rubbing his head and left arm, "It hurts."

Daphne comforted Charles. "I'll come by to see how you're doing when we return. Just hang in there; we'll be back shortly."

Charles called her, "Daphne."

Daphne asked, "What's wrong?"

"Can you ask Benjamin to drive slower?" Charles said, pretending to be scared, "I'm afraid."

Benjamin glanced in the rearview mirror, his eyes darkening.

Daphne stayed calm. "The speed isn't fast. Just sit tight and don't move, and you'll be fine."

"Oh," Charles said, lowering his head, looking disappointed.

He looked like he was wronged and couldn't express it.

Daphne wanted to comfort him but didn't know what to say. Benjamin's speed wasn't really fast.

"If you're scared, buckle up and don't move," Benjamin said suddenly, his tone different from when he spoke to Daphne, "Even at a slow speed, you could still fall."

Daphne paused, thinking, 'Is Benjamin angry?'

"Sorry," Charles said in a low voice.

"If you're sorry, then buckle up," Benjamin said bluntly, "Don't expect someone to come and hold you. Your mind is five years old, not your body."

"Benjamin," Daphne said, a bit confused.

Benjamin's behavior appeared unusual. She had never seen him like this before.

"When we get back, you go wash up and change," Benjamin said without much explanation, "I'll take him back and cook for him. You can come over after you're done."

"No," Charles refused, "I want to be with Daphne."

No one responded to Charles's words.

Benjamin drove seriously, and Daphne was thinking about Benjamin's unusual behavior.

Their indifference made Charles's obsession and possessiveness towards Daphne grow.

He had only one thought now, 'Daphne is mine!'

Around eleven o'clock, they finally got home.

Daphne thought about comforting Charles first or staying with him until he finished eating, but Benjamin directly told her to go back and not worry.

Knowing what kind of person Benjamin was, Daphne told Charles to eat well and then left.

"Daphne, I don't want to eat," Charles said, pulling her and looking at Benjamin with a pitiful expression, "Don't leave me alone with him. I'm scared."

Daphne felt that Charles was acting strange tonight but didn't think much of it, assuming he was just not used to being left with Mark all day.

Daphne said, "Don't be afraid. Benjamin is very nice."

"No." Charles shook his head quickly, full of rejection and resistance.

"I'll ensure he eats. You go ahead," Benjamin said to Daphne, whispering in her ear, "If you spoil him now, he'll take advantage later."

"His mind is only five years old," Daphne emphasized.

Benjamin asked, "Do you want him to depend on you?"

Daphne blurted out without thinking, "No."

Benjamin glanced at the pitiful Charles and lowered his voice. "If you don't want him to cling to you, listen to me. Don't you trust me?"

She did trust him, but she was worried Charles might cry out of frustration.

Daphne looked at Benjamin, then at the pitiful Charles, and finally said to Charles, "Go eat with Benjamin first. I'll come find you after I wash up."

Charles wanted to say more, but Benjamin had already taken him inside.

As the door closed and Daphne disappeared from sight, Charles looked at Benjamin with displeasure. "Let me out. I don't like being with you."
