Chapter 383 Daphne, You Almost Tricked Me.

Mira was baffled, trying to figure out what went wrong. After thinking it over, she concluded that Daphne must be with Benjamin and had grabbed the phone to block and delete Mira, worried Mira might spill her secrets.

Mira thought about messaging on Facebook but feared Daphne would cause more trouble, so she held off.

Benjamin didn't care about the issue anymore and wasn't worried Mira would say anything off to Henry and Anouk.

Henry and Anouk weren't easily swayed by others. They made their own judgments about people and situations.

From how things went after bringing Daphne back last time, Henry and Anouk seemed to like her a lot.

After freshening up, Benjamin lay in bed, thinking about Daphne, and texted her: [Good night.]

Daphne didn't see the message. She wasn't into her phone much; once she put it down, she went to sleep. Plus, with Do Not Disturb on, all notifications were silenced.

So, when she saw the message the next morning, she replied: [Good morning.]

Just after replying, the doorbell rang. Benjamin was outside in his loungewear, speaking gently. "Wouldn't it be better to say that in person?"

"I didn't see the message last night," Daphne explained.

Benjamin leaned in a bit. "Kiss me, and I'll forgive you."

Daphne quickly dodged. "I'm going to wash up."

"Come over for breakfast after you wash up," Benjamin said, having promised to handle all three meals. "I've saved some for Lydia and Gavin, no need to wake them."

Daphne nodded. Lydia and Gavin liked to sleep in.

As expected, Lydia and Gavin didn't get up until almost ten, slowly dragging themselves out of bed.

Daphne had left a message for Lydia, so once she woke up, she headed straight to Benjamin's place.

After Lydia and Gavin finished breakfast, Gavin brought up business.

They hadn't settled things last night, so they had to finish today. He didn't want to work hard; he wanted to have fun.

"When are you going back to take over as CEO of the Murphy Group?" Gavin asked bluntly, sitting on the couch.

Everyone was stunned, not expecting Gavin to drop this out of nowhere.

"Uncle and Grandpa have no objections, and I've tested the shareholders; they agree too," Gavin said eagerly. "As long as you agree, you can take over anytime."

After a moment of silence, Daphne offered a condition. "I'll give you some of my shares."

Gavin refused, "No."

Daphne said, "Half of them."

Gavin replied, "Not interested."

Daphne said, "All of them."

"Even if you and Lydia gave me all your shares, I wouldn't do it," Gavin said seriously, with a hint of pride, "I want freedom, not money."

"Being a boss has perks, even if it's a bit tiring," Daphne tried to convince him.

Gavin thought, 'Really? I haven't noticed.'

"If you're just a rich heir who only wants to have fun, you might not find true love," Daphne said earnestly.

Gavin instinctively denied it. "Impossible, with my looks, I can find someone."

Daphne asked, "Are you as handsome as Benjamin?"

"No," Lydia answered for him.

Daphne continued, "People might date you for your looks and money, but that won't last. If someone hotter and richer comes along, you're toast."

Gavin thought for a moment. It made some sense, but something felt off.

"Being the CEO of the Murphy Group isn't just a title," Daphne pressed on. "Which is more attractive, a CEO of a listed company or a wealthy heir who does nothing?"

"Obviously, the CEO," Gavin blurted out.

A wealthy heir who did nothing had an uncertain future. If the family fell, what would he do?

Most people in this circle were driven by interests. If something went wrong, they would distance themselves immediately. At least a CEO had skills even if the company went bankrupt.

"Do you still want to resign from the Murphy Group's CEO position?" Daphne asked again.

"No..." Gavin started to say, then realized something was wrong. "Wait a minute."

Daphne paused. Did he catch on so quickly?

"Daphne, you almost tricked me," Gavin said, catching on.

If it weren't Daphne, he would have calmly refuted the first statement. He didn't expect Daphne to be so persuasive.

Daphne remained calm. "What?"

"Stop pretending. What you said doesn't hold up," Gavin argued, "Even if I resign and become a wealthy heir, what you said won't happen. I'm not just a freeloader; I have skills."

As for true love, he wasn't looking for a relationship.

"Next Monday, the 7th, remember to report to the Murphy Group." Gavin was determined this time. "If you don't come, I'll be mad."

"If Benjamin is willing to help you manage, that's fine too." Gavin's gaze fell on the always calm and laid-back Benjamin.

Benjamin looked over and said slowly, "I have a question for you, Gavin."

"Go ahead." Gavin was increasingly satisfied with him.

"Do you think a promise is important?" Benjamin set a trap step by step.

Gavin thought, 'A promise? What's he getting at?'

"Of course, it's important." Gavin, unable to figure it out, assumed it was between Benjamin and Daphne. "As a man, you should keep your promises. If you can't, don't make them."

Whether it was about Benjamin and Daphne or not, this statement was safe. After all, he was talking about men, not everyone.

"What if you promised but didn't keep it?" Benjamin asked again.

Gavin immediately looked at Daphne, wondering if the two were having a conflict. Otherwise, why ask such a question now?

Daphne saw he wasn't answering and said, "Benjamin's the one asking. Why are you looking at me?"

Gavin thought, 'They must be having a conflict!'
