Chapter 335 Daphne Made the News

"Are you just gonna let them say whatever online?" Kevin was fuming for Daphne.

"The news is already down. Even if they keep talking, it won't go anywhere," Daphne said calmly, "Soon, something new will pop up, and today's chatter will be forgotten."

Kevin wanted to argue more, but Daphne, thinking about Alexander, ended the call, telling him not to stress.

Given Alexander's focus on Instagram, he probably wouldn't catch this news, but someone might tell him. Like Daphne's cousin, Gavin.

"Mr. Murphy." Gwendolyn Lawson handed a tablet to Gavin. "Today's news. Want to see?"

"What's so interesting about the news?" Gavin was swamped with work.

Finishing quickly meant he could finally take a vacation! During the break, he needed to talk to Daphne about taking over the Murphy Group next year. He deserved some freedom after all this time.

Gwendolyn, knowing Daphne's status, kept holding the tablet. "It's about Ms. Murphy."

Gavin paused, took the tablet, and frowned at the $300 million divorce headline, feeling puzzled.

"What do they mean 'for the money'?" Gavin exploded after reading a bit, his anger flaring.

"They don't know it's Ms. Murphy," Gwendolyn explained.

"Not knowing gives them the right to talk crap?" Gavin was livid. "What if it were just an ordinary girl? Is it fair to judge without knowing the truth?"

Gwendolyn stayed quiet; Gavin was the last person to provoke when angry.

"Call a press conference now." Gavin decided. "Announce Daphne's identity."

Gavin was fuming. 'How can they make wild guesses about Daphne? Do they think she has no one backing her?'

"Mr. Murphy," Gwendolyn said.

"Hurry up," Gavin insisted.

"Shouldn't you discuss this with Ms. Murphy first?" Gwendolyn was rational. "She’s always been reluctant to reveal her identity. Wouldn't it be wrong to announce it without her okay?"

Gavin's anger cooled. He frowned, realizing it was indeed inappropriate.

Daphne didn't like going public, but he couldn't just let people gossip about her.

"Got any ideas?" he asked.

Gwendolyn didn't dare suggest anything. "No."

"But the news is already down," Gwendolyn pointed out. "Ms. Murphy probably handled it."

Gavin refreshed the page and saw it was indeed gone.

He thought for a moment and decided. "You can go home now. I'll find Daphne. No need to come to the office for the next few days; just enjoy Christmas."

The other Murphy Group employees were already on vacation. But as the CEO's secretary, Gwendolyn had to work as long as Gavin had tasks.

Finally, it was vacation time.

"Okay," Gwendolyn quickly agreed.

Gavin grabbed his coat and left the office. In the underground parking lot, he saw a message from Daphne, telling him not to mention the news to Alexander.

Daphne had sent the same message to Lydia when she asked.

Letting the matter fade away was the best move.

But Daphne hadn't considered Charles in her plans!

Rewind to when the news first broke.

The Lancelot Mansion.

Charles had just finished chatting with Marcus and was taking a walk in the yard when his phone dinged with a message.

Brian sent a picture.

Brian: [Daphne is in the news.]

Charles opened the picture and frowned at the content.

He read through the comments, his face growing darker with each word.

After figuring out how this worked, he registered an account named "Charles of the Lancelot Group."

He didn't use "Daphne's Charles" to avoid making Daphne uncomfortable. Once set up, he recorded a video.

He called Mark and then posted the video. In just half an hour, it topped the trending news list.

Daphne had just returned home when Lydia told her about it.

"Daphne!" Lydia waved her over, holding her phone. "Come here; something's happened."

Daphne, in her slippers, walked over. "What is it?"

Wasn't the news issue resolved?

Daphne instinctively looked at Gavin and Alexander, wondering what could be the problem.

"Charles," Lydia said.

Daphne was even more puzzled.

Before she could ask, Lydia handed her the phone. "Charles posted a video online, and it's now trending."

Daphne quickly took the phone.

She didn't care about the previous discussions; she was worried Charles might reveal their private matters.

She didn't want her personal life to become gossip or for the Murphy and Lancelot Groups to be known for a failed marriage.

But after watching the video, she felt relieved.

"Hello, everyone, I'm Charles," he began simply, his handsome face on the screen. "Daphne is my ex-wife. There's a misunderstanding; her family background is not worse than mine. Earning $300 million is easy for her."

He mostly praised her, admitting the failed marriage was his fault, and asked people no to discuss it further.

The video was five minutes and twenty seconds long.

After watching it, Daphne felt a weight lift off her chest.

The video answered some public questions without revealing her identity.

"Daphne," Lydia, who had also watched the video, was puzzled. "Why don't you take advantage of this and tell your side, let the netizens criticize him?"
