Chapter 333 Made the News
That long post didn't mention the Lancelot Group or Charles, but anyone sharp could tell it was about him.
There were pictures too, not of the real Charles, but the animated version's clothes and details matched his exactly.
No wonder Daphne's intercept didn't work.
These folks found a new way to spread the word.
"Should we do something?" Daisy asked, noticing Daphne's serious look.
"Not for now," Daphne said, "It won't cause much of a stir or make the news."
"Really?" Daisy asked.
Daphne nodded. "Yeah."
After some special handling and notifying the right people, no one dared to report on Charles without the Lancelot Group's okay, especially on sensitive stuff.
Comments quickly popped up under that Instagram post.
[Who is this?]
[Feels like they said everything but nothing at the same time.]
[Can someone tell me who they're talking about?]
[Don't you know? The business legend, who else?]
[I was wondering why I couldn't type his name or initials. Turns out they intervened!]
[Is this for real?]
[My friend works at that company, but in the Gedser branch. He said Mr. Lancelot came with his assistant before, but lately, the assistant's been handling everything. Mr. Lancelot seems to have disappeared.]
[So, this might actually be true.]
Seeing the growing number of comments, Daphne looked more serious.
Daisy, who knew the entertainment industry, thought for a moment. "Daphne."
"Yeah?" Daphne replied.
"You should have the Lancelot Group do some PR," Daisy suggested, eyeing the increasing comments. "Even if the news can't mention the Lancelot Group or Charles directly, it can use other keywords. Once it gets out, it'll spark all kinds of discussions. Even if the news is suppressed later, curious netizens will still talk about it."
Daphne, not very familiar with this, took Daisy's advice. "Okay."
With mixed feelings, she called Mark.
Mark was better at handling these things than Charles.
"Ms. Murphy?" Mark answered quickly.
"I just sent a screenshot to your phone. Check it out," Daphne said seriously. "If anything about Charles makes the news, have the Lancelot Group's PR handle it."
"Got it," Mark replied calmly.
Daphne acknowledged with a hum.
After the call, Mark checked it out.
Compared to Daphne's worry, Mark was much more composed. Charles was fine now; any false rumors could be easily dealt with.
After looking around, Mark noticed Charles's name hadn't appeared and immediately thought of Daphne.
Mark: [Ms. Murphy, did you set up an intercept for Mr. Lancelot's name online?]
Daphne: [Yes.]
Mark: [Let it go; it'll be easier to take legal action that way.]
After borrowing a computer from Daisy, Daphne lifted the intercept. Trusting Mark's abilities, she didn't worry about it anymore.
About half an hour later, it hit the news, and the discussions were all over the place.
[No way this is true. If something really happened, they'd block the news, not let it out.]
[Spreading rumors about Mr. Lancelot? Get ready for a lawsuit.];
[Is he really dead?]
[Charles doesn't have an heir, right? If he's really dead, what happens to his money and shares? I can reluctantly inherit them.]
The news got taken down quickly, and the Lancelot Group's official account issued a statement right away.
Most people thought it was fake, but some kept digging.
They started investigating if the post was legit and found other stuff in the process.
[Whether Charles is in trouble or not, I found that he's already married.]
[Really?]
[Who's the spouse?]
[I heard he's married too, but it's a secret marriage, and his wife hasn't been revealed.]
[He probably wants to protect her and doesn't want her to be targeted.]
[Who said it's for protection?]
[It's probably a family alliance. In wealthy families, this happens a lot, right? They marry for alliances and live their own lives, not announcing it to avoid trouble.]
As the discussions grew, more topics emerged.
Soon, Daphne was identified.
Even Daphne was surprised at this.
Although some people knew about her marriage to Charles, it wasn't widely known.
In just half a day, they found out she was Charles's spouse. Their investigative skills were impressive.
"Are you okay?" Daisy asked worriedly after lunch, seeing the discussions online. "Netizens are really good at digging up information these days, even small things."
"I'm fine." Daphne wasn't too concerned. "They can't find my personal information."
Indeed, as Daphne said.
After various investigations, another heated discussion arose.
[Strange, apart from knowing her name and gender, we can't find anything else about Daphne.]
[She's probably just an ordinary person.]
[Is it possible she schemed to sleep with Mr. Lancelot, and he thought it was a drunken mistake, so he married her out of responsibility, leading to a secret marriage?]
[No way, even in the entertainment industry, they wouldn't take responsibility for that. In wealthy families, it's even harsher; they'd just pay her off.]
[I just found out something shocking.]
[What?]
[Mr. Lancelot has already divorced with Daphne, and she got a few billion dollars in the settlement.]
After these discussions, another piece of news emerged.
When Daisy saw it, she noticed Daphne was also looking at it. She instinctively turned off Daphne's phone and looked at her with concern. "Stop looking; it'll just make you angrier."
"Hmm?" Daphne looked puzzled.
"Aren't you angry?" Daisy asked.
"Nothing to be angry about," Daphne said indifferently. "It's not true anyway."
Daisy gave her a strange look, her expression complex. "Are you really not angry, or are you pretending to be strong so I won't worry?"
Those harsh words made Daisy angry just reading them.
Daphne was the one directly involved.
"Really, I'm fine," Daphne said, holding her phone longer than usual.
